2.6
GPA, above 56 of the 83 other technical SEO tools we grade
Schemantra is a free web app, marked as a beta, for writing schema.org markup in JSON-LD without code. It covers the whole schema.org vocabulary, about 1,350 types and 1,450 properties, and lets you nest related entities as sub-schemas to build a knowledge graph of a page, shown as a diagram. Markup is copied from the app and added to pages by hand or through a tag manager.
To get you started, here are 8 things to know about Schemantra, taken from its own pages and our grades.
You sign in and build each schema field by field, and nesting sub-schemas means knowing how schema.org types relate.

The report card
Best for free JSON-LD for any schema.org type
Schemantra is a free web app for writing schema.org markup of any type, with linked sub-schemas and a diagram of how a page's entities connect. It's still labeled a beta, the footer reads 2022 and the newest posts are from March 2024, it doesn't test or deploy anything, and you add the JSON-LD by hand. If you want markup checked or kept up for you, look elsewhere.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | A | Free: an account builds, saves and draws markup for any schema.org type, and the site shows no paid plan. Custom ontology work is a separate service with no prices shown. |
| Free plan and trial | A | Free outright, with no limits stated. You need an account to create and save schemas. |
| Features | D | One narrow job: writing JSON-LD across the full schema.org vocabulary, 1,353 types and 1,448 properties, with sub-schemas and a graph view. It doesn't test markup, add it to pages or watch it afterward. |
| Ease of use | C | No rating on record. You sign in and build each schema field by field, and nesting sub-schemas means knowing how schema.org types relate. There's a free course and step-by-step guides. |
| Platforms and integrations | C | Web only, with no integrations or API on record. Markup leaves the app by copy and paste, or through a tag manager you set up. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Schemantra is for
- Fits if you need a schema.org type that Google's rich result tools don't cover
- Works for mapping how the entities on a page relate before you write the markup
Who it is not for
- Watch out: it's still labeled a beta, the footer copyright reads 2022 and the newest blog posts are from March 2024
- Not for you if you want markup tested, as it only writes it
- Too light for sites that need markup added and monitored, as you paste it in yourself and nothing is checked later
- Skip it if you don't want an account, which is needed to create and save schemas
Good to know
Good for
- SEOs who need schema.org types that simpler generators leave out
- Describing how the people, places and products on a page relate to each other
- Learning structured data from worked examples
Worth knowing
- It is labeled as a beta; the footer copyright reads 2022 and the newest blog posts date from March 2024.
- It only writes markup: you add the JSON-LD to your pages yourself or through a tag manager, and nothing is monitored afterward.
- An account is needed to create and save schemas.
- Custom ontology building is offered as a service, with no prices shown.
