Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.4

GPA, above 18 of the 65 other focus apps we grade

StudyStream hosts live video study rooms that stay open 24 hours a day, where students and other people work on camera alongside strangers from around the world. Its web and mobile apps add Pomodoro timers, task tracking, streaks, pinned study partners and AI tools for notes and quizzes. It is free to use, with Basic and Premium subscriptions sold inside the apps.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about StudyStream, taken from its own pages and our grades.

Two Focus Rooms open straight from the site; the Do Anything room wants a sign-up first.
From our grade for ease of use
  1. 1

Best for studying on camera next to other people, at any hour

StudyStream runs video rooms open 24 hours a day where you study on camera beside strangers doing the same, with Pomodoro timers, a task list and streaks built in.

  2. 2

As its pricing page puts it: $1.99 / month (US App Store; several amounts listed).

  3. 3

    There is a free plan

Free to use: the store listings call it a free study app with premium features, and the site's focus rooms are open to join. What the paid tiers add is not published.

  4. 4

    It runs on 3 platforms

    Web, iOS and Android.

  5. 5

    Live focus rooms

Video rooms where people study on camera together, open 24 hours a day. The site lists two Focus Rooms anyone can join and a Do Anything room that requires signing up.

  6. 6

    Pomodoro timers and task tracking

Built-in study Pomodoro timers, several focus modes and a task list for working through what you planned in a session.

    Keep it

To replace StudyStream you would be making video calls. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card

Best for studying on camera next to other people, at any hour

StudyStream runs video rooms open 24 hours a day where you study on camera beside strangers doing the same, with Pomodoro timers, a task list and streaks built in. Joining is free. But nobody says what the paid tiers add, the store lists Basic at both $1.99 and $3.99, the apps carry ads, it blocks nothing, and it's for people 16 and over.

ToolGPA report cardStudyStreamGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyBBasic starts at $1.99 a month on the US App Store, under the $2.99 where this category's cheaper quarter begins. Premium is $6.99, or $69.99 a year. It stops short of an A because neither the site nor the stores say what either tier adds.
Free plan and trialCThe focus rooms are free to join, but the vendor never publishes where free stops, so you can't tell what you'd be living without. The Android app carries ads and the App Store listing notes advertising too.
FeaturesCIt does the studying-together job fully: round-the-clock rooms, Pomodoro timers, tasks, streaks, pinned partners, plus AI notes and quizzes. But that's a smaller job than the category's. Nothing here blocks a site, caps an app or tracks your screen time.
Ease of useC4.4 from about 382 App Store ratings, mid-table. Two Focus Rooms open straight from the site; the Do Anything room wants a sign-up first.
Platforms and integrationsBWeb plus both phones, so it follows you from laptop to phone. No desktop app, no integrations and no API are listed, and the iOS app is built for iPhone only.
Grade point averageFair, out of 4.02.4

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who StudyStream is for

  • Fits if you study with other people around, even strangers on camera
  • Works for people revising at odd hours who want a room that's still open

Who it is not for

  • Skip it if being on camera with strangers would put you off your work
  • Not for you if you're under 16, as it's limited to people aged 16 and over
  • Not for you if you want sites and apps blocked, because it does none of that
  • Watch out: no one says what Basic or Premium add, and Basic shows at both $1.99 and $3.99 a month
  • Watch out: the apps carry ads, there's no desktop app, and the iOS app is for iPhone only

Good to know

Good for

  • Students who study better alongside other people on camera
  • Anyone who wants a study room that is open at any hour
  • Exam preparation with Pomodoro timers and task tracking

Worth knowing

  • The vendor's website has no pricing page; the prices come from the US App Store, which lists Basic Monthly at both $1.99 and $3.99.
  • Neither the site nor the store listings say what Basic and Premium add to the free version.
  • The Google Play listing says the Android app contains ads, and the App Store listing notes advertising too.
  • Use is limited to people aged 16 and over, and the iOS app is designed for iPhone only.

Part 04 · Standing

Where it stands

Its grades against its category, and whether to keep it or make your own

18/65

Other focus apps it is graded above

StudyStream's GPA of 2.4 is higher than 18 of the 65 other focus apps we grade, and level with 11.

It stands best on platforms and integrations (B, above 39 of 65) and worst on ease of use (C, above 0).

Its paid plans start at $1.99 a month, against a middle price of $2.82 for the category: 11 of the 45 others that charge start lower.

On features, ease of use and platforms it scores 2.3 out of 4. 12 tools score higher and cost less.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace StudyStream you would be making video calls. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 36 of the 65 other focus apps grade higher. It costs $23.88 a year.

What you could make

  • Pomodoro timer and tasks: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • Video calls.
  • A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
  • AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.

What this rests on. StudyStream’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
