The best Loom alternatives in 2026

Five alternatives to Loom for people who have outgrown its 25-video free plan or its basic editing, from a recorder with a built-in editor to a one-time purchase for the Mac. Each pick says how it differs and what it costs.

Updated Oct 4, 2026 · 5 tools · How we pick

Loom's free Starter plan has three hard caps: 25 videos per person, 5-minute screen recordings and 720p quality. Past that, Business is $18 per user a month billed monthly, and it is billed per Creator. The AI features, auto-summaries, auto-chapters and filler-word removal, sit in a separate Business + AI tier at $24 per user a month. Editing covers trimming, stitching clips and adding text, arrows and backgrounds.

None of the five alternatives below copies Loom exactly. Each answers a different complaint: one adds a full editor to the recorder, one edits video through its transcript, one can be bought once, one adds zooms to a demo automatically and one is a recording studio for interviews. Two have a free plan. What none of them adds is a Linux app, which Loom does not list either, and only Riverside matches Loom's iOS and Android apps.

The picks run from the closest all-round replacement to the more specialized ones. Prices are the vendors' own, read on the date shown on each tool's page.

The picks in detail

    Tella

Best all-round replacementScreen recorder with a built-in editor, layouts and 4K export

Tella is the closest to Loom in how it works: record screen and camera in the browser or in Mac and Windows apps, then share by link or embed and track viewers. The difference is the editor. Screen and camera are separate tracks, so the layout can change after recording, with zooms, cuts made by deleting words from the transcript and export in up to 4K. Pro is $13 per user a month billed yearly, with recordings up to 6 hours per clip and unlimited storage.

Worth knowing: There is no free plan to replace Loom's Starter: after the 7-day trial, recording needs a subscription. Billed monthly, Pro is $26, more than Loom Business, and there is no mobile app.

$13 per user / month, billed yearly ($26 billed monthly)

    Descript

Best for editing by transcriptAudio and video editor that works by editing the transcript

If trimming and stitching are not enough, Descript is an editor first: delete or rearrange words in the transcript and the same cut is made to the video. Filler-word removal and Studio Sound noise removal are among its AI tools, where Loom keeps filler-word removal for its Business + AI and Enterprise plans. You can record your screen inside it, and it has a free plan. Hobbyist is $16 per person a month billed annually.

Worth knowing: Every plan is metered by media hours and AI credits: Free allows 60 media minutes a month with watermarked 720p export, and Hobbyist 10 media hours a month. There are no mobile apps.

    CleanShot X

Best one-time purchase for Mac usersMac screenshot and screen recording app with a one-time license

CleanShot X replaces a subscription with a purchase: the Basic license is $35 once, against $18 per user a month for Loom Business, and it keeps working indefinitely. It records the screen to MP4 or GIF with microphone and computer audio and a camera overlay, has a built-in editor for zooms and cursor movement, and uploads captures to CleanShot Cloud for a share link. It also takes and annotates screenshots.

Worth knowing: It runs on macOS only. Basic includes 1 GB of cloud storage and one year of updates; unlimited storage and team features need Pro at $10 per user a month billed annually.

    Screen Studio

Best for automatic zooms on a MacMac screen recorder with automatic zooms and cursor smoothing

Screen Studio is for recordings that have to look produced, such as product demos and launch videos. Zooms are added automatically as you record, cursor movement is smoothed, and an iPhone or iPad can be recorded and shown inside a device mockup. You can export MP4 at up to 4K and 60 fps or publish a shareable link. It is $9 a month billed yearly.

Worth knowing: It is macOS only and subscription only, and billed monthly it is $29, more than Loom Business. Shareable links cover videos up to 30 minutes, and the site does not mention a free trial.

    Riverside

Best for recording remote guestsRemote recording studio for podcasts and video interviews

Riverside replaces Loom when the recording is a conversation rather than a walkthrough. Each participant is recorded locally on their own device in up to 4K, with a separate track per person, and the Mac app records a shared screen as its own track. It is the only alternative here with iOS and Android apps, and its Free plan allows unlimited single-track recording. Pro is $24 a month billed annually.

Worth knowing: The Free plan is limited to 720p with a Riverside watermark and 2 hours of multi-track recording. Pro costs more than Loom Business, and the desktop app is listed for Mac only.

How to choose

Work out what Loom is not doing for you

If the 25-video cap on the free plan is the issue, Descript and Riverside are the alternatives with a free plan, though each has its own limits. If it is editing, Tella, Descript and Riverside let you cut a video through its transcript, and Screen Studio adds zooms automatically. If it is paying every month, CleanShot X Basic is a one-time $35.

Compare prices on the same billing basis

Loom Business is $18 per user a month billed monthly, and Loom says paying annually saves up to 17%. Tella Pro at $13 and Screen Studio at $9 are yearly rates; billed monthly they are $26 and $29, more than Loom. Descript Hobbyist is $16 per person a month billed annually or $24 billed monthly. CleanShot X Pro is $10 per user a month billed annually.

Check the devices you record on

Loom records on Mac, Windows, Chrome, iOS and Android. Tella and Descript cover Mac, Windows and the browser, but neither has a mobile app. Screen Studio and CleanShot X are Mac only. Riverside runs in the browser, with a Mac app and iOS and Android apps. None of the five lists a Linux app.

Decide how viewers will watch

Loom's links carry comments, emoji reactions and a view of who watched. Tella shares by link or embed and tracks viewers, with advanced analytics on Premium. CleanShot Cloud links can be password protected and set to self-destruct. Screen Studio publishes shareable links at 1080p for videos up to 30 minutes.
