Best for students who want homework and grades together

Power Planner is a homework planner that also does the maths on your grades. Assignments, exams, your class schedule and your GPA sit in one place, on Windows, Mac, iPhone, Android and the web. It's free for one semester, and $4.99 once unlocks the rest for life. It won't pull anything in from Canvas or Blackboard, though.

Who Power Planner is for

  • Great if you want your grades and GPA worked out next to your homework list
  • Handy when you do homework on a Windows or Mac laptop and check it on your phone
  • Good for anyone who'd rather pay $4.99 once than subscribe to a school planner

Who Power Planner is not for

  • Skip it if your school runs on Canvas or Blackboard and you want work pulled in for you
  • Not for you if your timetable is a custom rotation, as only standard and Week A and B schedules work
  • Tight if you're staying free past your first term, since the free version holds 1 semester

Why Power Planner gets a 3.8

Five grades, each with its reason. The GPA is their average: an A is 4 points, an F is none.

  • AValue for moneyPremium is $4.99, once, for life. Buy it on one device and your account unlocks it on all the others. The typical planner charges about $8 every month.
  • BFree plan and trialFree with no ads, and sync, reminders and widgets are all in. But it stops at 1 semester and 5 grades per class. Come the second term, you'll need Premium.
  • AFeaturesAssignments and exams with checklists, a weekly class schedule with Week A and Week B, weighted grades, GPA across semesters and a What If? mode for future scores. That's the whole student job. Fully custom rotations aren't supported.
  • AEase of use4.8 from about 1,700 App Store ratings. The day-before and day-of reminders are switched on from the start, so it nudges you without any setup.
  • APlatforms and integrationsWindows, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Android and a web version, kept in step by a free account, with classes and homework showing in Google Calendar. The web version is still labelled a beta.

What is Power Planner?

Power Planner is a homework planner for high school and college students. It tracks assignments and exams against a class schedule, sends reminders before things are due, and calculates weighted grades and GPA across semesters. An optional online account syncs the planner between Windows, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Android and a web version in beta. The app is free without ads, and a one-time Premium purchase lifts the limits on semesters and on grades per class.

Power Planner has a free plan. Paid plans start at $4.99 one-time purchase (Premium, unlocks every platform). See every plan

Good for

  • Students who want grades and GPA worked out next to their homework list
  • Students who switch between a Windows or Mac computer and a phone
  • Anyone who would rather pay once than subscribe to a school planner

Worth knowing

  • The free version is limited to 1 semester and 5 grades per class, so tracking a second term needs the $4.99 Premium purchase.
  • The vendor's own comparison page says there is no Canvas or Blackboard integration.
  • Class schedules can be standard or alternate between Week A and Week B. The vendor says fully custom rotations are not supported.
  • The web version is labelled a beta on the vendor's platforms page.
