Worth knowing

aTimeLogger

  • The website and the US App Store disagree on two prices: Premium is $10.99 against $9.99, and Premium Sync is $4.99 a month against $5.99.
  • Sync between devices and the web app need the Premium Sync subscription; the one-time purchases do not include them.
  • The vendor's FAQ says there is no built-in invoice generator and no team management.
  • The Mac App Store listing for the macOS app shows its latest version dated November 2023.

Toggl

  • The free plan stops at 3 users, and billable rates and team-level reports start on Starter.
  • Timesheet approvals, profitability reports, the Jira and Asana integrations and SSO need Premium.
  • Monthly billing costs more: $12 instead of $9 per user on Starter and $24 instead of $16 on Premium.
  • Desktop apps are listed for Windows and macOS; none is listed for Linux.

Key features

aTimeLogger

One-tap activity tracking
Tapping an activity's icon starts logging at once, and activities can be paused and resumed. Paid plans let several run at the same time and remove the limit on categories.
Goals
Reach goals encourage a habit and limit goals cap one, daily or weekly, measured by time or, in Premium, by number of occurrences. The app notifies you when a goal is reached.
Reports and statistics
Reports cover a chosen date range and set of activity types, shown as charts and exported to CSV or HTML. The web app also exports reports to PDF.
Widgets, watch and automation
Home and lock-screen widgets, Apple Watch and Wear OS apps, Siri and Apple Shortcuts actions start or stop tracking without opening the app. Tasker does the same on Android.
Pomodoro, calendar and custom fields
Premium adds a configurable Pomodoro timer with strict mode, countdown timers, copying logged time to the system calendar, and custom fields such as an hourly rate.
Sync, web app and AI assistants
Premium Sync shares data between iOS, Android, macOS and the web app. An open-source MCP server lets Claude and other assistants start timers and fetch reports with a revocable token.

Toggl

Timers and manual entries
Start a timer, log hours afterwards or fill in a week at a time. Idle detection prompts you when the timer is running but the device has gone quiet.
Automated tracking
Toggl can record which apps and sites you used and lay them out on a private timeline. You decide which of them become time entries.
Focus mode and Pomodoro
Timed work sprints with a Pomodoro timer, plus reminders when logged time is under or over a threshold you set.
Billing and profitability
Billable rates by workspace, member or project start on Starter. Premium adds labor costs, fixed fee projects and reports on revenue, cost and margin.
Capacity and project planning
Tasks sit on boards, lists, timelines and calendars with estimates against tracked time. Utilization and workload reports account for time off and working hours.
Toggl AI
Ask in plain language about hours logged or projects over estimate, or have it log time and create tasks. An MCP server and CLI connect Toggl to Claude, Cursor or Codex.
