Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
3.0
GPA, above 57 of the 74 other calendar and scheduling apps we grade
Supershift is a calendar app for shift workers on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Android, made by Supershift GmbH in Hamburg. Shift templates and rotations fill in a work schedule quickly, reports add up hours, overtime and pay, and a schedule can be shared with family or coworkers. The store listings say it needs no account and works offline, with optional Cloud Sync. A paid upgrade, Supershift Pro, adds calendar export, PDF export and external calendars.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Supershift, taken from its own pages and our grades.
No sign-up, no internet needed, and a template drops a shift onto a day in seconds.

The report card
Best for shift workers on rotating schedules
Supershift is a phone app for rotating shift patterns: set your rotation once and it fills in up to two years of shifts. Most of it is free with no account. But exporting shifts to Google or Apple Calendar and PDF export need Pro at $9.99 a year, the Android app has ads, shift alarms are iPhone only, and there's no web or desktop version.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | A | Pro is $9.99 a year, against about $6 a month for a typical calendar tool, and $39.99 buys it outright. Just don't pay monthly: $3.99 a month comes to $47.88 over a year, which is more than the lifetime price. |
| Free plan and trial | B | Free with no account, and rotations, sharing and the hours and pay reports aren't on the Pro list, so a shift worker could really live on it. But sending shifts to Google or Apple Calendar and the PDF export both need Pro, and Google Play says the Android app has ads. |
| Features | C | Templates, rotations like DuPont and Pitman, several shifts in a day, reports that total hours, overtime and pay, sharing, widgets and Apple Watch. It does the shift-rota job completely, but that's a smaller job than a calendar app's, and the shift alarms are iPhone only. |
| Ease of use | A | 4.9 from about 5,600 App Store ratings. No sign-up, no internet needed, and a template drops a shift onto a day in seconds. |
| Platforms and integrations | C | iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Android, with Pro sending shifts to Apple Calendar, Google Calendar or Outlook. That's phones and tablets only: the website offers no web or desktop version, and there's no API. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Supershift is for
- Fits if you're a nurse, firefighter or driver whose pattern repeats but never matches the week
- Works for shift workers who want to total hours, overtime and pay against the payslip
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you want your shifts on a Windows PC or in a browser, as there's no web or desktop app
- Tight if you're staying free and want shifts in Google Calendar, because export is a Pro feature
- Pricey if you pay monthly: $3.99 a month is $47.88 a year, more than the $39.99 lifetime price
- Watch out: the Android app shows ads, and shift alarms are iPhone only
- Watch out: moving a Pro purchase between iPhone and Android needs a Cloud Sync account
Good to know
Good for
- Nurses, firefighters, drivers and other workers on rotating shifts
- Sharing a changing work schedule with family or coworkers
- Checking hours, overtime and pay against a payslip
Worth knowing
- Exporting shifts to other calendars, PDF export and showing external calendars all need Supershift Pro.
- Shift alarms are marked iOS only on the vendor's site, and Google Play labels the Android app as containing ads.
- The website offers iOS and Android downloads only; the App Store also lets the iPad app run on Macs with an M1 chip or later.
- A Pro purchase made on iOS carries over to Android, or the reverse, only through a Cloud Sync account.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
The plain part of Supershift you could make: calendar and reports. What surrounds it you could not. The 3 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.
It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 3.0 is higher than 57 of the 74 other calendar and scheduling apps we grade. It costs $9.99 a year.
What you could make
- Calendar and reports: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
- Hooks into the device itself: an Apple Watch app and widgets.
- Sharing with other people, which means accounts and invitations.
What this rests on. Supershift’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
