Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.4

GPA, above 17 of the 69 other daily planner apps we grade

Moleskine Planner, previously called Moleskine Balance, is a calendar and task app for iPhone, iPad and Mac from the notebook maker Moleskine, developed by edo.io. It shows the device's calendars next to tasks on a daily timeline and a weekly overview, and tasks can be given icons, colors, subtasks and notes and grouped into lists. The app is free to download, with paid memberships sold as in-app purchases.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Moleskine Planner, taken from its own pages and our grades.

A time slider moves a task or changes how long it takes, and a long press sends it to another day.

The report card

Best for a Moleskine-style timeline on Apple devices

Moleskine Planner puts your calendar and your tasks on one daily timeline, from the notebook company. It's Apple only, it connects to nothing beyond the calendars on your device, and it needs iOS 17 or macOS 14. The pricing is odd: a membership starts at $3.99 a month, but nowhere does Moleskine say what's free and what you're paying for, and the store lists six different purchases.

ToolGPA report cardMoleskine PlannerGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyBMembership is $3.99 a month or $29.99 a year on the US App Store, which is about $2.50 a month and inside the cheaper quarter of this category. But neither the store nor Moleskine's site says what the membership unlocks, so you can't tell what you're buying.
Free plan and trialCIt's a free download and you can start without paying. But Moleskine publishes no list of what's free and what needs a membership, so the caps are there and you only find them by walking into them. There's no trial on record either.
FeaturesCThe basics: your device calendars and tasks on a daily timeline or in blocks, a weekly overview, subtasks, notes, icons, colors and themed lists, with a long press to move a task. The gap is plain on the listing: nothing it connects to beyond the calendars already on the device.
Ease of useB4.52 from about 500 App Store ratings. A time slider moves a task or changes how long it takes, and a long press sends it to another day.
Platforms and integrationsCApple and nothing else: iPhone, iPad, Mac and Vision Pro, on iOS 17, iPadOS 17 or macOS 14 and later. Moleskine links no Android or web version, and the listing names no integrations.
Grade point averageFair, out of 4.02.4

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Moleskine Planner is for

  • Fits if you want a paper-planner look on your iPhone, iPad and Mac
  • Works for people who want calendar events and timed tasks on the same daily timeline

Who it is not for

  • Skip it if you use Android or Windows, as it's Apple devices only
  • Not for you if you want to know what's free before you start, because Moleskine doesn't say
  • Skip it if your devices are older, since it needs iOS 17, iPadOS 17 or macOS 14
  • Watch out: the store lists six purchases from $3.99 a month to $39.99 a year, some with no stated terms
  • Too light for linking other apps, as the listing names no integrations

Good to know

Good for

  • People who want a paper-planner look on iPhone, iPad and Mac
  • Seeing calendar events and timed tasks on one daily timeline
  • Sorting tasks into themed lists with icons and colors

  • The vendor's site publishes no prices; the figures here are in-app purchase amounts from the US App Store.
  • The app requires iOS 17, iPadOS 17 or macOS 14 or later.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Your call

A daily planner at its plainest is today's tasks laid along a timeline.

You could make the core of Moleskine Planner for yourself: calendar, tasks and time blocking. What you would give up is listed below. Whether that is worth the price is your call. At $29.99 a year it costs less than the weekend it would take to replace, which is the argument for keeping it.

What you could make

  • Calendar, tasks and time blocking: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • Apps for macOS and iOS that stay in step with each other.

What this rests on. Moleskine Planner’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
