Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What these tools do, how many we grade and what to know before choosing

29

YouTube SEO tools we grade, from their own pages

Find video topics people search for, write titles and tags that get found and see what grows a channel.

Before you choose, here are 7 things to know about YouTube SEO tools, worked out from every one we grade.

  1. 1

We grade 29 YouTube SEO tools

16 of them are free or have a free plan, and 7 more let you try before paying. Everything in this guide comes from their own pages and our grades.

  2. 2

Paid plans start at $17.79 a month in the middle

From $2.50 (CreatorHat) to $199 (Tubegrow), going by what each one's paid plans start at.

  3. 3

Best value: vidIQ, YouTube Studio and UTubeKit

Nothing on our chart scores higher than these without costing more.

  4. 4

3 of 29 have iPhone and Android apps

28 run in a web browser and 2 have a Windows app. Check the one you need before you fall for anything.

  5. 5

    The middle GPA is 2.2

2 score 3.0 or higher. The highest is UTubeKit, at 3.0.

  6. 6

    Best free option: UTubeKit

UTubeKit has the highest GPA of the free ones, 3.0. Free AI tools for YouTube titles, tags, descriptions and keywords.

  7. 7

27 worth keeping, 0 you could make

By our keep-or-make rules, 27 do something you couldn't reasonably build yourself, 0 are simple enough to make with an AI app builder, and 2 are a close call.

Part 02 · Top three

Our top three

The three we'd look at first, and who each one suits

The three YouTube SEO tools we'd look at first. First place suits the most people; second and third are the best picks for the people it leaves out. Each has an Insider's Guide of its own.

  1. 1st

    2.8GPA

    vidIQ

    Free plan · from $16.58/mo

    For: Most YouTube creators

vidIQ looks up YouTube keywords with search volume and competition scores, suggests daily video ideas and outliers, and shows suggested titles, descriptions and tags inside YouTube's upload page through its extension. It runs on the web, as a browser extension and on iPhone and Android. Free gives 150 AI credits a month; Boost is $16.58 a month billed yearly ($19 monthly) for one channel. Know the limits: every AI tool spends credits, the main tools are only partly open on Free, larger credit allowances have no price on the page, and more than 3 channels or several team members need the custom-priced Enterprise plan.

    3.0GPA

    YouTube Studio

    Free

For: Anyone who wants to pay nothing

YouTube Studio is free for every channel, on the web and in iPhone, iPad and Android apps. Its Trends tab shows your audience's top searches over the last 28 days and breakout videos from similar channels, Analytics reports views, watch time and retention, and A/B tests try up to 3 titles or thumbnails on a long-form video. It is second because it shows numbers only for channels you own or manage and suggests no keywords or tags. A/B tests are desktop-only and skip Shorts, and some Trends insights are limited to certain countries, languages and devices.

    2.6GPA

    Rapidtags

    Free plan · from $6/mo

For: Creators who want keyword scores and tags on a small budget

Rapidtags turns a video title into tags drawn from YouTube data, scores keywords for difficulty and search volume, shows the videos ranking for a term and checks where a video ranks. Free allows 10 tag generations, 3 keyword searches and 3 rank checks a day with ads; Starter is $6 a month for 25 searches and 10 rank checks a day. It is third because it covers the keyword side only, with no analytics, thumbnail help or testing, and runs on the web alone. Every plan has daily caps, there is no trial, and subscriptions are not refunded.

Part 05 · Keep or make

Keep or make?

Which are worth paying for, and which you could make yourself

0

Simple enough to make yourself, of 29

Some software does something you couldn’t reasonably build yourself. Some is simple enough that an AI app builder could make the core of it in an afternoon. Here’s where YouTube SEO tools land, by the same rules for every tool.

  • 27

    Keep it

It does something you could not reasonably make for yourself, or it costs nothing.

  • 2

    Your call

You could make the core of it, and you would give something up.

  • 0

    You could make this

What it does is the kind of thing an AI app builder makes well, and it charges every month.

Worth keeping

  • UTubeKit

UTubeKit is free, so making your own would save you nothing.

  • YouTube Studio

YouTube Studio is free, so making your own would save you nothing.

  • Bangermap

Nothing Bangermap does is plain enough to make in a weekend. The 3 things listed below take a company.

  • vidIQ

To replace vidIQ you would be making search volumes for millions of keywords, gathered and kept up to date. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
