The best Superhuman Mail alternatives in 2026

Seven email tools that can replace Superhuman Mail, including two with free plans, lower-priced clients and options for accounts beyond Gmail and Outlook. Each pick says who it suits and where it stops.

Updated Oct 4, 2026 · 7 tools · How we pick

Superhuman Mail is a keyboard-driven client for Gmail and Outlook, and the first reason people look elsewhere is on its pricing page. There is no free plan and no free trial is mentioned; Starter is $25 per member a month billed annually, or $30 billed monthly. Auto Drafts, Ask AI and the HubSpot, Salesforce and Pipedrive integrations need the Business plan at $33, and both plans stop at 25 seats.

The second reason is reach. Superhuman Mail is built for Gmail and Outlook accounts and lists no other providers, so anyone with mail on iCloud, Yahoo or another IMAP server needs a different client. The seven alternatives here answer one or both points: two have free plans, four cost less than $100 a year to start, and several accept accounts Superhuman Mail does not.

Picks run from the alternatives that suit the most people leaving Superhuman Mail to the more specialized ones. Prices are the vendors' own, read on the date shown on each tool's page.

The picks in detail

    Spark Mail

Best free alternative across providersEmail client with a unified smart inbox, AI tools and team features

Spark Mail covers the two things Superhuman Mail does not: a free plan and accounts beyond Gmail and Outlook. It pulls Google, Outlook, iCloud, Yahoo, Exchange and IMAP accounts into one inbox on Mac, Windows, iOS and Android, and the free plan includes unlimited accounts with snooze, send later and reminders. Plus adds AI drafting and summaries, sender screening and shared threads with private comments for $8.25 per user a month billed annually, against $25 for Superhuman Mail's Starter plan.

Worth knowing: There is no web or Linux version, the free plan's AI is a limited preview, and shared inboxes and the HubSpot integration need Pro at $16.58 per user a month billed annually.

    Shortwave

Best like-for-like for Gmail usersAI email client for Gmail with an assistant, filters and split inbox

Shortwave is the nearest in approach if your mail is in Gmail or Google Workspace: a split inbox with AI throughout. Its assistant will organize the inbox, draft replies in your own voice, search your mail and schedule meetings from a prompt, and teammates can share threads, comment privately and assign emails. Unlike Superhuman Mail it has a Free plan and a 14-day trial of the paid plans, and Pro for individuals is $18 per seat a month.

Worth knowing: Sign-in requires Gmail or Google Workspace, so Microsoft 365 and Exchange accounts are left out, and AI usage on every plan is capped by a daily quota.

    Price
Free plan; paid plans from $18 per seat / month (Pro, the individual plan)
    Runs on
    Web, macOS, Windows, iOS, Android

    Missive

Best for teams and shared inboxesTeam email client with shared inboxes, internal chat and rules

Missive suits a team that wants more than sharing threads one at a time. Shared inboxes sit beside personal accounts, and teammates discuss a thread internally, assign it and write the reply together. The Productive plan, at $24 per user a month billed yearly, adds rules and integrations that include HubSpot, Salesforce and Pipedrive, which in Superhuman Mail need the $33 Business plan. Missive's Business plan has no user limit, where Superhuman Mail's Starter and Business plans stop at 25 seats.

Worth knowing: There is no free plan, Starter is limited to 5 users with no rules or integrations, and SAML single sign-on needs Business at $36 per user a month billed yearly.

If what you want is a dedicated desktop client for Gmail, Mimestream offers one on the Mac for $49.99 a year, or $4.99 billed monthly, with a 14-day trial that needs no credit card. It uses the Gmail API, so labels, inbox categories, server-side filters and Gmail search work as they do in Gmail, with keyboard shortcuts, templates, snooze and an optional unified inbox across several Gmail accounts.

Worth knowing: It runs only on a Mac (macOS 12 or newer) and is built for Gmail accounts; the site lists no iOS, Windows or web version.

    SaneBox

Best for keeping the app you haveAI email filtering that works inside the email app you already use

SaneBox is for people who would rather go back to the email app they already have and keep the triage. It connects to Gmail, Microsoft 365, iCloud, Yahoo, Fastmail, IMAP or Exchange accounts and moves unimportant mail into a SaneLater folder, with a daily digest, snooze folders and reminders when a sent email gets no reply. Its folders show up in whichever email client or device you use. The Snack plan is $6.99 a month or $58.99 a year, as listed in the App Store.

Worth knowing: It is not an email client, there is no free plan once the 7-day trial ends, and Snack covers 1 account and any 2 features; only Dinner includes everything.

    Web, iOS, Android

    HEY

Best for a fresh start with screeningEmail service and calendar with sender screening, from 37signals

HEY is the choice if the real problem is what reaches your inbox and you are willing to change address to fix it. It is a separate email service with a new @hey.com address, where first-time senders wait in the Screener until you approve them, and newsletters and receipts are routed to a Feed and a Paper Trail of their own. HEY for You costs $99 a year with a 30-day trial that needs no credit card, and it runs on the web, Mac, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android.

Worth knowing: It is not a client for Gmail or Outlook: existing mail history is not imported, only forwarded going forward, and IMAP and POP are not supported.

$99 per year (HEY for You, annual billing only)

    Front

Best for customer-facing teamsShared inbox and customer operations platform with AI and ticketing

Front fits a team whose shared email is really customer support. Incoming messages are assigned in shared inboxes so everyone can see who is handling what, with ticketing, automation rules and analytics on top, and from the Professional plan it combines email, SMS, Front Chat and WhatsApp. Starter matches Superhuman Mail's Starter price at $25 per seat a month billed annually, the 14-day trial needs no credit card, and Enterprise has no seat limit.

Worth knowing: Starter is capped at 10 seats and one channel type, Professional costs $65 per seat a month billed annually, and Copilot, Smart QA and Smart CSAT are paid add-ons below Enterprise.

How to choose

Start with where your mail lives

Superhuman Mail works with Gmail and Outlook. If you are on Gmail or Google Workspace you have the most choice, including the Gmail-only Shortwave and Mimestream. If you are on Outlook or Microsoft 365, look at Spark Mail, Missive or SaneBox. For iCloud or other IMAP accounts, which Superhuman Mail does not list, Spark Mail and Missive are full clients and SaneBox adds filtering to the app you already use.

Decide what you were paying for

If it was a dedicated desktop client, Mimestream (Mac and Gmail only) and Spark Mail cost less. If it was AI drafting and search, Shortwave builds its client around an assistant and Spark Mail includes +AI from the Plus plan. If it was a calmer inbox, SaneBox filters mail before you see it and HEY screens first-time senders. If it was sharing threads with colleagues, Missive and Front are built for teams.

Compare the entry prices

Spark Mail and Shortwave have free plans. Paid plans start at $4.99 a month for Mimestream, $6.99 a month for SaneBox, $8.25 per user a month billed annually for Spark Mail's Plus plan, $99 a year for HEY, $14 per user a month billed yearly for Missive and $18 per seat a month for Shortwave Pro. Front Starter is $25 per seat a month billed annually, the same as Superhuman Mail's Starter plan.

Check the team limits

Superhuman Mail's Starter and Business plans stop at 25 seats. Missive Starter is limited to 5 users and Productive to 50, and Business is unlimited. Front Starter is capped at 10 seats and Professional at 50, and Enterprise is unlimited. Spark Mail keeps shared inboxes for its Pro plan.
