Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
3.2
GPA, above 34 of the 34 other SEO browser extensions we grade
SEOquake is a free browser extension from Semrush that audits the page you are viewing and shows Semrush traffic and backlink figures as you browse. It can lay position numbers and metrics under each Google result, list the pages that AI Overviews cite, and report on a page's links and keyword density. A free Semrush account unlocks more metrics, such as Authority Score and referring domains.
To get you started, here are 7 things to know about SEOquake, taken from its own pages and our grades.
No rating on record, but nothing to set up: Quick View works on the first page you open, with no account.
- 1
Best for Semrush figures on Google results and pages
SEOquake audits the page you're on and lays Semrush traffic and backlink figures under each Google result, including the pages an AI Overview cites, for free.
- 2
It is free
SEOquake has no paid plan at all. The extension is free and its core reports work without an account; connecting a free Semrush account adds Authority Score, referring domains and Traffic Analytics.
- 3
Quick View and page audit
Shows the title, meta description, headings, canonical, indexability and word count, then audits content, mobile and technical issues such as hreflang and alt text.
- 4
SERP Overlay
Puts position numbers and Semrush metrics under each organic Google result, in the country and language you pick, with CSV export.
- 5
AI Overview sources
Shows which pages a Google AI Overview cites and compares them by Semrush traffic and backlink figures.
- 6
A 3.2 GPA, above 34 of 34
That is against the other SEO browser extensions we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.
- 7
Keep it
SEOquake is free, so making your own would save you nothing.

The report card
Best for Semrush figures on Google results and pages
SEOquake audits the page you're on and lays Semrush traffic and backlink figures under each Google result, including the pages an AI Overview cites, for free. Those figures are Semrush estimates rather than your own analytics, the deeper ones need a free Semrush sign-in, and the Firefox version hasn't been updated since December 2022.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | A | Free from Semrush, with no paid tier for the extension. Core reports and the built-in Semrush figures work with no account at all. |
| Free plan and trial | A | Free outright. Authority Score, referring domains and Traffic Analytics need a Semrush account, but a free one is enough. |
| Features | B | Title, meta, headings, canonical and indexability with an audit, Semrush figures under every Google result in any country, AI Overview sources, links with follow status and HTTP codes, keyword density and domain comparison. That covers the whole job here. |
| Ease of use | B | No rating on record, but nothing to set up: Quick View works on the first page you open, with no account. |
| Platforms and integrations | C | Chrome and Firefox, so computers only, and the Firefox version lags far behind. It works on Google Search and draws on Semrush, and nothing else is listed. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who SEOquake is for
- Fits if you check a rival's traffic and backlink figures while you browse
- Works for reading Semrush figures for every result on a Google search page
Who it is not for
- Watch out: the traffic and backlink figures are Semrush estimates, not data from your own analytics
- Skip it if you use Firefox, where the version is 3.9.9 from December 2022 against 4.3.0 on Chrome
- Tight if you won't make a Semrush account, as Authority Score, referring domains and Traffic Analytics need one
- Not for you if you want the interface in a language other than English
Good to know
Good for
- Checking a rival's traffic and backlink figures while browsing
- Reading Semrush metrics for every result on a Google search page
- Seeing which pages Google's AI Overviews cite for a query
Worth knowing
- Authority Score, referring domains and Traffic Analytics need a Semrush account, though a free one is enough.
- The Firefox version is much older: 3.9.9, last updated in December 2022, against 4.3.0 on Chrome in October 2026.
- Its traffic and backlink figures are Semrush estimates, not data from your own analytics.
- The Chrome Web Store lists the interface in English only.

Keep it
SEOquake is free, so making your own would save you nothing.
And it is not the kind of software a weekend replaces. It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 3.2 is higher than 34 of the 34 other SEO browser extensions we grade.
What you could not
- An index of the links between billions of web pages.
- A crawler that checks every page of a site.
- The same prompts asked of ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google's AI answers every day, and the answers kept.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. SEOquake’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
