Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.4

GPA, above 20 of the 79 other project management tools we grade

Worksection is a project management service for teams, covering tasks and subtasks, kanban boards, Gantt charts, time and cost tracking, and reports. Version 2.0 added a built-in messenger with private, group and project chats next to task comments. It is priced per seat, has a free plan for up to 5 users, and runs in the browser and in iOS and Android apps.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Worksection, taken from its own pages and our grades.

No store rating on record, and somebody sets the projects, teams and rates up before any of it reports anything.

The report card

Best for teams that bill by the hour on a small budget

Worksection covers tasks, kanban, Gantt charts, time and cost tracking, and a built-in messenger, with paid plans from $3.75 a seat billed annually. The Gantt chart, time tracking, guest access, 2FA and the API need Business at $7.5, the free plan stops at 2 projects, custom fields and project templates are still marked coming soon, and there's no desktop app or self-hosting.

ToolGPA report cardWorksectionGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyBBasic is $3.75 a seat a month billed annually, inside the cheapest quarter for project tools here, and brings unlimited projects, reports and dashboards. Business, where the Gantt chart, time and cost tracking and the API live, is $7.5, a shade under the $8 middle.
Free plan and trialCFree for up to 5 users, with caps you'll hit quickly: 2 projects and 1 GB, and no Gantt chart, reports or time tracking. Task lists, kanban, a calendar and chat are in it. Paid features get 14 days with no card.
FeaturesCThe basics are here, with gaps the listing admits to: tasks as a table, board, calendar or Gantt chart, two levels of subtasks, dependencies, a timer with hourly rates and a messenger, but the plan comparison still marks custom fields, project templates and the Zoom integration as coming soon.
Ease of useCNo store rating on record, and somebody sets the projects, teams and rates up before any of it reports anything. It's hosted, so there's nothing to maintain, and chat sits beside task comments.
Platforms and integrationsBWeb, iPhone and Android, with Slack, Google Drive, Google Calendar, Telegram, Figma, Google Meet, HubSpot and Pipedrive wired in. No desktop app is listed, and the API starts on Business.
Grade point averageFair, out of 4.02.4

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Worksection is for

  • Fits if you're an agency or service team billing clients by the hour on Business at $7.5 a seat
  • Works for teams of 5 or fewer whose work fits in 2 projects, on the free plan

Who it is not for

  • Tight if you're staying free, with 2 projects, 1 GB and no Gantt chart, reports or time tracking
  • Pricey if you need the Gantt chart, time tracking, guests, 2FA or the API, which all start on Business at $7.5 a seat
  • Skip it if you rely on custom fields, project templates or Zoom, which are still marked coming soon
  • Not for you if you want a desktop app or your own server, as neither is on offer

Good to know

Good for

  • Agencies and service teams that bill clients by the hour
  • Teams of up to 5 that can work within two projects for free
  • Teams that want task discussion and chat in one tool

Worth knowing

  • The Free plan is capped at 5 users, 2 projects and 1 GB, and leaves out the Gantt chart, reports and time tracking.
  • The Gantt chart, time and cost tracking, guest access, 2FA and the API all start on Business, at $7.5 per seat / month billed annually.
  • No desktop app is listed, and the help center says Worksection cannot be installed on your own server.
  • The plan comparison marks several items as coming soon, including project templates, custom fields and the Zoom integration.

20/79

It stands best on value for money (B, above 57 of 79) and worst on features (C, above 1).

Its paid plans start at $3.75 a month for each person, against a middle price of $8 for the category: 4 of the 74 others that charge start lower.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace Worksection you would be making chat that a whole team counts on staying up. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 38 of the 79 other project management tools grade higher. It costs $45 a year.

What you could make

  • Tasks, kanban boards, Gantt & timelines, time tracking and reports: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • Chat that a whole team counts on staying up.
  • A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
  • It is priced for each person, which means accounts and billing for a team.
  • It plugs into other products, Slack, Google Drive and Google Calendar among them, and has an API.
  • Hooks into the device itself: widgets.

What this rests on. Worksection’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
