Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.2
GPA, above 4 of the 51 other docs and wiki tools we grade
Hudu is an IT documentation platform for managed service providers and internal IT teams. It keeps knowledge base articles, procedures, passwords, assets and network details such as IP addresses and racks in one structured system, with a portal for giving clients a limited view. It is sold as a single per-user plan that can be cloud-hosted or self-hosted at the same price.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Hudu, taken from its own pages and our grades.
Taking the cloud version at least saves you running a server.
- 1
Best for IT teams documenting clients, assets and passwords
Anyone wanting a general company wiki should look elsewhere.
- 2
Paid plans start at $27 a month for each person
As its pricing page puts it: $27 per user / month, billed annually ($30 billed monthly).
- 3
You can try it first
14-day free trial, no credit card required
- 4
It runs on 3 platforms
Web, iOS and Android, with a browser extension too.
- 5
Structured documentation
Knowledge base articles, checklists and SOPs follow consistent layouts and templates, with version histories, flags and reviews, and links between related records.
- 6
Password vault
Company and personal credential vaults store passwords and one-time passcodes, with role-based access, group permissions and a full audit history.
- 7
Assets, IP addresses and racks
Devices, vendors and systems are tracked through structured forms, alongside IP address management, rack layouts and a photo gallery.
- 8
A 2.2 GPA, above 4 of 51
That is against the other docs and wiki tools we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.
- 9
Keep it
To replace Hudu you would be making a password vault, the last thing anyone should make for themselves. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card
Best for IT teams documenting clients, assets and passwords
Hudu is documentation for IT teams: how-to articles, passwords, assets, IP addresses and rack layouts in one structured system, with a client portal, on one plan for cloud or self-hosted. There's no free plan, every user who logs in costs $27 a month billed annually, network discovery is a separate add-on from $44 a month, and the mobile app lacks some web features. Anyone wanting a general company wiki should look elsewhere.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | $27 a user a month billed annually, or $30 monthly, sits in the broad middle band for this category, above the $15 midpoint but nowhere near the dear end. One plan carries the lot, with unlimited free portal users and no minimums. Network discovery is extra, from $44 a month. |
| Free plan and trial | C | No free plan. You get a 14-day trial with no card asked for, and after that every user who can log in is paid for. Only read-only portal users are free. |
| Features | C | Articles and SOPs on templates with version histories, a password vault with audit history, asset and IP address tracking, rack layouts, expiry alerts for domains and SSL, and a client portal. It does IT documentation fully, and that's a narrower job than a company wiki; network discovery is a separate add-on. |
| Ease of use | C | No app rating on record, and this is a system to set up rather than a notes app: structured asset forms, templates, client companies and PSA or RMM integrations to wire first. Taking the cloud version at least saves you running a server. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web, iPhone, Android and a browser extension, with an API and integrations for ConnectWise PSA, Autotask, Datto RMM, Microsoft 365 and Slack. No desktop app, and the mobile app doesn't cover every web feature yet, going by Hudu's release notes. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Hudu is for
- Fits if you're a managed service provider documenting many client environments
- Works for IT teams that need credentials, assets and how-tos in one system, hosted or on their own servers
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you want a general company wiki, because everything here centers on assets, credentials and networks
- Pricey if you only need articles, at $27 a user a month billed annually
- Not for you if you need a free plan, as there's only a 14-day trial
- Watch out: automatic network discovery is the Radar add-on, from $44 a month billed annually for 5 collectors
- Watch out: the mobile app doesn't cover every web feature yet, and there's no desktop app
Good to know
Good for
- Managed service providers documenting many client environments
- Internal IT teams keeping credentials, assets and how-tos in one system
- Organizations that need to host their IT documentation on their own servers
Worth knowing
- There is no free plan: after the 14-day trial each user who can log in costs $27 a month billed annually, or $30 monthly.
- It is built for IT documentation, so the feature set centers on assets, credentials, networks and client companies.
- Automatic network discovery is the separate Hudu Radar add-on, from $44 a month billed annually for 5 collectors.
- The mobile app does not cover every web feature; Hudu's release notes say the rest are still being added.

Part 04 · Standing
Where it stands
Its grades against its category, and whether to keep it or make your own
4/51
Other docs and wiki tools it is graded above
Hudu's GPA of 2.2 is higher than 4 of the 51 other docs and wiki tools we grade, and level with 8.
It stands best on platforms and integrations (B, above 10 of 51) and worst on features (C, above 1).
Its paid plans start at $27 a month for each person, against a middle price of $16.50 for the category: 27 of the 41 others that charge start lower.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace Hudu you would be making a password vault, the last thing anyone should make for themselves. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 39 of the 51 other docs and wiki tools grade higher. It costs $324 a year.
What you could make
- Wiki and templates: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- A password vault, the last thing anyone should make for themselves.
- A search engine with an AI model behind it.
- A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
- It is priced for each person, which means accounts and billing for a team.
- It plugs into other products, ConnectWise PSA, Autotask and Datto RMM among them, and has an API.
- What a company asks for before it lets staff use something: roles and permissions.
What this rests on. Hudu’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
