Which one is for you

Pick Schema.dev if

  • Fits if you mark up a handful of pages and can paste JSON-LD into your CMS
  • Works for checking what structured data a page already has

Look elsewhere if

  • Skip it if you don't use Chrome, as it's a Chrome extension only
  • Too light for whole sites, as markup is built page by page and the Deployer isn't out
  • Watch out: the extension's latest version, 0.80.1, is from March 2025, and the site's newest blog posts are from 2020
  • Tight if you want the Schema Tester or its API, which sit in a beta behind a sign-up
  • Not for you if you want the markup added for you, as you copy and paste it yourself

Pick Schemantra if

  • Fits if you need a schema.org type that Google's rich result tools don't cover
  • Works for mapping how the entities on a page relate before you write the markup

Look elsewhere if

  • Watch out: it's still labeled a beta, the footer copyright reads 2022 and the newest blog posts are from March 2024
  • Not for you if you want markup tested, as it only writes it
  • Too light for sites that need markup added and monitored, as you paste it in yourself and nothing is checked later
  • Skip it if you don't want an account, which is needed to create and save schemas

    How this page was made

    • The verdict at the top follows a fixed rule. When both tools are in the same category and either is in our top three for it, the verdict follows that ranking: the higher-placed tool is our pick. The top three weigh who each tool suits as well as its grades, so a pick can go against the GPA. Otherwise the page does not pick one and says which grades higher: the higher GPA first; on a tie, the one with a free plan, then the one that starts cheaper in dollars a month, counted the same way for both; if they are still level, what the choice depends on.
    • The grades are our own, from each tool’s review or report card. The GPA is their average.
    • Prices, plans and platforms come from each tool’s listing. The table above says where each price was read and when.
    • The differences and the answers to the questions are worked out from those listings.
