Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.4

GPA, above 8 of the 43 other habit trackers we grade

Routinery is a routine planner and habit tracker for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac and Android. Habits are stacked into a routine with a fixed order, and when the routine runs each step gets its own timer while a voice announces what comes next. The free plan covers 2 routines and shows ads; Premium, sold as a subscription or as a lifetime purchase, lifts the routine cap and removes the ads.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Routinery, taken from its own pages and our grades.

The App Store lists two prices each for monthly and yearly, and you build every routine before it runs.
From our report card of Routinery
  1. 1

Best for routines read out to you step by step

Routinery stacks habits into a routine and runs it, with a timer on each step and a voice reading out the next.

  2. 2

Paid plans start at $3 a month when paid by the year

As its pricing page puts it: $5.00 to $5.49 per month, or $36.00 to $39.49 per year (US App Store).

  3. 3

    There is a free plan

2 routines with no account needed, including timers, voice guidance, reminders and the MCP connection to AI assistants. The free plan shows ads.

  4. 4

    It runs on 3 platforms

    iOS, macOS and Android.

  5. 5

    Step-by-step routine timer

Each step of a routine runs on its own timer and a voice reads out the next one, so the routine carries on while the phone is out of sight. Timers can be stretched and steps skipped or reordered mid-run.

  6. 6

    Scheduled routines and quick starts

Set the weekdays and time for a routine and a reminder arrives then. Routines can also be started from home and lock screen widgets, a start link, or Siri Shortcuts on iOS.

  7. 7

    Tasks, Anytime list and timeline

One-off tasks get a timer too, tasks you cannot face yet can be parked in Anytime, and the day can be viewed as a list, a calendar or a timeline.

  8. 8

    A 2.4 GPA, above 8 of 43

That is against the other habit trackers we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

The report card

Best for routines read out to you step by step

Routinery stacks habits into a routine and runs it, with a timer on each step and a voice reading out the next. But free stops at 2 routines with ads, a lapsed subscription deactivates all but two, there's no web version, export button or Apple Health sync, and the Mac app is an unverified iPad port. The App Store lists two prices each for monthly and yearly, and you build every routine before it runs.

ToolGPA report cardRoutineryGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyCA year is $36.00 or $39.49, depending on which price the app shows you, so about $3 a month against this category's $3.33 middle. Ordinary, in other words. Lifetime is $71.99, nearly two years of that, and it's shown as half off a crossed-out $143.99 with no end date.
Free plan and trialCTwo routines free, with the step timers, the voice, reminders and even the MCP connection, and no account needed. Two is a wall for anyone with a morning and a bedtime and a workout, there are ads, and if a subscription lapses everything above the free two is deactivated.
FeaturesBPer-step timers with a voice reading the next one, steps you can stretch, skip or reorder mid-run, scheduled routines with widgets and Siri starts, one-off tasks, an Anytime list, a timeline, streaks, statistics, mood and shared routines. There's no Apple Health or calendar sync.
Ease of useCNo store rating on record, and the work is up front: you build the routine yourself, stacking the steps in order and putting a timer on each, before it can walk you through anything. Once it's built, the voice means you never look at the screen.
Platforms and integrationsBiPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Android, plus an MCP server that lets ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor and Gemini CLI read and edit your routines, free of charge. No web version, and the Mac app is really the iPad app, marked not verified for macOS and needing an M1 chip.
Grade point averageFair, out of 4.02.4

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Routinery is for

  • Fits if you know what to do but can't get started, since the timer and the voice carry you through
  • Works for routines with a fixed order, like mornings, bedtimes and workouts

Who it is not for

  • Tight if you're staying free and need more than 2 routines, and the free plan shows ads
  • Skip it if you want your routines in a browser or on Windows, as there's no web version
  • Not for you if you want your data in a file, as there's no export button, only the MCP connection
  • Watch out: let a subscription lapse and every routine above the free two is deactivated
  • Watch out: the App Store lists two monthly and two yearly prices, and Lifetime's half-off has no end date

Good to know

Good for

  • People who know what to do but find it hard to start or lose track of time
  • Fixed-order routines such as mornings, bedtimes, study blocks and workouts
  • Adults with ADHD who want every step timed and announced aloud
  • Managing routines by conversation from ChatGPT or Claude

Worth knowing

  • The free plan stops at 2 routines and shows ads. When a subscription lapses, all but the free routines are deactivated.
  • There is no web version, no direct sync with Apple Health or calendars, and no export button; data is pulled out through the MCP connection.
  • The Mac version is the iPad app: the App Store marks it as designed for iPad and not verified for macOS, and it needs an Apple M1 chip or later.
  • The US App Store shows two prices each for monthly and yearly Premium, so the amount charged in the app may differ from either.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

The plain part of Routinery you could make: habit tracking, Pomodoro timer, tasks and mood tracking. What surrounds it you could not. The 6 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.

That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 25 of the 43 other habit trackers grade higher. It costs $36 a year.

What you could make

  • Habit tracking, Pomodoro timer, tasks and mood tracking: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • Apps for macOS, iOS and Android that stay in step with each other.
  • It plugs into other products, ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini among them.
  • AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
  • Hooks into the device itself: an Apple Watch app, widgets, Siri and Shortcuts.
  • Sharing with other people, which means accounts and invitations.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. Routinery’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
