Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.2
GPA, above 8 of the 69 other daily planner apps we grade
Weel, previously called PiCal, is a calendar app for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch that draws the whole day on a 24-hour dial instead of a column grid. It reads and writes events through Apple Calendar and adds multiple-alarm critical events, checklists attached to events, time zone overlays and travel time. Its maker, Executive Functioning Oy of Finland, designed it for people with ADHD and time blindness.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Weel, taken from its own pages and our grades.
- 1
Best for seeing your calendar as a 24-hour dial
Weel draws your whole day on a 24-hour dial, made with ADHD and time blindness in mind, on top of Apple Calendar so your events are already there.
- 2
Paid plans start at $3.33 a month when paid by the year
As its pricing page puts it: $7.99 per month, or $39.99 per year (US App Store).
- 3
There is a free plan
Free to download: the 24-hour dial, notes and checklists on events, travel time, time zones, widgets and Apple Watch support. Extra calendars and repeating events need Weel+.
- 4
It runs on iOS
iOS.
- 5
24-hour dial
The entire day is one circular image. The clock hand follows the sun's path and shows how much time is left before the next event.
- 6
Touch-and-drag events
Touch and drag on the dial to set when an event starts, then use a duration slider instead of working out the end time. A small dial shows clashes.
- 7
Critical and muted events
Marking an event critical adds several alarms at once and a red visual cue. Muting silences its alarms and drops it from the next-event queue.
- 8
A 2.2 GPA, above 8 of 69
That is against the other daily planner apps we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

The report card
Best for seeing your calendar as a 24-hour dial
Weel draws your whole day on a 24-hour dial, made with ADHD and time blindness in mind, on top of Apple Calendar so your events are already there. But it's iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch only, repeating events and extra calendars need Weel+ at $39.99 a year, Google events show only via iOS settings, and the App Store lists overlapping purchases it never explains.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | B | Weel+ is $39.99 a year on the US App Store, about $3.33 a month, which sits inside the cheaper quarter of this category. Monthly is $7.99, and a $1.99 weekly option works out nearer $8.60 a month. The App Store also carries Supporter items and a $149.99 PiCal Pro lifetime purchase with nothing to say how they differ. |
| Free plan and trial | C | The dial, event notes and checklists, travel time, time zones, widgets and the Apple Watch are all free. Then it stops at the obvious place: a second calendar and repeating events need Weel+, and a calendar that can't repeat anything is a wall you hit this week. |
| Features | C | The one-picture day: a 24-hour dial, touch and drag to set a start with a duration slider instead of an end time, critical events with several alarms, checklists on events, time zones and travel time. A smaller job than a planner with tasks, it reads only Apple Calendar, and repeats are paid. |
| Ease of use | C | 4.4 from about 430 App Store ratings, which is middling for this category. Touching the dial to set a start and dragging a slider for how long saves working out an end time, but a circular day takes some getting used to. |
| Platforms and integrations | C | iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch: one family of devices and no more. It works through Apple Calendar, so Google or Exchange events only appear if you've added those accounts in iOS settings first, and Android is a sign-up list with no date. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Weel is for
- Fits if you have ADHD or time blindness and want the whole day as one picture
- Works for iPhone and Apple Watch owners who already keep events in Apple Calendar
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you're on Android, where there's only a sign-up list and no date
- Tight if you're staying free, because repeating events and extra calendars are Weel+
- Pricey if you pay monthly, at $7.99 a month against $39.99 for the whole year
- Watch out: Google and Exchange events show only after you add those accounts in iOS settings
- Watch out: the App Store lists Weel+, Supporter items and a $149.99 PiCal Pro lifetime purchase with no word on how they differ
Good to know
Good for
- People with ADHD or time blindness who want the whole day in one image
- Scheduling calls and travel across several time zones
- iPhone and Apple Watch users who already keep events in Apple Calendar
Worth knowing
- It runs on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch only; Android is a sign-up list with no release date given.
- Multiple calendars and repeating events are Weel+ features, as is travel time on recurring events.
- Google and Exchange calendars appear only after those accounts are added in iOS settings, because Weel reads from Apple Calendar.
- The App Store lists overlapping purchases (Weel+, Supporter and a PiCal Pro lifetime item) without explaining how they differ.

- Critical and muted events
- Marking an event critical adds several alarms at once and a red visual cue. Muting silences its alarms and drops it from the next-event queue.
- Checklists on events
- Notes and to-do lists attach to an event, so the reminder of what to bring or prepare arrives with the event itself.
- Time zones and travel time
- Added time zones are overlaid on the schedule and rotate together on the dial, and travel time can be set between events.
- Widgets and Apple Watch
- Home screen widgets and Apple Watch complications show the day's dial outside the app. The complications need a Series 4 watch or later.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Your call
A daily planner at its plainest is today's tasks laid along a timeline.
You could make the core of Weel for yourself: calendar and tasks. What you would give up is listed below. Whether that is worth the price is your call. It costs $39.99 a year.
What you could make
- Calendar and tasks: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- A real app for iOS. Something home-made would be a web page.
- Hooks into the device itself: an Apple Watch app and widgets.
What this rests on. Weel’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
