Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.4
GPA, above 18 of the 94 other desktop utilities we grade
Text Blaze is a text expander from Blaze Today that inserts saved snippets when you type a short shortcut. It runs as a Chrome or Edge extension and as Windows and macOS apps, and snippets can include form fields, formulas, if/then rules and steps that click or press keys on a page. Folders of snippets can be shared with a team, and a companion tables app, Data Blaze, supplies data to snippets.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Text Blaze, taken from its own pages and our grades.
- 1
Best for canned replies in Chrome that fill themselves in
Text Blaze is a text expander that runs in Chrome and Edge, with Windows and Mac apps: type a shortcut like /ty and a saved reply appears, with form fields, sums or rules if you pay.
- 2
Paid plans start at $2.99 a month
As its pricing page puts it: $2.99 / month, billed yearly.
- 3
There is a free plan
Free forever: a limited number of snippets and limited sharing, plus Autopilot and Data Blaze access. A 2024 staff post on the vendor's forum put the cap at 20 active snippets.
- 4
It runs on 2 platforms
Windows and macOS, with a browser extension too.
- 5
Snippets and shortcuts
Save any text as a snippet and give it a shortcut such as /ty; typing the shortcut inserts the text. Rich formatting is on every plan, tables and images from Pro.
- 6
Forms and dynamic commands
Snippets can ask for values in form fields, run formulas, show different text by rule and insert shifted dates. Forms, formulas and rules need Pro; Free can test form fields.
- 7
Autopilot
A snippet can click elements on a page and simulate key presses such as Tab, to carry out steps of an in-page workflow. It is included on every plan.
- 8
A 2.4 GPA, above 18 of 94
That is against the other desktop utilities we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.
- 9
Keep it
To replace Text Blaze you would be making connections to other products, each kept working as those products change. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card
Best for canned replies in Chrome that fill themselves in
Text Blaze is a text expander that runs in Chrome and Edge, with Windows and Mac apps: type a shortcut like /ty and a saved reply appears, with form fields, sums or rules if you pay. Pro is $2.99 a month billed yearly. The free plan's snippet cap isn't on the plans page (a 2024 forum post said 20), forms and formulas need Pro, SSO is Enterprise-only at an unpublished price, and there are no mobile apps.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | Pro is $2.99 a month billed yearly, $3.49 monthly, which is the middle price for paid utilities here. Business is $6.99 a user. |
| Free plan and trial | C | Free forever, but you'll hit the walls. A 2024 staff post on the vendor's forum put the cap at 20 active snippets, sharing is limited, and forms, formulas and rules all need Pro. |
| Features | B | The whole text expander job is here: shortcuts, form fields, formulas, if/then rules, shifted dates, shared folders with roles. Autopilot clicks buttons and presses Tab for you. Rivals match most of it, so it covers the job rather than beating it. |
| Ease of use | C | No store rating on record. You build the snippet library yourself, and the formulas and if/then rules are a proper learning curve, which is where the useful stuff lives. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | A Chrome or Edge extension plus Windows and macOS apps, wired into Gmail, Google Docs, LinkedIn and Salesforce. No phone apps at all, and Safari and Firefox users get pointed at the desktop apps. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Text Blaze is for
- Fits if you type the same replies all day in Gmail, LinkedIn or a CRM in Chrome
- Works for support or sales teams sharing one library of standard messages, at $6.99 a user on Business
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you want your snippets on a phone, as there are no mobile apps
- Tight if you're staying free, because snippets are limited and the cap was put at 20 active ones in 2024
- Pricey if you only want form fields and formulas, since those, along with tables, images and rules, sit on Pro
- Watch out: Safari and Firefox users are pointed to the desktop apps, which exist only for Windows and macOS
- Watch out: SAML SSO, SCIM and audit logs need Enterprise, which is priced on request
Good to know
Good for
- People who type the same replies all day in Gmail, LinkedIn or a CRM in Chrome
- Support, sales and recruiting teams that share a library of standard messages
- Templates that need form fields, calculations or if/then logic
Worth knowing
- The plans page says only that Free has limited snippets; a 2024 staff post on the vendor's forum put the cap at 20 active snippets.
- Tables, images, formulas, conditional rules and full form fields need Pro or a higher plan.
- Desktop apps exist only for Windows and macOS. There are no mobile apps, and Safari and Firefox users are pointed to the desktop apps.
- SAML SSO, SCIM and event audit logs are limited to the Enterprise plan, which is priced on request.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace Text Blaze you would be making connections to other products, each kept working as those products change. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 59 of the 94 other desktop utilities grade higher. It costs $35.88 a year.
What you could make
- Templates: an app builder makes this well.
What you could not
- Connections to other products, each kept working as those products change.
- Text expansion that works in every app.
- A real app for macOS and Windows. Something home-made would be a web page.
- What a company asks for before it lets staff use something: single sign-on, SCIM and audit logs.
- Sharing with other people, which means accounts and invitations.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. Text Blaze’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
