Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.0

GPA, above 2 of the 21 other AI image and video generators we grade

Pictory turns a script, blog URL, PDF, PowerPoint or audio file into a scene-by-scene video built from Getty and Storyblocks stock footage, with captions and ElevenLabs voiceover. Its AI Studio adds generated images and short clips from models such as Veo 3.1, PixVerse and Nano Banana, and recorded videos can be edited by editing their transcript. Plans are counted in export minutes, with a separate allowance of AI credits for generated media.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Pictory, taken from its own pages and our grades.

Pasting a script or link gets a first cut, but scenes, templates and brand kits take some setting up.

The report card

Best for turning articles and slides into videos

Pictory turns a script, blog post, PDF or slide deck into a narrated video built from Getty and Storyblocks footage, and trims recordings by editing their transcript. That's handy for explainers and training. It's mostly stock footage, though: Starter's $25 a month buys only about 12.5 minutes of generated video a year.

ToolGPA report cardPictoryGraded Oct 17, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyDStarter is $25 a month on yearly billing ($29 monthly), the dearest start among its listed rivals: invideo at $10, Runway and LTX Studio at $12, Synthesia at $18 and HeyGen at $24. It buys 2,400 video minutes a year of stock-footage editing, but only about 12.5 minutes of generated video.
Free plan and trialCA 14-day trial with 15 video minutes, 50 AI credits and exports up to 720p. The listing doesn't say whether it needs a card.
FeaturesCScript, blog link, PDF or slides into a narrated video with stock footage, text-based editing of recordings, ElevenLabs voices and brand kits. It does that job fully, but it's a smaller one: generated footage is about 12.5 minutes a year on Starter.
Ease of useCNo app-store rating on record. Pasting a script or link gets a first cut, but scenes, templates and brand kits take some setting up.
Platforms and integrationsBWeb and a Chrome extension, with Zapier, Make, ElevenLabs, Getty and Storyblocks, and an API. No desktop or phone app.
Grade point averageFair, out of 4.02.0

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Pictory is for

  • Great if you want blog posts and slide decks turned into narrated videos
  • Handy when a training team turns out lots of explainer videos
  • Good for trimming long recordings into clips by editing the text

Who it is not for

  • Skip it if you want mostly AI-generated footage, as Starter makes about 12.5 minutes a year
  • Not for you if you might want a refund, as paid subscriptions aren't refunded
  • Pricey if you pay monthly, where Professional jumps from $35 to $59 and gives fewer AI credits

Good to know

Good for

  • Turning blog posts and slide decks into narrated videos
  • Training and course teams producing many explainer videos
  • Trimming long recordings into short clips by editing text

Worth knowing

  • Generated footage is limited: Starter's 1,200 yearly AI credits make about 12.5 minutes of AI video; most minutes are stock-footage edits.
  • Paid subscriptions are not refunded; cancelling only stops the next renewal.
  • Monthly billing gives fewer AI credits: Professional includes 500 a month when billed monthly against 12,000 a year when billed annually.
  • The trial exports at up to 720p and allows 15 video minutes.

Other AI image and video generators it is graded above

Pictory's GPA of 2.0 is higher than 2 of the 21 other AI image and video generators we grade, and level with 3.

It stands best on platforms and integrations (B, above 6 of 21) and worst on value for money (D, above 0).

Its paid plans start at $25 a month, against a middle price of $12 for the category: 15 of the 16 others that charge start lower.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace Pictory you would be making a video model, which you can rent by the second but not make. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 16 of the 21 other AI image and video generators grade higher. It costs $300 a year.

What you could make

  • Templates: an app builder makes this well.

What you could not

  • A video model, which you can rent by the second but not make.
  • An image model, which you can rent by the picture but not make.
  • A video editor.
  • Speech turned into text you can trust.
  • It plugs into other products, Zapier, Make and ElevenLabs among them, and has an API.
  • AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.

What this rests on. Pictory’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
