Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

3.0

GPA, above 51 of the 65 other focus apps we grade

YPT, short for YeolPumTa, is a study timer app from Pallo Inc. in Seoul. You time study sessions by subject, see the hours build up in daily, weekly and monthly stats, and join groups whose members can see each other's study status and compete in live rankings. The app is free with ads on iPhone, iPad and Android, and paid subscriptions are sold as in-app purchases.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about YPT, taken from its own pages and our grades.

Start a stopwatch for your subject and that's it.
From our grade for ease of use

The report card

Best for studying alongside a group, with rankings

YPT is a study timer for phones: time each subject, then join a group where everyone sees who's studying now and where they rank. The free app covers that, with ads. The paid side is a muddle: the App Store sells subscriptions under five names without saying how they differ, the vendor lists no prices, and there's no web or desktop version.

ToolGPA report cardYPTGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyBFrom $2.99 a month, or $19.99 for 12 months, which is at the low end of this category. Premium is $4.99 monthly or $29.99 yearly. Not an A, because the store lists five subscription names and won't say how they differ.
Free plan and trialBA student really could live on the free app: timer by subject, to-dos, the 10-minute planner, groups, rankings and stats. It isn't quite free outright, though. You get ads, the iPhone app lock is Premium, and Wear OS tracking takes a purchase.
FeaturesBIt covers the whole study-timer job: a stopwatch per subject, groups showing who's working right now, live rankings in your category, a planner in 10-minute blocks with to-dos, and day, week and month stats. App blocking too, though the Android listing is where that's described.
Ease of useA4.7 from about 1,700 App Store ratings, which clears the bar for a top mark here. Start a stopwatch for your subject and that's it. The paid options are the confusing part, not the app.
Platforms and integrationsCPhones and tablets only, plus Apple Watch and Wear OS tracking. No web version, no desktop app and no integrations listed.
Grade point averageVery good, out of 4.03.0

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who YPT is for

  • Fits if you want to log your study hours subject by subject
  • Works for study groups who want to see each other's time as it happens

Who it is not for

  • Skip it if you study at a computer and want the timer there, as there's no web or desktop version
  • Not for you if ads bother you and you won't pay, since the free app shows them
  • Not for you if you want a clear price list, because the store shows five subscription names with no explanation
  • Watch out: flames, an Unlock Apps item and Wear OS tracking are separate purchases, and the iPhone app lock is Premium
  • Watch out: what each purchase adds is only spelled out in the vendor's Korean terms, not in English

Good to know

Good for

  • Students who want to log study hours subject by subject
  • Study groups that want to see each other's time as it happens
  • People motivated by ranking against others in the same field

Worth knowing

  • The vendor's site lists no prices; the US App Store shows subscriptions under five names without explaining how they differ.
  • The store also sells flames at $0.99 and $3.99 and an Unlock Apps purchase at $0.99, and the vendor's Korean terms quote 3,900 won a month.
  • The free app shows ads, and Wear OS tracking has to be activated through an in-app purchase.
  • It runs on iPhone, iPad and Android only; no web or desktop version is listed.

51/65

Other focus apps it is graded above

YPT's GPA of 3.0 is higher than 51 of the 65 other focus apps we grade, and level with 7.

It stands best on ease of use (A, above 45 of 65) and worst on platforms and integrations (C, above 8).

Its paid plans start at $1.67 a month when paid by the year, against a middle price of $2.82 for the category: 5 of the 45 others that charge start lower.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

The plain part of YPT you could make: time tracking and tasks. What surrounds it you could not. The 4 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.

It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 3.0 is higher than 51 of the 65 other focus apps we grade. It costs $19.99 a year.

What you could make

  • Time tracking and tasks: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • Blocking that reaches every browser and app and is hard to switch off.
  • A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
  • Hooks into the device itself: an Apple Watch app and a Wear OS app.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. YPT’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
