Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.6

GPA, above 23 of the 57 other AI assistants we grade

Venice is an AI app for chat and for image, video and audio generation that reaches models from many providers through one account. Every model is labeled with a privacy mode, from anonymized access to third-party models up to end-to-end encrypted inference on some, and conversation history is kept in the browser or on the device instead of on Venice's servers. A free plan allows a few prompts a day; paid plans lift the text limit and add monthly credits for video, music and API use.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Venice, taken from its own pages and our grades.

There's a fair bit to take in as well: four privacy modes, credits, and a chat history that stays on one device unless you back it up.
From our grade for ease of use
  1. 1

Best for many AI models with your chats kept on your device

Venice puts chat, image and video models from many labs behind one account, keeps your chat history in your browser or on your device, and labels every model with how private it is.

  2. 2

Paid plans start at $15 a month when paid by the year

As its pricing page puts it: $18 per month, or $180 per year (Pro).

  3. 3

    There is a free plan

Base AI models, 10 text prompts and 15 image prompts per day, web search and local conversation history. No document uploads, image understanding or character creation.

  4. 4

    It runs on 3 platforms

    Web, iOS and Android.

  5. 5

    Many models in one app

Text, image, video and audio models from providers such as OpenAI, Google, DeepSeek, Mistral, Meta and Black Forest Labs, plus Claude and Grok models, sit behind one account.

  6. 6

    Four privacy modes

Each model shows its mode: Anonymized (identity hidden from the provider), Private (prompts not retained), TEE (run in a secure hardware enclave) or E2EE (encrypted on your device).

  7. 7

    Local conversation history

Chats are stored in your browser or on your device, not on Venice's servers. Paid plans add encrypted chat backup and restore.

  8. 8

    A 2.6 GPA, above 23 of 57

That is against the other AI assistants we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

  9. 9

    Keep it

To replace Venice you would be making an AI model, which you can rent by the request but not make. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card

Best for many AI models with your chats kept on your device

Venice puts chat, image and video models from many labs behind one account, keeps your chat history in your browser or on your device, and labels every model with how private it is. The free plan stops at 10 text prompts a day, the encrypted models need Pro at $18 a month and switch off web search and memory, and third-party models still see your prompts under their own policies.

ToolGPA report cardVeniceGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyCPro is $18 a month, or $180 for the year, against a category middle of about $12 — the dear end of ordinary. Video and music then run on credits: Pro gets 100 a month where Pro Plus, at $68, gets 7,500.
Free plan and trialCTen text prompts and 15 image prompts a day on the base models. You'll hit that on a busy afternoon, and document uploads, image understanding and custom system prompts are left out entirely.
FeaturesAText, image, video and audio models from OpenAI, Google, Mistral, Meta and more under one account, web search through Brave, and a privacy mode on every model, up to trusted-hardware and end-to-end encrypted inference, which rivals here don't list. There's an OpenAI-compatible API too.
Ease of useC4.2 from about 1,300 App Store ratings, the middle of the pack. There's a fair bit to take in as well: four privacy modes, credits, and a chat history that stays on one device unless you back it up.
Platforms and integrationsBWeb, iPhone and Android, plus an OpenAI-compatible API that works with the OpenAI SDK, LangChain, Vercel AI and Claude Code. No desktop app is listed, so on a computer it's a browser tab.
Grade point averageGood, out of 4.02.6

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Venice is for

  • Fits if you want your chat history kept on your own device, not on a company's servers
  • Works for developers who want one OpenAI-compatible key for lots of model types

Who it is not for

  • Tight if you're staying free, at 10 text prompts and 15 image prompts a day, with no uploads or image understanding
  • Not for you if you want every chat on every device, since history lives in one browser or device unless you back it up
  • Pricey if you want lots of video or music, as those run on credits and the plans with thousands of them are $68 and $200 a month
  • Watch out: third-party models run anonymized, but the provider may still process your prompts under its own policies
  • Watch out: end-to-end encrypted mode turns off web search and memory, and there's no desktop app

Good to know

Good for

  • People who want chat history kept on their own device
  • Trying text, image and video models from many labs in one app
  • Developers who want an OpenAI-compatible API for many model types

Worth knowing

  • The Free plan stops at 10 text and 15 image prompts a day and leaves out document uploads, image understanding and custom system prompts.
  • Third-party models run in Anonymized mode: Venice hides your identity, but the provider may still process prompts under its own policies.
  • TEE and end-to-end encrypted models need a paid plan, and E2EE mode turns off web search and memory.
  • Chat history stays in one browser or device unless you use an encrypted backup or a shared link, and no desktop app is listed.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace Venice you would be making an AI model, which you can rent by the request but not make. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

It costs $180 a year.

What you could not

  • An AI model, which you can rent by the request but not make.
  • A search engine with an AI model behind it.
  • A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
  • It plugs into other products, OpenAI SDK, LangChain and Vercel AI among them, and has an API.
  • End-to-end encryption done properly.
  • The depth: we grade its features A, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. Venice’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
