Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.4
GPA, above 22 of the 147 other note-taking apps we grade
Sublime is a personal library for things worth keeping: links, highlights, articles, images, videos, PDFs, podcasts and your own text, each saved as a card. Cards are grouped into collections that can be kept private or shared, and each one surfaces related ideas that other people have saved. Capture runs through a web app, a browser extension and an iOS app, and an infinite whiteboard called Canvas is there for laying saved material out.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Sublime, taken from its own pages and our grades.
If you capture on Android, look elsewhere.
- 1
Best for a library of saved links, highlights and ideas
Sublime saves links, highlights, articles, images, PDFs and your own notes as cards, and shows related cards other people have saved.
- 2
Paid plans start at $6.25 a month when paid by the year
As its pricing page puts it: $75 per year.
- 3
There is a free plan
Basic plan: free, with limited cards, collections and canvases, limited privacy and collaboration, and limited related cards, search, summaries and integrations. The page gives no figures.
- 4
It runs on 2 platforms
Web and iOS, with a browser extension too.
- 5
Cards for any kind of content
Websites, articles, highlights, images, videos, PDFs, podcasts, books, social posts and plain text are each saved as a card in one library.
- 6
Browser extension and highlighter
The extension saves images, articles and videos, highlights text on web pages and PDFs, and captures screenshots. It is offered for Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Arc, Brave and Opera.
- 7
Collections, private or public
Cards are organized into collections that can stay private or be shared. Other people's libraries can be followed, with no likes or comments.
- 8
A 2.4 GPA, above 22 of 147
That is against the other note-taking apps we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.
- 9
Keep it
To replace Sublime you would be making a search engine with an AI model behind it. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card
Best for a library of saved links, highlights and ideas
Sublime saves links, highlights, articles, images, PDFs and your own notes as cards, and shows related cards other people have saved. The free plan's limits aren't given as numbers anywhere, paid plans are $75 a year with no monthly option, the Kindle, X, Instagram, Readwise and Raycast links are paid, and there's no Android or desktop app. If you capture on Android, look elsewhere.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | Premium is $75 a year, which is $6.25 a month, so right on the $6 middle of this category. It's yearly or nothing, as the pricing page shows no monthly option. Premium+ at $100 adds events and a Substack membership, and lifetime is $400. |
| Free plan and trial | C | There's a free basic plan and you will hit its limits, but nobody will tell you where they are: the pricing page calls cards, collections, canvases, search and summaries limited and gives no figures at all. Advanced privacy and the Kindle, X, Instagram and Readwise links are paid. |
| Features | C | It does the saving job fully: cards for websites, highlights, images, videos, PDFs and podcasts, an extension that highlights pages and takes screenshots, search on half-remembered details, and a Canvas to lay cards out. But collecting is a smaller job than note-taking, and there's no Android app to capture on. |
| Ease of use | B | No rating on record, so we go by the listing: content is categorised for you, so you save first and sort later, or never. There's nothing to configure before the first save. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web, an iOS app and an extension for Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Arc, Brave and Opera, with Kindle, Readwise, X, Instagram, Raycast and MCP access to Claude on paid plans. No Android app, and no desktop app either, which is what an A wants. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Sublime is for
- Fits if you collect references across links, images, PDFs and podcasts in one place
- Works for people who want to browse what others saved on the same theme
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you're on Android, as no app is listed for it, and there's no desktop app either
- Not for you if you want the free limits spelled out, because the pricing page gives no numbers
- Pricey if you'd rather pay by the month, since it's $75 for the year or nothing
- Tight if you want Kindle, Readwise, X, Instagram or Raycast imports for free, as those and advanced privacy are on paid plans
Good to know
Good for
- Writers and designers collecting references across many media types
- People who want to browse what others have saved on a theme
- Bringing Kindle, Readwise, X and Instagram saves into one library
Worth knowing
- The basic plan is described only as limited: the pricing page gives no numbers for cards, collections, canvases or search.
- Paid plans are billed yearly ($75 or $100) or once ($400); the pricing page shows no monthly option.
- Advanced privacy and the Kindle, X, Instagram, Readwise and Raycast integrations are listed under the paid plans.
- Capture is through the web, a browser extension and an iOS app; no Android app is listed.

Part 04 · Standing
Where it stands
Its grades against its category, and whether to keep it or make your own
22/147
Other note-taking apps it is graded above
Sublime's GPA of 2.4 is higher than 22 of the 147 other note-taking apps we grade, and level with 27.
It stands best on platforms and integrations (B, above 86 of 147) and worst on features (C, above 2).
Its paid plans start at $6.25 a month when paid by the year, against a middle price of $5.83 for the category: 39 of the 66 others that charge start lower.
On features, ease of use and platforms it scores 2.7 out of 4. 13 tools score higher and cost less.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace Sublime you would be making a search engine with an AI model behind it. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 98 of the 147 other note-taking apps grade higher. It costs $75 a year.
What you could make
- Bookmarks, highlights, web clipper and notes: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- A search engine with an AI model behind it.
- An endless canvas that stays smooth with hundreds of things on it.
- A real app for iOS. Something home-made would be a web page.
- It plugs into other products, Kindle, Readwise and X among them.
What this rests on. Sublime’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
