Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

3.0

GPA, above 38 of the 40 other automation tools we grade

Ui.Vision is an open-source automation tool that runs as a browser extension for Chrome, Edge and Firefox, with a separate desktop app for automating native applications on Windows, macOS and Linux. Macros can be recorded, written with Selenium IDE-style commands or a JavaScript API, or drafted by a built-in AI assistant, and they can find things by screenshot, OCR and image recognition as well as by page selector. Macros run locally; the paid editions add support and update management.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Ui.Vision, taken from its own pages and our grades.

Desktop work means installing XModules as well.
From our grade for ease of use
  1. 1

Best for free browser and desktop macros that run locally

The Free Edition is open source with no cap on automation.

  2. 2

Paid plans start at about $13.34 a month

As its pricing page puts it: €11.90 / month for AI PRO (introductory price); PRO Edition is US$299 / year.

  3. 3

    There is a free plan

The Free Edition is open source and free for personal and commercial use, with unlimited web and desktop automation and forum support. The built-in AI assistant is free within basic limits.

  4. 4

    It runs on 3 platforms

Windows, macOS and Linux, with a browser extension too.

  5. 5

    Record and replay browser macros

Browser tasks are recorded and replayed with Selenium IDE-style commands: filling forms from CSV data, extracting tables and automating file downloads and uploads. Selenium IDE scripts import and export.

  6. 6

    Computer vision and OCR

Macros can locate buttons by image and read text on screen, including inside canvas elements, images and videos, which helps where a page selector cannot be built.

  7. 7

    Desktop automation with XModules

The free Desktop App, also called XModules, adds native mouse clicks, keyboard input and drag and drop for desktop applications, plus reading and writing macros and CSV files on disk.

  8. 8

    A 3.0 GPA, above 38 of 40

That is against the other automation tools we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

  9. 9

    Keep it

To replace Ui.Vision you would be making connections to other products, each kept working as those products change. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card

Best for free browser and desktop macros that run locally

Ui.Vision records and replays tasks in Chrome, Edge and Firefox, and a separate desktop app works native programs by matching screenshots and reading text with OCR, all on your own machine. The Free Edition is open source with no cap on automation. But macros are Selenium IDE-style commands you have to learn, desktop work needs the XModules app as well, Browser Vision input won't run in Firefox, and email support starts at US$299 a year.

ToolGPA report cardUi.VisionGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyAFree and open source for personal and commercial work, with no cap on how much browser or desktop automation you run. The paid editions, from US$299 a year, sell you email support and update channels, not features. The middle plan in this category is $19 a month.
Free plan and trialAThe Free Edition is the full product: unlimited browser and desktop automation, forum support, and the AI assistant working without a signup or an API key. The only metered thing is that assistant, and AI PRO at €11.90 a month raises its limits tenfold.
FeaturesCLocal macros: record and replay, Selenium IDE commands, OCR and image matching for what a selector can't reach, native clicks on the desktop, an MCP bridge and a command line. But that's the RPA job, not this category's job, and the listing shows the edges: the extension alone only does the browser.
Ease of useCNo rating on record, and once you're past recording your first macro you're editing Selenium IDE-style commands, which is a language to learn. Desktop work means installing XModules as well. Testers will be at home here; nobody else will be, straight away.
Platforms and integrationsBAn extension for Chrome, Edge and Firefox and a desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux, with a command line API that drops into Jenkins and scripts. No phone version at all, and Browser Vision input won't run in Firefox.
Grade point averageVery good, out of 4.03.0

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Ui.Vision is for

  • Fits if you know Selenium IDE-style commands and want a free tool that speaks them
  • Works for teams that need automation to run entirely on their own machines

Who it is not for

  • Skip it if you want macros running in someone else's cloud, because everything runs locally
  • Not for you if you expect email support for free, as that comes with PRO at US$299 a year
  • Tight if you live in Firefox, since Browser Vision input needs Chrome or Edge
  • Watch out: desktop automation and local files need the separate XModules app, as the extension only does the browser
  • Watch out: the AI assistant sends chats, page data and screenshots to its provider, and AI PRO has no uptime guarantee

Good to know

Good for

  • Testers and developers familiar with Selenium IDE-style commands
  • Automating sites or desktop apps where selectors fail but images and text can be seen
  • Teams that need automation to run entirely on their own machines

Worth knowing

  • Desktop automation and local file access need the separate XModules desktop app; the extension alone automates only the browser.
  • Browser Vision input requires Chrome or Edge, so it is not available in the Firefox extension.
  • The PRO and Enterprise editions add support and update management, not extra automation features.
  • The hosted AI assistant sends chat content, page data and screenshots to the provider for processing, and AI PRO has no uptime guarantee.

MCP bridge
An MCP bridge that runs on your computer lets an MCP-compatible AI assistant inspect the live page, create and edit macros, run them and read the logs.
Command line API
Macros can be started and monitored from the command line, so they fit into tools such as Jenkins and scripts in Python, C# or PowerShell. The XRun command calls other programs.

It stands best on free plan and trial (A, above 37 of 40) and worst on features (C, above 1).

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace Ui.Vision you would be making connections to other products, each kept working as those products change. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 3.0 is higher than 38 of the 40 other automation tools we grade. It costs $160.02 a year. Ui.Vision is open source, so there is a third way: take its code and run it yourself.

What you could not

  • Connections to other products, each kept working as those products change.
  • Apps for macOS, Windows and Linux that stay in step with each other.
  • AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.

What this rests on. Ui.Vision’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
