Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.4
GPA, above 2 of the 17 other file storage and sync services we grade
Tresorit is an end-to-end encrypted service for storing, syncing and sharing confidential files, now part of Swiss Post. Its SecureCloud product comes in plans for private use and for businesses, with zero-knowledge encryption on all of them, including a free Basic plan with 3 GB. Business plans add data residency choices, single sign-on and admin policies.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Tresorit, taken from its own pages and our grades.
- 1
Best for confidential files a business can't let leak
Tresorit end-to-end encrypts files on every plan, says it can't get at your files or keys, and lets businesses choose where data lives.
- 2
Paid plans start at $4.75 a month
As its pricing page puts it: $4.75 per month, billed yearly.
- 3
There is a free plan
Tresorit Basic: 3 GB of encrypted storage, uploads of up to 500 MB per file and sync across 2 devices.
- 4
It runs on 6 platforms
Web, Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android.
- 5
Zero-knowledge encryption
Files are end-to-end encrypted on every plan, including the free one. Tresorit states that it cannot access customers' files or keys.
- 6
Encrypted link sharing
Files are shared through encrypted links with link security settings that vary by plan. Personal Pro and the business plans add file requests.
- 7
Sync and Tresorit Drive
Files sync across devices with offline access, and Tresorit Drive adds them to the local file manager without storing them on the computer.
- 8
A 2.4 GPA, above 2 of 17
That is against the other file storage and sync services we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.
- 9
Keep it
To replace Tresorit you would be making files kept in step across devices without losing one. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card
Best for confidential files a business can't let leak
Tresorit end-to-end encrypts files on every plan, says it can't get at your files or keys, and lets businesses choose where data lives. It costs more than most: $4.75 a month buys 50 GB on 2 devices, 1 TB is $11.99, Business needs 3 users at $19 each, and the paid trial asks for payment details.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | D | The $4.75 entry plan is ordinary money for this category, middle $5, but it buys 50 GB and 2 devices, where $1.99 buys 100 GB elsewhere. Real room starts at $11.99 for 1 TB, past the $9.99 where the dearest tenth begins, and Business is $19 a user with 3 users minimum. |
| Free plan and trial | C | Basic is free and encrypted like the paid plans, but it's 3 GB, no file over 500 MB and sync across 2 devices only. The 14-day trial of a paid plan asks for payment details before it starts. |
| Features | C | The storage basics with end-to-end encryption, plus Tresorit Drive, encrypted links and Gmail and Outlook plug-ins. The listing's own rationing is the catch: 2 GB file size and 5 versions on Personal Lite, 2 devices, and file requests, access logs and data residency only on the dearer plans. |
| Ease of use | B | No store rating on record, but nothing to set up: Tresorit Drive puts the files in Explorer or Finder without filling the disk, and the Gmail and Outlook plug-ins encrypt attachments where you already write email. |
| Platforms and integrations | A | Web, Windows, Mac, Linux, iPhone and Android, the full set, and it joins up with Gmail and Outlook for attachments, and Azure AD, Okta and Active Directory for business sign-in. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Tresorit is for
- Fits if you handle confidential client files, like a legal or finance team does
- Works for organizations that have to choose where their data is kept
Who it is not for
- Pricey if you just want space, at $11.99 a month billed yearly for 1 TB
- Tight if you're staying free, because Basic is 3 GB, 500 MB a file and 2 devices
- Skip it if you want to try a paid plan without a card, as the 14-day trial asks for payment details
- Watch out: Personal Lite caps files at 2 GB, keeps 5 versions and syncs 2 devices for $4.75 a month
- Watch out: shown prices are for yearly billing, and Business needs 3 users, Business Pro 5
Good to know

Tresorit's GPA of 2.4 is higher than 2 of the 17 other file storage and sync services we grade, and level with 1.
It stands best on platforms and integrations (A, above 7 of 17) and worst on value for money (D, above 0).
Its paid plans start at $4.75 a month, against a middle price of $4.17 for the category: 9 of the 16 others that charge start lower.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace Tresorit you would be making files kept in step across devices without losing one. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 14 of the 17 other file storage and sync services grade higher. It costs $57 a year.
What you could not
- Files kept in step across devices without losing one.
- Storing and serving files for other people.
- Apps for macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android that stay in step with each other.
- It plugs into other products, Gmail, Outlook and Azure AD among them.
- End-to-end encryption done properly.
- What a company asks for before it lets staff use something: single sign-on.
What this rests on. Tresorit’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
