How we grade them

Value for money
B$39 a year, or $6 if you pay monthly, which adds up to $72. The yearly price is about typical for a paid to-do app. Bear in mind it's built for today's list, so it may sit next to another to-do app, not replace it.
AFree on every platform under the MIT license, with no premium tier and no trial. There's simply nothing to buy. Development runs on optional donations through GitHub Sponsors.
Free plan and trial
CNo free plan. You get a 7-day trial with no credit card, and after that it's the Monthly or the Annual subscription.
AEvery feature on every platform is free, with no account needed. There's no paid plan, so there are no limits to bump into. Download it and you have the lot.
Features
BEvery task gets its own countdown, with Overtime if you run long, and the list shows when you'll finish. Preset Lists handle routines and Break-it-down splits big tasks into steps. It does today's list fully. It's not for holding your projects, and Llama Life says as much.
ATasks with subtasks, tags, projects and repeats, shown as lists, a Kanban board or an Eisenhower Matrix. Starting a task tracks time against it, and that becomes time sheets. Add Pomodoro and Flowtime sessions, a day planner beside your calendar, and issue imports from Jira, GitHub and GitLab.
Ease of use
BWe have no App Store rating on record, so a B is as high as we go. The idea is simple: add tasks, give each one a time, press start. It'll even pick a random task for you if starting is the hard part.
BNo account, and your data sits on your device from the first minute. But syncing two devices means connecting Dropbox, WebDAV or SuperSync yourself, and SuperSync is labeled beta. There's no rating on record to go by, so a B.
Platforms and integrations
ADesktop browser, iPhone and Android, with imports from Todoist and Notion. Both imports are one-way, and the Notion one is labelled beta. The App Store listing is for iPhone only.
AWindows, Mac, Linux, iPhone, Android and the web, with links to Jira, GitHub, GitLab, Gitea, Trello, Google Calendar and Dropbox. One catch: the web app is more limited, as calendar integration and WebDAV sync are likely to fail in a browser.

Who each one suits

Llama Life

  • People who work better with a visible countdown on each task
  • Adults with ADHD, the audience the founder built it for
  • Running repeatable routines from preset lists
  • Todoist users who want a focused list for today's tasks

Super Productivity

  • Developers who plan their day from Jira, GitHub or GitLab issues
  • Freelancers who need time sheets from the tasks they tracked
  • People who want a free app that keeps data on their own device

Worth knowing

Llama Life

  • There is no free plan: after the 7-day trial a Monthly or Annual subscription is required.
  • The Todoist and Notion integrations only import tasks; nothing is written back to either service.
  • The vendor positions it for working through today's tasks and suggests keeping a main list of projects in a tool such as Todoist.
  • The App Store listing is for iPhone only.

Super Productivity

  • The web app is more limited than the desktop app: calendar integration and WebDAV sync are likely to fail in a browser because of CORS.
  • SuperSync is labeled beta, and the project's wiki suggests Nextcloud, WebDAV or Dropbox for production use until it is stable.
  • Fetching issues and sending work logs needs a network connection, and a failed issue update is not retried automatically.
  • The project is maintained by volunteers and funded by donations; help comes from the community on GitHub and Reddit.

Key features

Llama Life

A countdown timer for every task
Each task gets its own timer, from 1 minute to several hours, to encourage working on one thing at a time. When a timer reaches zero, Overtime keeps counting the extra time.
List time and end time
The list shows the start and end time of each task, the total list time and an estimated finishing time for the day.
Preset Lists
Tasks that are done together, such as a morning routine, are saved as a preset and loaded into the Now list in a few clicks. Templates from the site can be imported as presets.
Break-it-down and Random Task
A large task can be split into smaller steps with a suggested time for each, and the app can pick a random task from the list to help with getting started.
Alarms, chimes and soundscapes
Alarms can be silent and visual, nagging or continuous, a chime can sound at a chosen interval, and background sounds include beach, forest, thunderstorm and wind.
Todoist and Notion import
Tasks due today in Todoist and page titles from Notion can be pulled in as tasks. Both integrations are one-way, and the Notion one is labeled beta.

Super Productivity

Tasks, projects and boards
Tasks take subtasks, notes, tags, projects and repeat rules, and can be viewed as lists, on a Kanban board, in an Eisenhower Matrix or on boards you build yourself.
Time tracking and time sheets
Starting a task tracks time against it. Tracked time can be turned into time sheets and work summaries for export to a company's time-tracking system.
Focus mode and break reminders
Focus mode offers Pomodoro, Flowtime and countdown sessions, and a break reminder tells you when it is time to step away.
Planner and schedule
The planner lays the day out on a schedule timeline next to calendar events, which come in through Google Calendar or any CalDAV calendar.
Issue tracker imports
Issues assigned to you can be imported from Jira, GitHub, GitLab, Gitea and other trackers, with time tracked per issue and work logs sent back.
Local data and optional sync
Data is stored on the device and no account is needed. Devices can sync through Dropbox, WebDAV or SuperSync, the project's end-to-end encrypted service that can be self-hosted.

Ways to pay less

Llama Life

  • Annual discount

Annual plan: $39 against $72 paid monthly

The Annual plan costs $39 a year, against $72 for twelve months on the $6 Monthly plan, a saving of about 46%.

  • Other savings

30% off the first year of the Annual plan

A site banner advertises 30% off the first year of the Annual plan, shown as $27.50 instead of $39. It gives October 7, 2026 as the end date, but the page still showed the sale on October 9.
