Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.4
GPA, above 22 of the 147 other note-taking apps we grade
Saga is a workspace for notes, documents and tasks with a built-in AI assistant. Pages link to each other automatically, tasks written inside notes are gathered into a single table or kanban board, and teams edit together in real time. It runs in a browser and as Mac and Windows apps, with no dedicated mobile app so far. The free plan covers up to 3 members per workspace.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Saga, taken from its own pages and our grades.
There's no phone app, only the mobile browser, the integration list is Google Drive and Linear, and the Business plan is still a waitlist.
- 1
Best for notes, docs and tasks in one workspace for a small team
Saga puts notes, docs and tasks in one workspace, links pages as you type, and has an AI assistant.

There is a free plan
Unlimited pages and tasks, up to 3 members per workspace, 5,000 Saga AI words a month, 7 days of version history, 1 integration, 10 guests and 250 MB of file storage.

The report card
Best for notes, docs and tasks in one workspace for a small team
Saga puts notes, docs and tasks in one workspace, links pages as you type, and has an AI assistant. The free plan covers unlimited pages and tasks for up to 3 members, with 7 days of version history and 250 MB of files. There's no phone app, only the mobile browser, the integration list is Google Drive and Linear, and the Business plan is still a waitlist. Skip it if you take notes on your phone.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | Standard is $6 a member a month billed annually, or $8 monthly, which is exactly the middle of this category. It takes the caps off members, AI and version history and adds both integrations and 5 GB for files. Ordinary money for an ordinary amount. |
| Free plan and trial | B | Unlimited pages and tasks, free, for up to 3 members a workspace, plus 5,000 Saga AI words a month and 10 guests. A small team could live on that. The caps you'd notice are 7 days of version history and 250 MB of file storage. |
| Features | C | A block editor with tables, embeds and equations, links that make themselves, tasks inside notes collected into a table or kanban, AI that drafts and translates, and real-time editing. But the listing names a gap that matters for notes: no phone app, only the mobile browser, with one promised on the roadmap. |
| Ease of use | B | No rating on record, so we go by the listing: sign up in a browser and start writing, with nothing to configure. Saga spots what you type and cross-references it with pages you already have, so you're not linking by hand. |
| Platforms and integrations | C | Computers only: a browser, plus Mac and Windows apps. There's no phone app at all, and the integration list is two items long, Google Drive and Linear, with the unlimited-integration plan still on a waitlist. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Saga is for
- Fits if you're a team of 3 or fewer and want notes, docs and tasks in one free workspace
- Works for teams whose files and issues already live in Google Drive or Linear
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you take notes on your phone, as there's no mobile app yet, only the mobile browser
- Tight if you're staying free, since Free stops at 3 members, 7 days of version history and 250 MB of files
- Not for you if you need it wired into lots of other tools, because there are only two integrations and Free gets 1
- Watch out: the $12 Business plan with AI search is marked coming soon and only takes waitlist sign-ups
- Watch out: paid plans charge per member for each workspace, and Saga AI on them has a fair-usage policy
Good to know
Good for
- Small teams keeping notes, docs and tasks in one workspace

- The Business plan, with AI search across tools and the web, is marked as coming soon and takes waitlist sign-ups only.
- Paid plans are charged per member for each workspace, and Saga AI on them is subject to a fair-usage policy.

Part 04 · Standing
Where it stands
Its grades against its category, and whether to keep it or make your own
22/147
Other note-taking apps it is graded above
Saga's GPA of 2.4 is higher than 22 of the 147 other note-taking apps we grade, and level with 27.
It stands best on free plan and trial (B, above 71 of 147) and worst on features (C, above 2).

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
The plain part of Saga you could make: notes, documents, tasks, kanban boards and linked notes. What surrounds it you could not. The 3 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 98 of the 147 other note-taking apps grade higher. It costs $72 a year.
What you could make
- Notes, documents, tasks, kanban boards and linked notes: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- A real app for macOS and Windows. Something home-made would be a web page.
- Several people working in it at the same moment.
- AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
What this rests on. Saga’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
