Rippling
HR, IT and finance platform with US and global payroll, by quote

Rippling report card
Fair · out of 4.0 · graded Oct 17, 2026
Best for growing companies that want HR, IT and payroll as one
Rippling puts payroll on the same employee record as HR, benefits, expenses and IT, so a new hire or a pay rise flows through everything at once. It also pays people abroad. But you build it from modules and get a quote, so there's no way to see the price up front.
Who Rippling is for
- Great if you're tired of typing the same new hire into five different systems
- Handy when you have staff or contractors in more than one country
- Good for US venture-backed startups, which may get 6 months free
Who Rippling is not for
- Skip it if you want a published price, as payroll is quoted with a base fee it doesn't state
- Not for you if all you need is paychecks and tax filing, which simpler tools sell at a price on the page
- Tight if you're watching the bill, since payroll, benefits, time and expenses are each priced separately
Why Rippling gets a 2.4
Five grades, each with its reason. The GPA is their average: an A is 4 points, an F is none.
- CValue for moneyNo payroll price is published. Rippling says plans start at $8 an employee a month plus a base fee it doesn't state, so five people are at least $40 before that fee, and each module is priced on its own. Quote only.
- FFree plan and trialNo free plan or trial. Eligible US venture-backed startups can get 6 months free, but that's a program you qualify for, not a trial anyone can start.
- BFeaturesPayroll fed straight from HR records, pay-run comparisons, US taxes filed, global payroll, an employer-of-record service and contractor payments abroad, plus approval rules and workflows. The whole job, at home and abroad.
- AEase of use4.71 from about 16,600 App Store ratings. New hires and salary changes flow into payroll without retyping, though choosing and pricing the modules takes a sales call.
- BPlatforms and integrationsWeb, iPhone and Android, with Xero, QuickBooks and NetSuite among more than 650 integrations. No desktop app, which keeps it off an A.

Keep Rippling, or make your own?
Keep it
To replace Rippling you would be making payroll taxes worked out and filed with the government for you. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
What you could make
- Time tracking and expense tracking: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- Payroll taxes worked out and filed with the government for you.
- Connections to other products, each kept working as those products change.
- A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
- AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
- What a company asks for before it lets staff use something: roles and permissions.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. Rippling’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
What is Rippling?
Rippling is a workforce platform whose modules, from HR records and payroll to benefits, time tracking, expenses and IT, share one employee database. Its payroll files federal, state and local taxes in the US, and Global Payroll, an employer-of-record service and a PEO cover other set-ups. Each company picks its modules and gets a quote.

- Growing companies that want HR, payroll and IT in one system

Worth knowing
- No payroll price is published: Rippling says plans start at $8 per employee a month plus a base fee it does not state, and quotes the rest.

- It runs US payroll and pays people abroad through Global Payroll and its EOR; the pages read give no list or count of countries.
