Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.6

GPA, above 35 of the 48 other CRM tools we grade

HoneyBook is a client management platform for independent businesses such as photographers, event planners, consultants and designers. It combines a project pipeline with proposals, contracts, invoices, online payments, scheduling and automations, so a lead can be booked and billed in one place. Plans are priced per account rather than per user, and the service is available only to businesses in the U.S., Canada, the UK and Australia.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about HoneyBook, taken from its own pages and our grades.

Outside those four countries, look elsewhere.

The report card

Best for one-person businesses that book and bill clients

HoneyBook is client management for photographers, planners and other independents: one file lets a client pick a package, sign and pay. It only takes businesses in the US, Canada, the UK and Australia, there's no free plan, automations start on Essentials at $49 a month, and it processes your payments itself at 2.9% + 25¢ a card payment. Outside those four countries, look elsewhere.

ToolGPA report cardHoneyBookGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyCStarter is $29 a month on yearly billing for the whole account, not per person, mid-pack against the CRMs here. Automations wait for Essentials at $49, and card fees of about 2.9% come on top of everything.
Free plan and trialCThere's no free plan. You get 30 days to try it with no card, and a 60-day money-back guarantee once you've paid. After that the bill starts at $29 a month yearly or $36 monthly.
FeaturesBProposals, contracts clients sign on screen, invoices, payment plans, a scheduler, lead forms, a client portal and automations. That covers booking and billing clients, and payments run through HoneyBook itself. Starter goes without the automations and without team members.
Ease of useA4.8 from about 16,300 App Store ratings. There are hundreds of templates to start from, and once you've subscribed their team turns your old contracts and price lists into templates at no charge.
Platforms and integrationsCWeb, iPhone and Android, but you can only sign up if your business is in one of four countries. The phone app can't issue refunds or change settings, and the integrations page doesn't mention an API.
Grade point averageGood, out of 4.02.6

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who HoneyBook is for

  • Fits if every job means a proposal, a contract and an invoice, like weddings, shoots and events
  • Works for small studios that want one account price, as Premium is $109 for the whole team

Who it is not for

  • Skip it if your business is outside the US, Canada, the UK and Australia, because you can't sign up
  • Pricey if you're solo and want automations: Starter has none, so it's Essentials at $49 a month yearly
  • Not for you if you'd rather keep your own card processor, as HoneyBook takes 2.9% + 25¢ a card payment itself
  • Tight if you have a team: Starter allows none and Essentials stops at 2, so more means Premium at $109
  • Watch out: the phone app can't issue refunds, change settings or reach lead forms, and no API is mentioned

Good to know

Good for

  • Photographers, event planners and other independents who book clients
  • Solo businesses that want contracts, invoices and payments in one tool
  • Small studios that prefer a flat account price to per-user pricing

Worth knowing

  • Available only to businesses in the U.S., Canada, the UK and Australia.
  • Starter has no automations or team members, includes 1 scheduler session, and integrates only with email, calendar and Pic-Time.
  • Team members are capped at 2 on Essentials; unlimited members, multiple companies and priority support need Premium at $109 a month.
  • Payment processing costs extra: the pricing page quotes card fees from 2.7% + 10 cents in one place and 2.9% + 25 cents in another, plus 1.5% for ACH.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace HoneyBook you would be making connections to other products, each kept working as those products change. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 2.6 is higher than 35 of the 48 other CRM tools we grade. It costs $348 a year.

What you could make

  • Sales pipeline, invoicing, forms and templates: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • Connections to other products, each kept working as those products change.
  • Booking pages that read and write other people's calendars and send the emails.
  • A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
  • AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. HoneyBook’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
