Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

3.0

GPA, above 41 of the 51 other email apps we grade

Spark is an email app for Mac, Windows, iOS and Android that pulls Google, Outlook, iCloud, Yahoo, Exchange and IMAP accounts into one inbox. It sorts personal mail apart from newsletters and notifications and adds snooze, send later and reminders on the free plan. Paid plans add sender screening, AI writing and search, and team features such as shared threads, private comments and shared inboxes.

To get you started, here are 10 things to know about Spark Mail, taken from its own pages and our grades.

Add your accounts and the Smart Inbox does the sorting itself, with snooze and send later there from the start.
From our grade for ease of use

+AI drafts, proofreads, summarizes and translates email. The AI Assistant answers questions about your mail, reaching back 1 month on Free, 1 year on Plus and without limit on Pro.

    Refunds: 30 days

Buy Spark direct and you have 30 days to change your mind and get the whole fee back. That is more than most email apps offer.

The report card

Best for one inbox for all your email accounts

Spark puts Gmail, Outlook, iCloud and Yahoo accounts in one inbox and sorts people from newsletters, with snooze, send later and reminders on the free plan. Gatekeeper, the AI and integrations need Plus at $8.25 a month yearly, shared inboxes need Pro at $16.58, and the free AI stops at 5 meeting notes in total. There's no web or Linux version.

SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyCPlus is $8.25 a user a month billed annually ($99), or $10 monthly, which is dead on this category's middle, and it's what unlocks Gatekeeper, Priority, the AI and the integrations. Shared inboxes need Pro at $16.58, double that again.
Free plan and trialAUnlimited email accounts in one Smart Inbox, with snooze, send later, reminders and a calendar, free for good and with no cap on any of it. The AI is the only taster: 5 meeting notes in total and 1 month of history for the Assistant.
FeaturesBA unified Smart Inbox that keeps people apart from newsletters, Gatekeeper to screen new senders, AI that drafts, proofreads, summarises and translates, a calendar with meeting notes, and threads a team can comment on and draft together. The mail job is covered.
Ease of useB4.6 from about 82,600 App Store ratings, just under our 4.7 bar for the top mark. Add your accounts and the Smart Inbox does the sorting itself, with snooze and send later there from the start.
Platforms and integrationsBMac, Windows, iPhone and Android, taking Google, Outlook, iCloud, Yahoo, Exchange and IMAP accounts, and paid plans plug into Todoist, Asana, Trello, Notion, Slack and Zoom. No web version at all, though, and nothing for Linux.
Grade point averageVery good, out of 4.03.0

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Spark Mail is for

  • Fits if you juggle several email accounts and want them in one inbox on desktop and phone
  • Works for anyone who wants snooze and send later without paying

Who it is not for

  • Skip it if you need email in a browser or on Linux, as there's no version for either
  • Not for you if you want AI drafting for free, because Spark +AI needs Plus or higher
  • Pricey if you only need a shared support@ inbox, since that sits on Pro at $16.58 a user
  • Tight if you lean on the free AI: 5 meeting notes in total and 1 month of history for the Assistant
  • Watch out: the 7-day trial applies only when you subscribe in the app, and monthly billing costs 17% more

Good to know

Good for

  • People juggling several email accounts across desktop and phone
  • Individuals who want a free client with a unified inbox and send later
  • Small teams that want to comment on emails and draft replies together

Worth knowing

  • The vendor lists apps for Mac, Windows, iOS and Android only; there is no web or Linux version.
  • Gatekeeper, Priority, Spark +AI and third-party integrations require Plus or higher.
  • Shared inboxes, read statuses and the HubSpot integration are limited to Pro and Enterprise.
  • The free plan's AI is a limited preview: 5 meeting notes in total and 1 month of email history for the AI Assistant.

Its grades against its category, and whether to keep it or make your own

41/51

Other email apps it is graded above

Spark Mail's GPA of 3.0 is higher than 41 of the 51 other email apps we grade, and level with 5.

It stands best on free plan and trial (A, above 42 of 51) and worst on value for money (C, above 11).

Its paid plans start at $8.25 a month for each person, against a middle price of $4.99 for the category: 30 of the 45 others that charge start lower.

On features, ease of use and platforms it scores 3.0 out of 4. 4 tools score higher and cost less.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace Spark Mail you would be making an email client: sending, receiving, threading and searching years of mail. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 3.0 is higher than 41 of the 51 other email apps we grade. It costs $99 a year.

What you could make

  • Calendar and templates: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • An email client: sending, receiving, threading and searching years of mail.
  • One mailbox that several people work at once.
  • A bot that joins your calls and turns the talk into notes.
  • Apps for macOS, Windows, iOS and Android that stay in step with each other.
  • Several people working in it at the same moment.
  • It plugs into other products, Todoist, Asana and Trello among them.
  • AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. Spark Mail’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.

