Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
3.0
GPA, above 10 of the 17 other password managers we grade
NordPass is a password manager from the company behind NordVPN. It generates, stores and autofills passwords and passkeys, keeps credit cards and notes, and syncs them across devices. It also includes a Password Health check, a Data Breach Scanner, email masking and an authenticator for one-time codes, and it describes its security as XChaCha20 encryption with a zero-knowledge architecture.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about NordPass, taken from its own pages and our grades.
It saves a login as you make it and fills it in with a click, and you unlock with your face or fingerprint.
- 1
Best for password storage with breach alerts and masked emails
There's no web vault, no API and no integrations on record, and file attachments are Premium.
- 2
Paid plans start at $2.67 a month when paid by the year
As its pricing page puts it: $4.99 for 1 month, or $31.99 to $35.99 for 12 months (US App Store in-app prices).
- 3
There is a free plan
Free plan for storing, generating and autofilling passwords and passkeys. A third-party review reports that it leaves out weak-password detection and breach scanning.
- 4
It runs on 5 platforms
macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android, with a browser extension too.
- 5
Autofill and autosave
Saves logins as you create them and fills them in with a click. Credit cards and personal information can be stored and filled the same way.
- 6
Passkeys
Stores passkeys alongside passwords so they can be used across your devices.
- 7
Password Health
Checks the vault and points out weak passwords that should be changed.
- 8
A 3.0 GPA, above 10 of 17
That is against the other password managers we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.
- 9
Keep it
To replace NordPass you would be making a password vault, the last thing anyone should make for themselves. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card
Best for password storage with breach alerts and masked emails
NordPass is a password manager from the NordVPN people, with apps on every desktop and phone, a Data Breach Scanner and masked email addresses. There's no web vault, no API and no integrations on record, and file attachments are Premium. Paying monthly costs $4.99 against $31.99 to $35.99 for a year, and what the free plan leaves out is known only from an outside review.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | A 12-month plan is $31.99 to $35.99 on the US App Store, so $2.67 to $3 a month, which is the ordinary middle of this category. Pay by the month and it's $4.99, within a penny of the dearest tenth, for the same thing. |
| Free plan and trial | B | The free plan stores, generates and autofills passwords and passkeys with no limit named, so you could live on it. What it leaves out, per an outside review, is weak-password checks and breach scanning, and file attachments are Premium. |
| Features | B | Nothing this category expects is missing: autofill and autosave for logins, cards and personal details, passkeys, a Password Health check, a Data Breach Scanner, email masking and an authenticator for one-time codes. None of it is beyond the rivals either. |
| Ease of use | A | 4.7 from about 13,000 App Store ratings, which is the top band here. It saves a login as you make it and fills it in with a click, and you unlock with your face or fingerprint. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Mac, Windows, Linux, iPhone, Android and a browser extension, so every device you own is covered. But there's no web vault, no API and no integrations on record, so there's nothing to wire it into. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who NordPass is for
- Fits if you want to hear when one of your logins turns up in a data breach
- Works for giving shops a masked email address, on Linux as well as other systems
Who it is not for
- Pricey if you pay by the month, at $4.99 against $31.99 to $35.99 for 12 months
- Tight if you're staying free: attachments are Premium, and an outside review says breach scans and weak-password checks are too
- Skip it if you want to wire your password manager into other tools, as no API or integrations are listed
- Not for you if you want a web vault to sign into from any browser, as none is on record
- Watch out: the free plan's limits and the 30-day trial come from an outside review, not NordPass's own pages
Good to know
Good for
- People who want breach monitoring and email masking built into a password manager
- Users who need native apps on desktop and mobile, including Linux
- Anyone who wants to start on a free plan before paying
Worth knowing
- File attachments are a Premium feature.
- A third-party review reports that the free plan does not include weak-password detection or breach scanning.
- The in-app 1-month plan costs $4.99, well above the monthly equivalent of the 12-month plans listed at $31.99 to $35.99.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace NordPass you would be making a password vault, the last thing anyone should make for themselves. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
It costs $31.99 a year.
What you could not
- A password vault, the last thing anyone should make for themselves.
- Passkeys, which rest on security you cannot improvise.
- Apps for macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android that stay in step with each other.
- End-to-end encryption done properly.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. NordPass’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
