Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.8

GPA, above 10 of the 14 other antivirus apps we grade

Norton 360 is Gen Digital's security subscription for home users. Plans combine real-time antivirus with a VPN, a password manager, cloud backup for Windows PCs and parental controls, and the Norton 360 with LifeLock plans add identity theft protection and credit monitoring. Plans differ mainly in device count and backup space.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Norton 360, taken from its own pages and our grades.

  1. 1

Best for antivirus, a VPN and PC backup in one

Norton 360 bundles antivirus with a VPN, a password manager and cloud backup for Windows PCs, and the LifeLock plans add US identity theft cover.

  2. 2

Paid plans start at $7.08 a month when paid by the year

As its pricing page puts it: $84.99 per year at renewal (Standard, 1 device), after a first year from $34.99.

  3. 3

    You can try it first

30-day trial on Norton's US order pages; the iPhone app offers 7 days with an annual plan

  4. 4

    It runs on 4 platforms

    Windows, macOS, Android and iOS.

  5. 5

    Real-time device protection

Protects against ransomware, viruses, spyware and other malware on Windows, Mac, Android and iOS, with Norton's Virus Protection Promise of a refund if its experts cannot remove a virus.

  6. 6

    Secure VPN and ad-tracker blocker

Norton 360 plans include a VPN for as many devices as the plan covers, plus anonymous browsing and blocking of advertising trackers.

  7. 7

    PC cloud backup

Plans include cloud storage for backing up files from a Windows PC, from 2 GB on the smallest plans up to 500 GB on Ultimate Plus.

  8. 8

    A 2.8 GPA, above 10 of 14

That is against the other antivirus apps we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

  9. 9

    Keep it

To replace Norton 360 you would be making an engine that recognises new malware as it appears. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card

Best for antivirus, a VPN and PC backup in one

Norton 360 bundles antivirus with a VPN, a password manager and cloud backup for Windows PCs, and the LifeLock plans add US identity theft cover. With 4.7 stars from about 183,000 App Store ratings, people clearly get on with it. Just know the cheap first year jumps to $104.99 a year for 5 devices when it renews.

SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyCDeluxe covers 5 devices for $39.99 the first year and $104.99 the next, so $144.98 over two years, about $6 a month. That's above the middle of antivirus apps but short of the dearest tenth.
Free plan and trialCA 30-day trial on Norton's US order pages, and the listing doesn't say whether it wants a card. The iPhone app gives 7 days with an annual plan. There's no free version.
FeaturesBReal-time protection on four platforms, a VPN for every device on the plan, a password manager, PC cloud backup and parental controls, plus a refund if its experts can't remove a virus. The gaps are on Mac, which gets no backup and no Norton Family.
Ease of useA4.7 from about 183,000 App Store ratings. That's a huge crowd, and a happy one.
Platforms and integrationsBWindows, Mac, Android and iPhone. Cloud backup is for Windows PCs only, and there's no API or integration list on record, so it stops at B.
Grade point averageGood, out of 4.02.8

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Norton 360 is for

  • Great if you want your PC's files backed up by the same app that guards it
  • Handy when you want a VPN on every device without a second subscription
  • Good for US buyers who want identity theft cover with their antivirus

Who it is not for

  • Skip it if renewal surprises annoy you, since the first term is priced lower than what follows
  • Not for you if you're on a Mac and want the cloud backup or parental controls

Good to know

Good for

  • Households that want antivirus, a VPN and a password manager in one subscription
  • Windows users who want their files backed up to the cloud by their security app
  • US buyers who want identity theft cover alongside device protection

Worth knowing

  • Prices come from one of Norton's US order pages, where first-year prices vary between sections; the main site refused automated reads on 2026-10-17.
  • Norton's order pages say plans are priced for an introductory term and then renew automatically at a higher renewal price.
  • Cloud backup is for Windows PCs, and Norton Family parental controls do not work on Mac.
  • LifeLock identity features rely on US credit bureaus such as Equifax and need your identity verified first.

Its grades against its category, and whether to keep it or make your own

10/14

Other antivirus apps it is graded above

Norton 360's GPA of 2.8 is higher than 10 of the 14 other antivirus apps we grade, and level with 3.

It stands best on ease of use (A, above 13 of 14) and worst on value for money (C, above 3).

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace Norton 360 you would be making an engine that recognises new malware as it appears. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 2.8 is higher than 10 of the 14 other antivirus apps we grade. It costs $84.99 a year.

What you could make

  • Ad and tracker blocking: an app builder makes this well.

What you could not

  • An engine that recognises new malware as it appears.
  • Servers in dozens of countries, kept fast and private.
  • A password vault, the last thing anyone should make for themselves.
  • Apps for macOS, Windows, iOS and Android that stay in step with each other.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. Norton 360’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
