Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.2
GPA, above 6 of the 123 other to-do list apps we grade
Llama Life is part to-do list and part task timer. Every task gets its own countdown, so a list becomes a sequence of timeboxes with a total list time and an estimated finishing time, and reusable Preset Lists cover routines. Its founder built it after being diagnosed with ADHD as an adult, and it is aimed at working through today's tasks one at a time. It runs in a desktop browser and on iOS and Android, and requires a subscription after a 7-day trial.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Llama Life, taken from its own pages and our grades.
No store rating on record, and it's a web signup rather than something you install and use.
- 1
Best for getting through today's list one timer at a time
Llama Life puts a countdown on every task, so today's list becomes a run of timeboxes with a finishing time at the bottom.
- 2
Paid plans start at $3.25 a month when paid by the year
As its pricing page puts it: $39 per year, or $6 billed monthly.
- 3
You can try it first

- 4
It runs on 3 platforms
Web, iOS and Android.
- 5
A countdown timer for every task
Each task gets its own timer, from 1 minute to several hours, to encourage working on one thing at a time. When a timer reaches zero, Overtime keeps counting the extra time.
- 6
List time and end time
The list shows the start and end time of each task, the total list time and an estimated finishing time for the day.
- 7
Preset Lists
Tasks that are done together, such as a morning routine, are saved as a preset and loaded into the Now list in a few clicks. Templates from the site can be imported as presets.
- 8
A 2.2 GPA, above 6 of 123
That is against the other to-do list apps we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

The report card
Best for getting through today's list one timer at a time
Llama Life puts a countdown on every task, so today's list becomes a run of timeboxes with a finishing time at the bottom. There's no free plan, just a 7-day trial and then $39 a year or $6 a month. The vendor says to keep your projects in another tool, so it may be a second subscription, the Todoist and Notion imports are one-way, and there's no desktop app.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | $39 a year works out at $3.25 a month, which sits in the middle of this category's $2.42 to $5.00 range. Pay monthly and it's $6, above the dearer quarter. And since the vendor says to keep your projects elsewhere, it may well be a second subscription, not a replacement. |
| Free plan and trial | C | No free plan at all. You get 7 days with no credit card asked for, and then it's Monthly or Annual or nothing. |
| Features | C | It does timeboxing today completely: a countdown per task, Overtime when you run long, the list's finishing time, Preset Lists for routines, Break-it-down, Random Task and soundscapes. But it's a smaller job than this category's, and the vendor says to keep your projects in something like Todoist. |
| Ease of use | C | No store rating on record, and it's a web signup rather than something you install and use. The idea is easy enough, type a task and a time, but the useful parts, preset lists and the Todoist or Notion import, are yours to set up first. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | A web app plus iPhone and Android, with imports from Todoist and Notion, so there is something to connect to. No desktop app, though, both imports are one-way, the Notion one is still beta, and the App Store listing is iPhone only. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Llama Life is for
- Fits if you work through tasks with a clock counting down on each one
- Works for Todoist users who want today's tasks pulled into a timed list
Who it is not for
- Not for you if you want a free plan, as there's only the 7-day trial
- Too light for keeping all your projects, which the vendor suggests leaving in a tool like Todoist
- Pricey if you pay monthly, at $72 over a year against $39 on the Annual plan
- Watch out: the Todoist and Notion imports only bring tasks in, nothing is written back, and Notion is still beta
- Skip it if you want a desktop app or an iPad app, as there's no desktop app and the App Store listing is iPhone only
Good to know
Good for
- People who work better with a visible countdown on each task
- Adults with ADHD, the audience the founder built it for
- Running repeatable routines from preset lists
- Todoist users who want a focused list for today's tasks
Worth knowing
- There is no free plan: after the 7-day trial a Monthly or Annual subscription is required.
- The Todoist and Notion integrations only import tasks; nothing is written back to either service.
- The vendor positions it for working through today's tasks and suggests keeping a main list of projects in a tool such as Todoist.
- The App Store listing is for iPhone only.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Your call
A to-do list at its plainest is tasks with dates, repeats and a box to tick.
You could make the core of Llama Life for yourself: tasks, time tracking and templates. What you would give up is listed below. Whether that is worth the price is your call. It costs $39 a year.
What you could make
- Tasks, time tracking and templates: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- A library of sound you would have to license.
- A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
What this rests on. Llama Life’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
