Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

3.4

GPA, above 47 of the 48 other AI meeting note takers we grade

HyNote turns meetings, recordings and documents into transcripts, summaries and action items. It records Zoom, Google Meet, Teams and Webex calls without a meeting bot, and also accepts uploaded audio, PDFs, images, YouTube links, web pages and phone calls. Notes can be organized with tags and folders, questioned in chat, reshaped with templates and sent to tools such as Google Docs and Notion.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about HyNote, taken from its own pages and our grades.

No bot to invite to a call, and notes sync across the web, phone and tablet apps on their own.

The report card

Best for notes from meetings, PDFs and videos alike

HyNote takes notes from Zoom, Meet, Teams and Webex calls with no bot, and from recordings, PDFs, images, YouTube links and phone calls, turning them into summaries, action items and flashcards. Pro is $6.66 a month on the yearly plan but has no real-time transcription, which needs Plus at $10.83. A session stops at 120 minutes on every plan, and the iPhone app charges more than the site.

SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyCPro is $6.66 a month billed yearly, but it doesn't do real-time transcription: that, and the high-accuracy speaker names, start on Plus at $10.83, which is the middle of this category. CRM links need Unlimited at $15.83, and the iPhone app charges more than the site.
Free plan and trialBA free plan with recording and transcription up to 120 minutes a session, templates, file uploads, calendar hook-up and sync across web, phone and tablet. On a recent Mac the app also transcribes on the device at no charge. The monthly minute allowance isn't published.
FeaturesAIt takes in more kinds of source than the others here: Zoom, Meet, Teams and Webex with no bot, plus audio files, video, PDFs, images read by OCR, YouTube links, saved web pages and phone calls. Out come summaries, action items, 30-plus templates, chat across all notes, and quizzes and flashcards.
Ease of useA4.8 from about 7,600 App Store ratings. No bot to invite to a call, and notes sync across the web, phone and tablet apps on their own.
Platforms and integrationsAWeb, Mac, iPhone, Android and a browser extension, with notes out to Google Docs and Notion, action items to Todoist, Asana or Slack, plus Zapier and a ChatGPT connector. No Windows app, so there it's the web version.
Grade point averageVery good, out of 4.03.4

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who HyNote is for

  • Fits if you summarize lectures, PDFs and videos as well as meetings
  • Works for sending action items from a meeting to Todoist, Asana or Slack

Who it is not for

  • Tight if your meetings run past two hours, since a session stops at 120 minutes even on Unlimited
  • Not for you if you need live transcription in lots of languages on the web, where it covers six
  • Pricey if you subscribe inside the iPhone app, where Pro is $89.99 a year against $79.99 on the site
  • Tight if you stay on Pro, which caps transcription at 1,200 minutes a month and leaves Docs and Notion transfer to Plus
  • Watch out: CRM links need Unlimited at $15.83 a month yearly, there's no Windows app, and the free plan's monthly minutes aren't published

Good to know

Good for

  • People who summarize lectures, PDFs and videos as well as meetings
  • Mac users who want free on-device transcription with no meeting bot
  • Sending action items from meetings to Todoist, Asana or Slack

Worth knowing

  • Pro and Plus are capped at 1,200 transcription minutes a month, and a recording session tops out at 120 minutes, including on Unlimited.
  • Transferring notes to Google Docs and Notion needs Plus or above, and CRM integration needs Unlimited or Teams.
  • Live transcription on the web supports six languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese. The mobile app covers more.
  • The US App Store lists higher in-app prices for some plans than the website, such as $89.99 a year for Pro.

47/48

Other AI meeting note takers it is graded above

HyNote's GPA of 3.4 is higher than 47 of the 48 other AI meeting note takers we grade, and level with 1.

It stands best on features (A, above 41 of 48) and worst on value for money (C, above 13).

Its paid plans start at $6.66 a month, against a middle price of $10 for the category: 1 of the 47 others that charge start lower.

On features, ease of use and platforms it scores 4.0 out of 4, and no tool on the category's chart scores higher without costing more.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace HyNote you would be making a bot that joins your calls and turns the talk into notes. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 3.4 is higher than 47 of the 48 other AI meeting note takers we grade. It costs $79.92 a year.

What you could make

  • Templates and web clipper: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • A bot that joins your calls and turns the talk into notes.
  • An AI model, which you can rent by the request but not make.
  • Speech turned into text you can trust.
  • Apps for macOS, iOS and Android that stay in step with each other.
  • It plugs into other products, Google Docs, Notion and Google Calendar among them.
  • The depth: we grade its features A, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. HyNote’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
