Topical Map AI is a web app that turns a niche or topic into a topical map: hundreds of AI-generated keywords grouped into clusters by meaning and intent, with search volume and difficulty from DataForSEO where they exist. Maps can be edited, turned into content briefs and exported as CSV, PDF or Google Docs. Plans are monthly credit allowances, one credit per standard map.

The report card
Best for planning a whole site's content in one go
Topical Map AI is a web app that builds a topical map from a niche: hundreds of AI-made keywords grouped into clusters, with volume and difficulty where DataForSEO has them. Many long-tail keywords come back with no volume, so you still edit the list. There's no free plan or trial, Basic is $56 a month for about 25 maps, and it can't import your own list or track rankings.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | Basic is $56 a month for 25 credits, near the top of what this category charges and just under its dearest tenth. A single map without a plan is $39. Bring your own OpenAI key and maps cost no credits. |
| Free plan and trial | F | No free plan and no trial. There's a full refund within 30 days if fewer than 10 credits were spent, but a refund isn't a trial. |
| Features | C | Four map types, clusters by meaning and intent, briefs per cluster and exports to CSV, Google Docs, Excel or PDF by plan. But the keywords come from AI, many have no volume, and you can't import your own list or track rankings. |
| Ease of use | B | No rating on record, but it's type a niche, edit the subtopics, get the map. Do set aside time to look over what the AI came up with. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web only, exporting to Google Docs and Notion, and it takes your own OpenAI key. The REST API, 3 team seats and white-label PDFs start at Enterprise, $179 a month. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Topical Map AI is for
- Fits if you're starting a niche site and want a content plan built from one topic
- Works for someone who already pays OpenAI and wants maps without spending credits
Who it is not for
- Not for you if you want to try it first, since there's no free plan or trial
- Skip it if you already have a keyword list to cluster, as it can't import one
- Pricey if you need the API, team seats or white-label exports, which start at $179 a month
- Watch out: keywords are AI-made, and many long-tail ones have no reported volume, so the list needs review
- Too light for rank tracking or site audits, which it doesn't do at all
Good to know
Good for
- Bloggers and niche-site owners planning a whole site's content at once
- Freelancers and agencies handing clustered content plans to writers or clients
Worth knowing
- There is no free plan or trial; a full refund is offered within 30 days if fewer than 10 credits were used.
- Keywords are generated by AI and checked against DataForSEO, so many have no volume and the list needs review.
- The REST API, team seats and white-label exports start at Enterprise, $179 a month.
- It does not track rankings, audit sites or import an existing keyword list.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace Topical Map AI you would be making search volumes for millions of keywords, gathered and kept up to date. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 40 of the 51 other keyword research tools grade higher. It costs $672 a year.
What you could not
- Search volumes for millions of keywords, gathered and kept up to date.
- It plugs into other products, Google Docs, Notion and OpenAI among them, and has an API.
- AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
What this rests on. Topical Map AI’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
