Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
3.4
GPA, above 72 of the 74 other calendar and scheduling apps we grade
World Time Buddy is a time zone converter, world clock and meeting planner. Locations are stacked in rows of hour tiles, so reading down a column converts a time across every zone, and a selected time range can be sent to a calendar or shared as a link. The website has been free with all features since the maker ended paid subscriptions in May 2022. There are also iOS and Android apps, listed in the stores as Time Buddy, and embeddable widgets for websites.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about World Time Buddy, taken from its own pages and our grades.
Add your cities, drag across the hours you want, send them to your calendar.
- 1
Best for comparing time zones at a glance
World Time Buddy stacks your cities in rows of hour tiles, so you read down a column and see what 3pm in London means for everyone else.
- 2
What it costs
Paid plans start at $2.99 in-app upgrade in the iOS app (billing basis not shown).
- 3
There is a free plan
The website is free with every feature: the maker announced in May 2022 that paid subscriptions were discontinued. The iOS and Android apps are free to download.
- 4
It runs on 3 platforms
Web, iOS and Android.
- 5
Hour-tile time comparison
Add locations by searching for places or time zones such as UTC, reorder them by dragging and mark one as home. Each location gets a row of hour tiles aligned with the others.
- 6
Select and share a time range
Click and drag across the hour tiles to pick a range, then open it in Outlook, iCal, Google Calendar or Gmail, copy it to the clipboard, or create a public event page.
- 7
Google Calendar overlay
Signed-in users can overlay Google Calendar above the hour tiles to find open slots. The mobile apps can show the device's calendars in the same position.
- 8
A 3.4 GPA, above 72 of 74
That is against the other calendar and scheduling apps we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.
- 9
Keep it
The plain part of World Time Buddy you could make: calendar and calculator. What surrounds it you could not. The 3 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.

The report card
Best for comparing time zones at a glance
World Time Buddy stacks your cities in rows of hour tiles, so you read down a column and see what 3pm in London means for everyone else. The website has had every feature free since paid subscriptions ended in May 2022. But it's a time zone tool, not a calendar, the phone apps haven't been updated since 2020, the Android app has ads, and renaming or grouping places needs an account.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | A | The website costs nothing, where a typical calendar tool wants about $6 a month. The only price anywhere is a $2.99 upgrade inside the iPhone app, for location groups, and the listing never says whether that's a one-off or a subscription. The maker's own mobile page gives a workaround that unlocks it free. |
| Free plan and trial | A | Free with every feature on the web since the maker dropped paid subscriptions in May 2022, with nothing to run out. The iPhone and Android apps are free downloads too, though Google Play says the Android one carries ads. |
| Features | C | Hour tiles you read down a column, daylight saving warnings a week ahead, weekend marking, a Google Calendar overlay and widgets for your own website. It does time zone comparison completely, and that's a small job: it holds no events of its own, and the last iPhone version on record is November 2020. |
| Ease of use | A | 4.76 from about 14,000 App Store ratings. Add your cities, drag across the hours you want, send them to your calendar. That's the whole thing. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web, iPhone and Android, with no desktop app, and a time you pick opens in Google Calendar, Outlook, iCal or Gmail. Do note Google Play shows the Android app last updated in January 2020. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who World Time Buddy is for
- Fits if your team is spread over three or four time zones and you want working hours side by side
- Works for picking a call time for people in different countries
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you want an actual calendar, because it converts times and hands them to one
- Not for you if stale apps worry you, with the iPhone app last updated in November 2020 and Android in January 2020
- Tight if you won't sign in, as renaming places and grouping them in tabs on the website needs an account
- Watch out: the Android app carries ads, and the iPhone app shows a $2.99 upgrade with no word on whether it renews
- Not for you if you want a desktop app, as it's the website and phones only
Good to know
Good for
- Comparing working hours across several time zones at a glance
- Picking a call time for people in different countries
- Showing a webinar time in each website visitor's local time
Worth knowing
- Renaming locations and grouping them in tabs on the website require signing in.
- The iOS app lists a $2.99 in-app upgrade, although the maker's mobile page gives a workaround that unlocks it free of charge.
- The App Store shows iOS version 1.28 from November 2020, and Google Play shows the Android app last updated in January 2020.
- Google Play labels the Android app as containing ads and in-app purchases.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
The plain part of World Time Buddy you could make: calendar and calculator. What surrounds it you could not. The 3 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.
It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 3.4 is higher than 72 of the 74 other calendar and scheduling apps we grade.
What you could make
- Calendar and calculator: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
- Hooks into the device itself: widgets.
- Sharing with other people, which means accounts and invitations.
What this rests on. World Time Buddy’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
