Best for quick Gantt charts without full project software
Tom's Planner makes Gantt charts and stops there, which is the point. You drag coloured time blocks onto a timeline, link the ones that depend on each other, and share the result. Only the person who makes the charts pays, from $9.95 a month, and the team joins on free accounts. If you need full project management software, this isn't it, and it's browser only.
Who Tom's Planner is for
- Great if you've outgrown spreadsheets but don't want full project software
- Handy when one project manager shares charts with a team on free accounts
- Good for quick Gantt charts in proposals and client updates
Who Tom's Planner is not for
- Tight if you're staying free, with 1 schedule and no printing, exporting or inviting
- Skip it if you want a phone or desktop app, because it only runs in the browser
- Too light for teams that need task boards, workloads or time tracking alongside the chart
Why Tom's Planner gets a 3.0
Five grades, each with its reason. The GPA is their average: an A is 4 points, an F is none.
- BValue for moneyProfessional is $9.95 a month per account, billed yearly at $119, or $39 a quarter. Only the person who creates and shares charts needs it, so a whole team can work off one paid account. For one person it's about the going rate. There's no month-to-month option.
- BFree plan and trialThe Personal account is free with 1 schedule of up to 200 rows, and you can join schedules other people share with you. But you can't invite anyone, print or export. Enough to see how it works, tight for real projects.
- BFeaturesDrag-and-drop time blocks, dependencies, progress shown as percentages or traffic lights, a timeline that zooms from years down to 5-minute intervals, more than 200 templates and an AI Assist that drafts a chart. Good charts. There's no critical path, baseline or workload view on record, though.
- BEase of useNo app rating on record, so a B at best. It runs in the browser with nothing to install, and building a chart is dragging blocks with the mouse. Invited team members only need a free account, which makes getting people in simple.
- BPlatforms and integrationsBrowser only, and the vendor's site lists no desktop or mobile apps. It imports schedules from Excel, MS Project, Outlook and Google Calendar, and paid accounts export to MS Project, Excel, CSV, PDF and image files. Embedding a live chart needs the Unlimited plan.

Tom's Planner is an online Gantt chart tool for people who find spreadsheets too messy and full project management software too much. Schedules are built by dragging color-coded time blocks onto a timeline, with dependencies, filters and templates, and an AI Assist that drafts a chart from a short description. Only the person who creates and shares charts needs a paid account; invited team members can use free ones.
