Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.8
GPA, above 15 of the 21 other AI image and video generators we grade
Krea brings its own models and many partner models, such as Nano Banana, Seedance, Veo and Kling, into one app for making and editing images, video and 3D objects. It adds a live canvas that renders as you draw, upscaling to very large sizes, custom LoRA training, a node-based workflow editor, and plugins for Photoshop, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve and Blender. Usage is paid in compute units.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Krea, taken from its own pages and our grades.
And with nodes, LoRAs, an agent and dozens of models, there's a fair bit to learn.
- 1
Best for lots of models on a small budget
Krea is a big box of image and video models with a live canvas that renders as you sketch, plus LoRA training and plugins for the apps designers already use.
- 2
Paid plans start at $5.25 a month
As its pricing page puts it: $5.25 per month for 5,000 units, billed annually ($9 billed monthly).
- 3
There is a free plan
100 compute units a day, refilled daily, with real-time generation, the image and 3D models, LoRA training on up to 50 images and upscaling to 2K.
- 4
It runs on 2 platforms
Web and iOS.
- 5
Many models in one place
Krea's own image models sit beside partner image and video models such as Nano Banana, GPT, Seedance, Veo, Sora and Kling.
- 6
Real-time canvas
Generates images as you type or draw on a live canvas, for fast iteration before a final render.
- 7
Editing and upscaling
Change an image by describing the edit with the Krea 3 model, remove backgrounds, and upscale images up to 22K on paid plans, plus video upscaling.
- 8
A 2.8 GPA, above 15 of 21
That is against the other AI image and video generators we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.
- 9
Keep it
To replace Krea you would be making an image model, which you can rent by the picture but not make. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card
Best for lots of models on a small budget
Krea is a big box of image and video models with a live canvas that renders as you sketch, plus LoRA training and plugins for the apps designers already use. Basic is about $5 a month on yearly billing, one of the cheapest ways into this category. Veo, Sora and Kling need Pro at $21, though, and personal-plan units don't roll over.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | A | Basic is $5.25 a month on yearly billing ($9 monthly) for 5,000 units, under 60% of this category's cheaper quarter. That's about 64 Nano Banana 2 images or 20 Seedance 2.0 videos a month, plus upscaling to 22K. Veo and Kling need Pro at $21. |
| Free plan and trial | C | 100 units a day, refilled daily, with the live canvas, image and 3D models, LoRA training on 50 images and 2K upscaling. Video is off, though, and Basic's own figures put a Nano Banana 2 image at about 78 units. |
| Features | B | Its own models plus Nano Banana, Seedance, Veo and Kling, a canvas that renders as you draw, editing, upscaling to 22K, LoRA training, a node editor, an agent, and plugins for Photoshop, Premiere, Resolve and Blender. Nothing core is missing. |
| Ease of use | C | 4.49 from 689 App Store ratings, just under the 4.5 line. And with nodes, LoRAs, an agent and dozens of models, there's a fair bit to learn. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web and iPhone, plus plugins for Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve and Blender, an API and an MCP server. No Android or desktop app of its own. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Krea is for
- Great if you want lots of image and video models for about $5 a month
- Handy when you sketch ideas fast on a canvas that renders as you draw
- A treat if you work in Photoshop, Premiere, Resolve or Blender and want it inside them
Who it is not for
- Tight if you want Veo, Sora or Kling, which need Pro at $21 a month
- Not for you if you want unused units to roll over on a personal plan
- Skip it if you want to make video free, as the free plan runs no video jobs
Good to know
Good for
- Designers who want many partner models under one subscription
- Fast visual exploration on a live, render-as-you-draw canvas
- Small studios sharing one pool of units across up to 50 members
Worth knowing
- Units on Basic, Pro and Max reset monthly and do not roll over; only Business and Enterprise carry unused units forward.
- Basic covers selected video models only; Veo, Sora, Kling and the other video models need Pro or above.
- After units run out, unlimited slower generation covers only supported in-house image models.
- SAML SSO, an SLA and IP indemnification are limited to Enterprise.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace Krea you would be making an image model, which you can rent by the picture but not make. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 2.8 is higher than 15 of the 21 other AI image and video generators we grade. It costs $63 a year.
What you could not
- An image model, which you can rent by the picture but not make.
- A video model, which you can rent by the second but not make.
- A real app for iOS. Something home-made would be a web page.
- It plugs into other products, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe After Effects and Adobe Premiere Pro among them, and has an API.
- AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. Krea’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
