Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.0

GPA, above 1 of the 18 other course and community platforms we grade

Kajabi is an all-in-one platform for coaches, educators and other experts who sell what they know. Courses, coaching, communities, memberships, paid newsletters, podcasts and downloads sit beside a website builder, email marketing, funnels and checkout in one account. Kajabi takes no share of sales, though card processing fees apply.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Kajabi, taken from its own pages and our grades.

And you're setting up a site, emails, funnels and a checkout before anything sells.
From our grade for ease of use
  1. 1

Best for running a whole course business from one account

That's a stack of tools you won't pay for separately.

  2. 2

Paid plans start at $143 a month

As its pricing page puts it: $143 per month, billed annually ($179 billed monthly).

  3. 3

    You can try it first

14-day free trial of the full platform; it rolls into the Growth monthly plan at $249 unless cancelled

  4. 4

    It runs on 3 platforms

    Web, iOS and Android.

  5. 5

    Courses and coaching

Courses with drip release, progress tracking, assessments and cohorts, plus coaching programs, memberships, podcasts and digital downloads.

  6. 6

    Communities

Topic-based spaces with threaded posts, activity feeds and announcements, tied to product purchases. Basic and Growth include 1 community, Pro 3.

  7. 7

    Email, funnels and landing pages

Unlimited marketing emails, landing pages and funnels on every plan, with broadcasts, sequences and automations triggered by what students do.

  8. 8

    A 2.0 GPA, above 1 of 18

That is against the other course and community platforms we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

  9. 9

    Keep it

To replace Kajabi you would be making newsletters sent to thousands of people that still reach the inbox. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card

Best for running a whole course business from one account

Kajabi puts your site, emails, funnels, checkout, courses and community in one account, and takes no cut of your sales if you use Kajabi Payments. That's a stack of tools you won't pay for separately. But Basic is $143 a month billed yearly, the top of what this category charges, and the only way to try it is a 14-day trial that rolls into a paid plan.

ToolGPA report cardKajabiGraded Oct 17, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyDBasic is $143 a month billed yearly, and Kajabi takes no share of sales through Kajabi Payments, whose 2.9% + 30 cents is card processing. So $2,000 of sales a month costs $143, right where this category's dearest tenth starts. Use another processor and Basic adds 2%, another $40.
Free plan and trialDNo free plan. The 14-day trial covers the whole platform, but it rolls into Growth at $249 a month unless you cancel, so it's the kind that bills you at the end.
FeaturesBCourses with drip, assessments and cohorts, coaching, a community, unlimited emails, funnels and landing pages, upsells, affiliates, tax and paid newsletters. Nothing in the listing shows a gap in the job; Basic just stops at 5 products and 2,500 contacts.
Ease of useC4.34 from about 7,400 App Store ratings, mid-table for this category. And you're setting up a site, emails, funnels and a checkout before anything sells.
Platforms and integrationsBWeb, iPhone and Android, with Stripe, PayPal, Zapier, Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign and a public API. No desktop app, which an A needs. An app in your own name is on Pro, or $199 a month extra.
Grade point averageFair, out of 4.02.0

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Kajabi is for

  • Great if you want site, email, checkout and courses on one bill and one login
  • Handy when you sell courses, coaching and a newsletter to the same people
  • Good for coaches who'd rather not wire five tools together with Zapier

Who it is not for

  • Pricey if you're just starting, as Basic is $143 a month even billed yearly
  • Tight if you plan lots of offers, since Basic stops at 5 products and 2,500 contacts
  • Skip it if you want your own branded app without paying $199 a month or moving to Pro

Good to know

Good for

  • Coaches and educators who want site, email, checkout and courses in one account
  • Experts selling several kinds of product to the same audience
  • Businesses that want their own branded app in the app stores

Worth knowing

  • No revenue share, but Kajabi Payments charges 2.7% to 2.9% plus $0.30 a sale in the US; using another processor (not PayPal) adds 0.5% to 2%.
  • Basic stops at 5 products, 2,500 contacts and 2 admin users. Extra contacts cost $125 a month per block of 25,000.
  • There is no free plan. The branded mobile app is only in Pro unless bought for $199 a month.
  • Basic has no AI credits; Growth gets 500 and Pro 1,000, and 500 more cost $15 a month.

Part 04 · Standing

Where it stands

Its grades against its category, and whether to keep it or make your own

1/18

Other course and community platforms it is graded above

Kajabi's GPA of 2.0 is higher than 1 of the 18 other course and community platforms we grade, and level with 2.

It stands best on features (B, above 10 of 18) and worst on value for money (D, above 0).

Its paid plans start at $143 a month, against a middle price of $41 for the category: 16 of the 17 others that charge start lower.

On features, ease of use and platforms it scores 2.7 out of 4. 3 tools score higher and cost less.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace Kajabi you would be making newsletters sent to thousands of people that still reach the inbox. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 15 of the 18 other course and community platforms grade higher. It costs $1,716 a year.

What you could make

  • Online courses and paid newsletters: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • Newsletters sent to thousands of people that still reach the inbox.
  • Email sent in volume that still reaches the inbox.
  • A members' space with posts, chat and events that people keep coming back to.
  • A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
  • It plugs into other products, Stripe, PayPal and Zapier among them, and has an API.
  • AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
  • People on the other end: coaches. No app builder makes those.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. Kajabi’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
