Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.0

GPA, above 0 of the 42 other time tracking apps we grade

Noko is a web-based time tracker for consultancies and agencies that bill for their time. Entries are logged against projects and categorized with tags, timers sync between the browser, a Mac menu bar app and an iPhone app, and the logged time feeds reports and client invoices. Plans are priced per month with a set number of users included and a fee for each extra user.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Noko, taken from its own pages and our grades.

Logging is quick, from any page, and you can make a new client's project while you're at it.

    It runs on 3 platforms

    Web, macOS and iOS.

  5. 5

Fast entry with projects and tags

Time is logged from any page against a project, with tags to categorize the work. A new client's project can be created while logging the entry.

  6. 6

    Timers that follow you

A timer started in the browser carries over to the Mac menu bar app or the iPhone app, and timers have keyboard shortcuts.

  7. 7

    Billing increments and unbillable time

Timers and entries round up automatically to the increment you set. Unbillable time is tracked separately to show client and project overhead.

  8. 8

That is against the other time tracking apps we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

The report card

Best for small agencies that invoice for hours

Noko is time tracking and invoicing for small agencies and consultants who bill by the hour, with timers in the browser, a Mac menu bar app and an iPhone app. One person pays $12 a month for a plan that doesn't invoice, invoicing means $19, Team bills 5 users at $49 however many of you there are, and there's no Android or Windows app. The free account isn't on the plans page: you email support for it.

ToolGPA report cardNokoGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyDEssential is $12 a month for one user, which is the dearest tenth of this category, and it doesn't invoice. Invoicing means Solo at $19, nearly three times what a time tracker typically costs. Team is $49 a month with 5 users included even if there are two of you.
Free plan and trialCThe plans page has no free plan, just a 30-day trial, fully functional and with no card asked for. The help centre does describe a free account with 1 user and 1 project, but you have to email support to get it.
FeaturesCQuick entry against projects with tags, timers that round up to your billing increment, unbillable time kept separate, and invoices in several currencies paid through Stripe or PayPal. But nothing tracks automatically, there are no budgets on record, and entry approval starts on Team.
Ease of useCNo store rating on record. Logging is quick, from any page, and you can make a new client's project while you're at it. It's still a web app where you build out the projects and tags first, and timers have shortcuts worth learning.
Platforms and integrationsBWeb, a Mac menu bar app and an iPhone app, with a REST API, Zapier, Basecamp, QuickBooks Online and GitHub. But there's no native Android or Windows app. Android phones get the mobile web app instead.
Grade point averageFair, out of 4.02.0

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Noko is for

  • Fits if you run a small agency or consultancy and invoice for hours
  • Works for developers who want to log time from GitHub commit messages

Who it is not for

  • Pricey if you're on your own, at $12 a month without invoicing or $19 with it
  • Skip it if you want a native Android or Windows app, because neither exists
  • Not for you if you want a free plan you can just sign up for, as the free account means emailing support
  • Pricey if you're a team of two or three, since Team bills 5 users at $49 a month and Organization 25 at $199
  • Watch out: entry approval starts on Team, the audit log needs Organization, and no budgets are on record

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

The plain part of Noko you could make: time tracking, invoicing and reports. What surrounds it you could not. The 4 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.

That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 39 of the 42 other time tracking apps grade higher. It costs $144 a year.

What you could make

  • Time tracking, invoicing and reports: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • A native app living in the menu bar.
  • Apps for macOS and iOS that stay in step with each other.
  • It plugs into other products, Basecamp, QuickBooks Online and GitHub among them, and has an API.
  • Sharing with other people, which means accounts and invitations.

What this rests on. Noko’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
