How we grade them
| 3.2GPAAntidoteVery good | 3.4GPAGrammarlyVery good | |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | AAntidote+ Personal is CA$59.95 for the first year and CA$48 a year after that, for all three apps. Paid writing tools typically start around $10 a month, so this is well under. The family plan covers 5 people for CA$99.95. | C$12 a month if you pay for the year is okay. $30 a month if you don't is a lot for a grammar checker, and LanguageTool costs less. |
| Free plan and trial | CNo free plan. You get a 30-day free trial of Antidote+ with all three apps, and the listing doesn't say whether it asks for a card. After that it's a yearly subscription or nothing. | BFree for as long as you like, with spelling, grammar, tone detection and 100 AI prompts a month. Rewrites are Pro only, and reviewers say it nags you to upgrade. |
| Features | AA corrector that explains each error, dictionaries with synonyms and conjugations, 578 language guides, and an AI mode that rewrites or shortens a passage. Anti-Oops! even checks an email for a missing attachment when you hit Send. | ASpelling, grammar and tone, sentence rewrites, AI drafting, plus plagiarism and AI-text checks. Docs adds helpers that find citations. That's a lot for a checker. |
| Ease of use | BThere's no App Store rating on record, so a B is as high as we go. It's an app you install, and the free Connectix utility plugs it into your other software so fixes land in the original document. | A4.7 from about 225,000 App Store ratings. Install it, type as normal and click what it underlines. That's the whole lesson. |
| Platforms and integrations | BWindows, Mac, a web app, iPhone and iPad, with connectors to more than 90 apps, Word, Outlook, Google Docs and Gmail among them. But there's no native Android app, and Antidote Mobile has no corrector of its own. | AWindows, Mac, four browsers, iPhone, iPad and Android. It works inside Gmail, Google Docs, Word, Outlook and Slack. No Linux app, though. |
| Best for | grammar checking in English and French | checking your writing in every app |

Key features
Antidote
- Corrector
- Flags spelling, grammar and typography errors with a tooltip explaining each one, and its filters pick out repetition and non-inclusive wording.
- Reformulation
- A subscription-only mode that uses generative AI trained by Druide's linguists to rewrite, retouch, soften or shorten a passage or a segment of it.
- Dictionaries
- Definitions link on to synonyms, antonyms, word combinations, conjugations and word families, with audio pronunciation for subscribers.
- Language guides
- 578 articles cover grammar, style, spelling and punctuation, and the corrector's tooltips link to the article that explains the rule in question.
- Anti-Oops! for email
- Steps in when Send is clicked to prompt a final check of the email, confirm that the intended attachments are included, and flag wording that may be badly received.
- Connectors to other software
- The free Connectix utility links Antidote 12 or Antidote Web to more than 90 applications, so corrections are applied in the original document.
Grammarly
- Grammar, spelling and tone checks
- Corrects spelling and grammar and shows the tone of a message on every plan. Full-sentence rewrites and one-click tone adjustments are part of Pro.
- Works inside other apps
- Desktop apps for Windows and Mac, extensions for Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge, and iPhone, iPad and Android apps bring suggestions into tools such as Gmail, Google Docs, Word and Slack.
- Docs and AI agents
- Docs is a browser-based document editor with agents including AI Grader, Citation Finder, Reader Reactions, Humanizer and Paraphraser. Some agents are limited to Pro.
- Generative AI prompts
- Drafts and reworks text from a prompt. The allowance is 100 prompts a month on Free, 2,000 per member on Pro and unlimited on Enterprise.
- Plagiarism and AI detection
- Scans a document for text that matches other sources and for passages likely to be AI-generated. The plans page lists both checks under Pro.
- Team style controls
- Pro team accounts get style guides, brand tones, knowledge share, snippets and usage analytics, so a group writes with the same terms and voice.
