Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.4
GPA, above 27 of the 123 other to-do list apps we grade
TeuxDeux is a deliberately simple to-do list that gives each calendar day its own list, with undated someday lists underneath. Unfinished to-dos roll over to the next day, recurring to-dos are typed in plain words, and there are no alerts or pop-ups. The iOS and Android apps are free to use, while the web app requires a subscription after a 7-day trial.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about TeuxDeux, taken from its own pages and our grades.
There are no alerts or reminders by design, it needs an internet connection, and shared lists are read-only.
- 1
Best for day-by-day lists that work like paper
TeuxDeux is a to-do list laid out like paper: one list for each day, and unfinished to-dos slide to tomorrow by themselves.
- 2
Paid plans start at $3 a month
As its pricing page puts it: $3 per month, billed annually.
- 3
There is a free plan
The iOS and Android apps are free to use. The web app is free only during the 7-day trial; after that the website becomes read-only unless you subscribe.
- 4
It runs on 3 platforms
Web, iOS and Android.
- 5
A list for every day
To-dos are written on the list for a calendar day and reordered by drag and drop, in a layout meant to feel like a paper to-do list.
- 6
Automatic rollover
To-dos that are not finished today move to tomorrow's list on their own, so nothing has to be rescheduled by hand.
- 7
Recurring to-dos in plain words
Adding a phrase such as "every weekday" or "every other week" to the end of a to-do makes it repeat. Recurring to-dos can also be edited and sorted from a sidebar.
- 8
A 2.4 GPA, above 27 of 123
That is against the other to-do list apps we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.
- 9
You could make this
A to-do list at its plainest is tasks with dates, repeats and a box to tick.

The report card
Best for day-by-day lists that work like paper
TeuxDeux is a to-do list laid out like paper: one list for each day, and unfinished to-dos slide to tomorrow by themselves. The phone apps are free, but the web app is $3 a month billed yearly and goes read-only after a 7-day trial. There are no alerts or reminders by design, it needs an internet connection, and shared lists are read-only. If you need a ping, look elsewhere.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | $3 a month billed annually, or $4 month to month, which lands in the middle of what this category charges. That buys the web app plus week view, Focus mode, customisable recurring to-dos, search and undo delete. Students and teachers can email for a discount, but its size isn't published. |
| Free plan and trial | C | The iOS and Android apps are free to use without a subscription. The web app is another story: after a 7-day trial that asks for no card, the website turns read-only until you subscribe. A week isn't long to make up your mind. |
| Features | C | A list for every day, rollover of unfinished to-dos, repeats typed as "every other week", someday lists and a Focus mode with a timer. It does day-by-day planning fully, and that's a smaller job: no alerts or reminders by design, shared lists read-only for viewers, and an internet connection required. |
| Ease of use | A | 4.8 from 2,688 App Store ratings. It's laid out like a paper list, you drag to reorder, and unfinished to-dos move to tomorrow without you touching them. |
| Platforms and integrations | C | A web app plus iOS and Android apps, and no desktop app. Worse for a service that lives in a browser, no integrations and no API are on record, so there's nothing to connect it to. The App Store listing is for iPhone only. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who TeuxDeux is for
- Fits if you want a to-do list laid out like a paper planner, one day at a time
- Works for planning on your phone only, since the iOS and Android apps are free
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you rely on reminders, because to-dos have no alerts by design, only a Daily Digest email
- Not for you if you want it on a computer for free, as the web app goes read-only after the 7-day trial
- Too light for shared work, since a shared list is read-only for the people you send it to
- Watch out: it needs an internet connection, and there's no desktop app, integrations or API on record
- Watch out: the App Store listing is for iPhone only, and paying month to month raises it to $4
Good to know
Good for
- People who want a to-do list that works like a paper planner
- Planning day by day without alerts or notifications
- Phone-only users, since the iOS and Android apps are free
Worth knowing
- The web app needs a subscription after the 7-day trial; without one the website reverts to read-only.
- To-dos have no alerts or reminders by design; the only notification is the optional Daily Digest email.
- An internet connection is required to use TeuxDeux.
- Shared lists are read-only for viewers, and the App Store listing is for iPhone only.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
You could make this
A to-do list at its plainest is tasks with dates, repeats and a box to tick.
What TeuxDeux does at its core is tasks, Markdown and natural-language input, and that is the kind of thing an AI app builder makes well. You would give up one thing, listed below, and little else. It costs $36 a year. An AI app builder starts at about $19 a month on our listings, and you only need it while you build.
What you could make
- Tasks, Markdown and natural-language input: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
What this rests on. TeuxDeux’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
