Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.6

GPA, above 48 of the 123 other to-do list apps we grade

Reminder Notifications is an iPhone and iPad app from MaartenLabs that sends reminders as ordinary notifications instead of alarms. A reminder is given a name, a time and a repeat pattern from hourly to yearly, and a Home Screen widget shows what is coming up. The app is free to download, contains advertising according to its App Store listing, and syncs reminders between devices through iCloud.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Reminder Notifications, taken from its own pages and our grades.

Setting a reminder is the three steps the vendor advertises: name it, pick how often, choose the time.
From our grade for ease of use

The report card

Best for quiet repeating reminders on an iPhone

Reminder Notifications sends a quiet notification on a schedule, from hourly to yearly, and does nothing else: no lists, no snoozing, no alarm sound. It's free with ads, but it's iPhone and iPad only, English only, and neither Pro purchase, $0.99 or $1.99, says what it unlocks. Look elsewhere if you want a to-do list or a reminder you can't sleep through.

ToolGPA report cardReminder NotificationsGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyANo subscription at all, and the two Pro purchases are $0.99 and $1.99 once, against roughly $48 for a year on this category's middle plan. The catch is that neither the App Store nor the vendor says what either purchase unlocks.
Free plan and trialBThe free download covers the whole idea: recurring reminders, the Home Screen widget and iCloud sync. Two things to swallow, the advertising the App Store listing declares, and not knowing where free ends and Pro begins.
FeaturesDOne narrow function, and nothing around it. A reminder is a name, a time and a repeat pattern, delivered as a plain notification. No lists, no tasks, no snoozing, no sounds to choose, where rival reminder apps manage auto-snooze, pre-alarms and locations.
Ease of useA4.71 from 1,361 App Store ratings, which clears the bar for a top mark. Setting a reminder is the three steps the vendor advertises: name it, pick how often, choose the time.
Platforms and integrationsDOne operating system: iPhone and iPad, allowed on Apple silicon Macs as an unverified iPad app. No Android version linked, iCloud is the only connection, and English is the listing's only language.
Grade point averageGood, out of 4.02.6

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Reminder Notifications is for

  • Fits if you want a nudge for medication, bills or birthdays without an alarm going off
  • Works for iPhone and iPad users who want reminders in a Home Screen widget, with no subscription

Who it is not for

  • Skip it if you use Android, as it's iPhone and iPad only, and on a Mac it runs as an unverified iPad app
  • Not for you if you need a loud alarm you can't miss, since reminders arrive as ordinary notifications
  • Watch out: the free app shows ads, and neither Pro purchase, $0.99 or $1.99, says what it unlocks
  • Too light for a to-do list, with no lists, tasks, snoozing or choice of sounds
  • Not for you if you want the app in a language other than English, the only one listed

Good to know

Good for

  • Recurring reminders for medication, bills and birthdays
  • People who want a notification, not a loud alarm
  • iPhone and iPad users looking for a reminder app with no subscription

Worth knowing

  • iPhone and iPad only. The App Store allows it on Apple silicon Macs as an iPad app marked not verified for macOS, and the vendor links no Android version.
  • The App Store listing says the app contains advertising.
  • Two Pro in-app purchases, $0.99 and $1.99, are listed without a billing basis or a description of what they unlock.
  • English is the only language on the App Store listing.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Your call

A to-do list at its plainest is tasks with dates, repeats and a box to tick.

You could make the core of Reminder Notifications for yourself: tasks. What you would give up is listed below. Whether that is worth the price is your call.

What you could make

  • Tasks: an app builder makes this well.

What you could not

  • A real app for iOS. Something home-made would be a web page.
  • Hooks into the device itself: widgets.

What this rests on. Reminder Notifications’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
