How we grade them

3.8GPATrelloExcellent3.4GPAWorksectionVery good
Value for money
AStandard is $5 a user a month billed annually, or $6 monthly, which is the cheap end of this category. It brings unlimited boards, AI features, the full Planner and custom fields. Premium doubles it to $10 for the extra views.
ABasic is $3.75 per seat a month billed annually, $5 monthly, with unlimited projects, reports and dashboards. That's the cheap end of this category. Business, where the Gantt chart, time and cost tracking and the API live, is $7.5. Still under the going rate for a plan with all that.
Free plan and trial
AFree for up to 10 collaborators per Workspace, with up to 10 boards, unlimited cards and unlimited Power-Ups. A small team could stay here for good. The limits you'll feel are 10MB per file and 250 automation command runs a month.
BFree for up to 5 users with task lists, kanban boards, a calendar view and chat. But it's 2 projects and 1 GB, with no Gantt chart, reports or time tracking. Fine for a tiny team with one or two things on. Paid features get a 14-day trial with no credit card.
Features
ABoards, lists and cards, an Inbox that catches to-dos from email and Slack, a Planner that brings your calendar in, built-in automation and Power-Ups. Premium adds Calendar, Timeline, Table, Dashboard and Map views, some of them spanning boards.
BTasks as a table, kanban board, calendar or Gantt chart, two levels of subtasks, dependencies, a task timer with hourly rates, cost reports and a built-in messenger. Solid. But the plan comparison still marks custom fields, project templates and the Zoom integration as coming soon.
Ease of use
B4.3 from about 7,000 App Store ratings, which is a B on our ladder. The idea itself is as simple as they come: a card moves from one list to the next.
BNo app rating on record, so a B at best. It's hosted, and chat and task comments live in the same place, which saves hopping between apps. You can't install it on your own server, so there's nothing to maintain either.
Platforms and integrations
AWeb, Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android. Power-Ups link boards to Slack, Jira, Miro, Microsoft Teams and Gmail, there's a public API, and an MCP server connects Trello to AI tools.
AWeb, iPhone and Android, with no desktop app listed. It connects to Slack, Google Drive, Google Calendar, Telegram, Figma, Google Meet, HubSpot and Pipedrive. There's an API too, from the Business plan.

Built-in messenger
Private, group and project chats sit beside task comments, with mentions, scheduled messages and file sharing. Chat is included on every plan.
