Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.0
GPA, above 13 of the 50 other link building tools we grade
Prezly is web-based PR software for in-house teams and agencies. Stories are published in a branded online newsroom, the team keeps its own media contacts and lists, and pitches go out as tracked email campaigns whose opens, clicks and resulting coverage are reported per story. It does not include a journalist database; you bring your own contacts.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Prezly, taken from its own pages and our grades.
There's a newsroom to brand, contacts to import and lists to build before the first pitch goes out.
- 1
Best for a branded newsroom and press pitching
Prezly gives a PR team a branded online newsroom, a contacts CRM and tracked email pitches with coverage tied to each story.
- 2

As its pricing page puts it: $120 per month, billed annually ($175 billed monthly).

- 5
Branded online newsroom
Publish press releases and multimedia stories in a newsroom under your own brand, with downloadable media kits and support for several languages.
- 6
Media contacts and lists
A PR CRM for the contacts you already have, with tags, notes and lists: 5,000 to 20,000 contacts depending on the plan.
- 7
Email pitching
Send personalized campaigns with a story attached to a media list. Sending from your own or a client's domain starts at Standard.
- 8
A 2.0 GPA, above 13 of 50
That is against the other link building tools we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

Keep it
To replace Prezly you would be making newsletters sent to thousands of people that still reach the inbox. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card
Best for a branded newsroom and press pitching
Prezly gives a PR team a branded online newsroom, a contacts CRM and tracked email pitches with coverage tied to each story. There's no journalist database, so you bring your own contacts, and Essential at $120 a month on yearly billing is one user with Prezly's branding and sending address.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | D | Essential is $120 a month billed yearly ($175 monthly) for one user, well above this category's middle of $49. Sending from your own domain and dropping Prezly's branding need Standard at $300. |
| Free plan and trial | C | No free plan, but a 14-day trial with no card needed. |
| Features | C | A branded newsroom, a contacts CRM, tracked email pitches, coverage reports and media monitoring. The gap matters for pitching: there's no journalist database, so you import your own contacts. |
| Ease of use | C | No rating on record. There's a newsroom to brand, contacts to import and lists to build before the first pitch goes out. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web only, with no desktop or phone app. It works with Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini through MCP (access on request), takes drafts from Google Docs and has an API for developers. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Prezly is for
- Fits if your team publishes its own press releases and already has a media list
- Works for PR agencies running newsrooms for several clients
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you need to find journalists, as there's no database and you import your own contacts
- Pricey if you want your own sending domain or no Prezly branding, as both start at Standard for $300 a month
- Tight if more than one person pitches, as Essential has a single user and extra seats aren't priced on the page
- Watch out: single sign-on and the uptime SLA are Enterprise only, prices exclude VAT, and the AI over MCP is given on request
Good to know
Good for
- In-house PR teams that publish their own press releases
- PR agencies running newsrooms and pitches for several clients
- Teams that keep their own media list rather than renting a database
Worth knowing
- There is no journalist database; you import your own contacts, and a curated media list service is arranged separately.
- Essential has one user and Prezly branding; white-label and own-domain sending start at Standard for $300 a month.
- Extra users can be added at a cost that depends on the plan, which the pricing page does not list.
- Single sign-on and the uptime SLA are limited to the custom-priced Enterprise plans; prices exclude VAT.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace Prezly you would be making newsletters sent to thousands of people that still reach the inbox. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 25 of the 50 other link building tools grade higher. It costs $1,440 a year.
What you could make
- Reports: an app builder makes this well.
What you could not
- Newsletters sent to thousands of people that still reach the inbox.
- It plugs into other products, Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini among them, and has an API.
- AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
What this rests on. Prezly’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
