Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.8
GPA, above 32 of the 40 other automation tools we grade
Latenode is an AI workflow automation platform with a drag-and-drop builder in which any node can be switched to JavaScript with NPM packages. It cites more than 5,500 integrations and includes an AI agent node, RAG knowledge storage, a headless browser, a database and access to 335+ LLMs. Billing is based on the CPU seconds a workflow runs for, not the number of steps in it, with a free monthly allowance.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Latenode, taken from its own pages and our grades.
- 1
Best for long, many-step workflows on a small budget
Latenode bills for how long a workflow runs, not how many steps it has, with no base fee and the first 10,000 CPU seconds a month free.
- 2
What it costs
Paid plans start at Pay as you go: $0.00012 per CPU second after 10,000 free a month, no base fee.
- 3
There is a free plan
Free forever: 10,000 CPU seconds a month, 5 active scenarios, 1 worker, runs of up to 3 minutes, 3 days of run history and 10 connected authorizations. No credit card required.
- 4
It runs on Web
Web.
- 5
Visual builder with code nodes
Workflows are built on a drag-and-drop canvas, and any node can be switched to JavaScript with NPM packages. An AI code copilot writes, explains and debugs the code.
- 6
AI Assistant
Describe an automation in plain English and the assistant produces the nodes, connections and JavaScript for it. Ready-made templates cover common workflows.
- 7
AI agents and RAG
An AI Agent node reasons over a task and calls other nodes as tools. RAG storage grounds agents in your documents; one storage is included and more are an add-on.
- 8
A 2.8 GPA, above 32 of 40
That is against the other automation tools we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.
- 9
Keep it
To replace Latenode you would be making connections to other products, each kept working as those products change. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card
Best for long, many-step workflows on a small budget
Latenode bills for how long a workflow runs, not how many steps it has, with no base fee and the first 10,000 CPU seconds a month free. Guessing the bill is the hard part, because runtime, add-ons from $5 to $70 a month and AI tokens at $1 each are counted separately. Free stops at 5 active scenarios and 3-minute runs, and there's no phone or desktop app.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | B | No base fee, and after the free 10,000 CPU seconds you pay $0.00012 a second: Latenode's own example puts 100,000 seconds a month at $10.80, under the $15 this category usually starts at. Steps don't add to it. Add-ons do, from $5 to $70 a month, and built-in AI models are $1 a token. |
| Free plan and trial | B | Free forever with no card: 10,000 CPU seconds a month, every app, AI agents, RAG, the headless browser and the database. One person could really work with that. The edges are 5 active scenarios, 1 worker, 3-minute runs, 3 days of history and a 10-minute trigger interval. |
| Features | B | A drag-and-drop canvas where any node becomes JavaScript with NPM packages, 5,500 integrations, an AI agent node with RAG storage, a headless browser on every plan and 335+ models without your own keys. The job, covered, with a code escape hatch when you need one. |
| Ease of use | C | No store rating on record. The assistant will turn a description into nodes and JavaScript, but the bill is the hard part: runtime, add-ons and AI tokens are counted separately, so working out what a workflow costs takes some thought. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web only, with no phone or desktop app. The connections make up for it: 5,500 integrations, NPM packages inside code nodes, and a built-in headless browser for sites that have no API at all. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Latenode is for
- Fits if your workflows have lots of steps, since steps don't add to the bill
- Works for developers who want JavaScript and NPM packages inside a visual builder
Who it is not for
- Tight if you're staying free, with 5 active scenarios, 1 worker, 3-minute runs and 3 days of run history
- Skip it if you want one fixed monthly price, because runtime, add-ons and AI tokens are billed separately
- Not for you if you need triggers checked faster than every 10 minutes and won't pay for an add-on
- Watch out: built-in AI models cost $1 a Plug-n-Play token on top of runtime, and files over 16 MB are an add-on
- Watch out: inviting teammates is a Pay as you go benefit, not part of Free
Good to know
Good for
- Workflows with many steps, since steps do not add to the bill
- Developers who want JavaScript and NPM packages in a visual builder
- Automating websites that have no API with the headless browser
Worth knowing
- Free is limited to 5 active scenarios, 1 worker, 3-minute runs, 3 days of history and a 10-minute trigger interval.
- Polling faster than every 10 minutes, runs longer than 10 minutes and files over 16 MB are paid add-ons, priced from $5 to $70 a month.
- Built-in AI models and other paid provider nodes are billed in Plug-n-Play tokens at $1 each, on top of runtime charges.
- Inviting teammates to a workspace is listed as a Pay as you go benefit, not part of Free.

Part 03 · Features
What it does
Its main features, where it runs, what it works with and who makes it
1
Place it runs: Web
AI workflow automation billed by runtime instead of by step. Here is what it does, as its own site describes it, and what it covers: AI features, databases, templates, workflow automation, AI agents, app builder.
The job, covered, with a code escape hatch when you need one.
- Visual builder with code nodes
- Workflows are built on a drag-and-drop canvas, and any node can be switched to JavaScript with NPM packages. An AI code copilot writes, explains and debugs the code.
- AI Assistant

- AI agents and RAG
- An AI Agent node reasons over a task and calls other nodes as tools. RAG storage grounds agents in your documents; one storage is included and more are an add-on.
- Headless browser
- A built-in headless browser automates sites that have no API, covering scraping, form filling, screenshots and other UI flows. It is included on every plan.
- Built-in AI models
- Latenode offers 335+ LLMs without separate API keys. Nodes that use paid providers are marked with a $ icon and charged in Plug-n-Play tokens, at $1 per token.
- Runtime-based billing
- Cost is runs multiplied by average seconds per run, and the number of nodes does not add to it. Latenode's example: 100,000 CPU seconds in a month costs $10.80.

Where it stands
Its grades against its category, and whether to keep it or make your own

Other automation tools it is graded above
Latenode's GPA of 2.8 is higher than 32 of the 40 other automation tools we grade, and level with 5.
It stands best on free plan and trial (B, above 29 of 40) and worst on ease of use (C, above 3).

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace Latenode you would be making connections to other products, each kept working as those products change. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 2.8 is higher than 32 of the 40 other automation tools we grade.
What you could make
- Templates: an app builder makes this well.
What you could not
- Connections to other products, each kept working as those products change.
- An AI agent, with the models and the safeguards behind it.
- A tool that builds and hosts other apps.
- Databases with views, filters and links between them.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. Latenode’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
