Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

1.8

GPA, above 0 of the 6 other data removal services we grade

Kanary builds a threat model for each person, then finds and removes the exposures most likely to lead to harm across search engines and data brokers, and on its Advanced plan social media and AI chatbots too. It also asks Google to drop links once the source is gone and tidies account settings to stop new leaks. Members use a web dashboard and iPhone and Android apps to review results and approve removals.

To get you started, here are 8 things to know about Kanary, taken from its own pages and our grades.

No App Store rating on record, and it wants some of your time.
From our grade for ease of use
  1. 1

Best for people at risk of doxxing or harassment

    Kanary isn't really a bulk opt-out service.

  2. 2

Paid plans start at $20.83 a month when paid by the year

As its pricing page puts it: $250 per year, billed yearly ($25 a month billed monthly).

  3. 3

    It runs on 3 platforms

    Web, iOS and Android.

  4. 4

    Threat model per person

Kanary weighs each exposure by how likely it is to lead to doxxing, impersonation or phishing and works on those first, not only the easy opt-outs. It says it has covered more than 68,000 sites.

  5. 5

Search engines, brokers, social and AI

Core covers search engines and data brokers. Advanced adds social networks such as LinkedIn, X and YouTube, and AI chatbots, with full-site monitoring.

  6. 6

    Google cleanup

After a source page is cleaned, Kanary asks Google to drop the link, handles Google's doxxing and harassment removals for sites that will not cooperate, and updates your Google settings to block new results.

  7. 7

    A 1.8 GPA, above 0 of 6

That is against the other data removal services we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

  8. 8

    Keep it

To replace Kanary you would be making opt-out requests to hundreds of data brokers, sent again whenever they list you again. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card

Best for people at risk of doxxing or harassment

Kanary isn't really a bulk opt-out service. It works out which bits of your data are most likely to get you doxxed or impersonated and goes after those first, across search engines and data brokers, and on Advanced social media and AI chatbots too. At $250 a year for Core it's the dearest here, so it suits people facing a real threat more than people who just want fewer spam calls.

ToolGPA report cardKanaryGraded Oct 18, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyDCore is $250 a year paid yearly, or $25 a month paid monthly, the dearest way into this category by a distance. Advanced, where social media and AI chatbots come in, is $500 a year. Family members are half price, $125 a year on Core.
Free plan and trialFNo free plan and no trial. The 30-day money-back guarantee only covers the first month, and it isn't a trial anyway.
FeaturesBSearch engines and data brokers on Core, with scans and requests it says run monthly, and it asks Google to drop dead links. Advanced adds social media, AI chatbots, weekly scans and attorney general escalation, though some of those may cost extra.
Ease of useCNo App Store rating on record, and it wants some of your time. You approve or deny unfamiliar results in the app, and Kanary says removals average 60 to 80% for hands-off members against 90 to 95% for those who answer identity checks.
Platforms and integrationsBA web dashboard plus iPhone and Android apps for reviewing results and approving removals. There's no computer app and no integrations on record, so it stops at B. It's built for US residents, with UK users only recently added.
Grade point averageWeak, out of 4.01.8

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Kanary is for

  • Great if you're a public figure, executive or creator facing doxxing or harassment
  • Handy when your worry is social media and AI chatbots, which Advanced covers
  • Good for covering your family too, as each added member is half price

Who it is not for

  • Pricey if you just want fewer spam calls and junk mail, as Core is $250 a year
  • Skip it if you want to try it first, as there's no free plan or trial
  • Not for you if you live outside the US or UK, as it's built for US addresses and helps others case by case

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace Kanary you would be making opt-out requests to hundreds of data brokers, sent again whenever they list you again. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 4 of the 6 other data removal services grade higher. It costs $250 a year.

What you could make

  • Reports: an app builder makes this well.

What you could not

  • Opt-out requests to hundreds of data brokers, sent again whenever they list you again.
  • A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. Kanary’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