What happens once you have paid: whether you can get your money back, how to leave, and how to reach a person when something goes wrong. Each is graded from Spark Mail’s own terms and help pages.

Refunds and cancelling

BGrade

Good · checked Oct 18, 2026

Buy Spark direct and you have 30 days to change your mind and get the whole fee back. That is more than most email apps offer. It falls short of an A because the refund is not a button you press: you have to write in and ask, the 30 days run from the purchase date, and if you bought through the App Store or Google Play it is their decision, not Spark's. Team subscriptions get nothing back at all. Cancelling itself is quick and the account survives.

Refund window
30 days
How you cancel
Yourself, in settings
Getting your money back

The terms say an individual subscription bought through Stripe may be cancelled and refunded within 30 calendar days of the purchase date, that you request it by contacting Spark, and that it refunds the full fee by the same payment method. After the 30 days nothing comes back unless the law says so. App Store and Google Play purchases are refunded by those stores, and business subscriptions are non-refundable.

Stated on sparkmailapp.com
How to cancel Spark Mail

For a subscription started on the desktop or the website you open Spark Settings, click your email address at the top of the sidebar, click Manage next to the subscription and cancel. The help article points subscriptions started on iPhone, iPad, Android or Huawei to those platforms. The terms add that a Teams owner cancels in the team settings or writes to Spark at least five business days before the period ends.

  1. Open Spark Settings
  2. Click your email address at the top of the sidebar
  3. Click the Manage button next to the subscription name
  4. Cancel your subscription
Stated on sparkmailapp.com
What you keep afterwards

The help article says the subscription runs until its expiration date after you cancel. The terms add that cancelling does not close the account and that you keep the app's free features once the paid period ends. For Teams, fees are prorated by the number of active users, so the balance is either charged or refunded to the Spark account.

Stated on sparkmailapp.com
Renewals

The terms say a subscription renews automatically at the then-current rate unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the billing date, and the same 24 hours applies to ending a free trial. Deleting the app cancels nothing. Deleting the account cancels a Stripe subscription, but an App Store or Google Play subscription has to be cancelled there by hand. No reminder before a renewal is mentioned.

Stated on sparkmailapp.com

In your favour

  • Thirty days for a full refund if you bought the individual plan direct through Stripe.
  • You cancel yourself in Spark's settings, in four clicks.
  • Cancelling leaves the account alone: you drop to the free version and keep your mail.
  • Teams fees are prorated by active users, so a leaver's share comes back as credit.

Watch out for

  • You have to write in for the refund. Nothing refunds itself.
  • Bought it in the App Store or on Google Play? That store decides, not Spark.
  • Business subscriptions are non-refundable, full stop.
  • Cancel at least 24 hours before the billing date or the next period is charged.

Customer support

CGrade

Ordinary · checked Oct 18, 2026

The knowledge base is the strong part: dozens of articles, organised by subject, with the billing ones written plainly. Beyond that it is a chatbot on the help site and an address to write to. Paid plans are promised faster replies, but no page says how fast, or when anyone is working. That is where most apps sit, so a C.

Ways to get help

  • Email

The cancellation article gives a support address to write to if you have questions or trouble with a subscription, and the terms give a separate billing address for Teams cancellations.

    Stated on sparkmailapp.com
  • Contact form or ticket

A Contact us button at the top of the help centre opens a messenger, and the cancellation article tells anyone who did not find an answer to get in touch through the chatbot. No page read says a person answers it first.

    Stated on sparkmailapp.com
  • Help centre

A large knowledge base covering the apps on each platform, settings, the AI features, privacy and a billing and subscription section with articles on the plans, cancelling a trial and cancelling a subscription.

    Stated on sparkmailapp.com

Not listed on Spark Mail’s pages: live chat, phone.

When people answer

Its pages do not say.

How fast it says it replies

What depends on your plan

The pricing table's support section has two rows. Self-service support is ticked in every column. Priority support, described as faster responses to your enquiries, is unticked for Free and ticked for the paid plans. Neither row puts a number on the wait.

Stated on sparkmailapp.com

In your favour

  • The knowledge base is detailed and the billing articles answer the hard questions.
  • Free users can write in too: self-service support is ticked on every plan.
  • Paying moves you into the priority queue for faster replies.

Watch out for

  • No hours and no reply time are stated anywhere we could read.
  • The first thing you meet when contacting support is a chatbot.
  • Priority support promises faster replies without saying faster than what.

What these two grades rest on. Read on 18 October 2026: Spark's terms of service with its payment, renewal, cancellation and refund sections, its knowledge-base articles on the subscription plans and on cancelling a subscription, the help centre's front page and the pricing page's support rows. Nobody here cancelled a plan or contacted its support. They are graded apart from the five that make the GPA. How we grade refunds and support.
