How we grade them
| 3.8GPAaTimeLoggerExcellent | 3.4GPATimelinesVery good | |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | AStandard is a $5.99 one-time purchase and Premium is $10.99, less than two months of a typical time tracker. Only sync and the web app need Premium Sync, at $4.99 a month. One wrinkle: the US App Store lists Premium at $9.99 and the subscription at $5.99. | APRO is $39.99 a year, well under what most time trackers start at, and every paid feature is in it. Do take the year: paid monthly it's $7.99, which is more than double over twelve months. Lifetime is $159.99 on the US App Store, four years' worth of the yearly plan. |
| Free plan and trial | BThe free tier has core tracking, widgets, the Apple Watch and Wear OS apps and Siri Shortcuts or Tasker. But unlimited categories, reports, goals, reminders and export all need a paid plan, so it's more of a long look than a home. | BThe free version has the interactive timeline, a pie chart, the events log, reminders and basic exporting. But it's capped at 3 categories. Work, sleep and exercise and you're full. There's a 7-day free trial of the paid features. |
| Features | AIt's a personal tracker and it does that job fully: one-tap activities you can pause, several running at once, goals that push a habit or cap one, reports to CSV, a Pomodoro timer and custom fields like an hourly rate. No invoice generator and no team management, by design. | AIt's a personal tracker and does that job fully: timers from the app, a widget or your wrist, entries you can fix afterwards, one-tap pie charts, goals per category, Siri Shortcuts and import from Apple Health. No team accounts or invoicing, and it doesn't pretend otherwise. |
| Ease of use | A4.7 from about 300 App Store ratings. Tapping an activity's icon starts logging at once, and a widget or your watch will do it without opening the app. | A4.8 from about 1,600 App Store ratings. You don't pick date ranges from menus here. You swipe and pinch the timeline until it shows what you want. |
| Platforms and integrations | AiPhone, Android, the web and macOS, with Apple Watch and Wear OS apps. Apple Shortcuts and Tasker automate it, and an API and MCP server let Claude or ChatGPT start timers. The web app and API come with Premium Sync, mind. | CiPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Vision Pro, and that's it. Android is only a waitlist. There's no native Mac app yet, though the press kit says it runs on Macs with Apple silicon. |
| Best for | tracking your whole day without a subscription | seeing your day as colored blocks on a timeline |

Key features
aTimeLogger
- One-tap activity tracking
- Tapping an activity's icon starts logging at once, and activities can be paused and resumed. Paid plans let several run at the same time and remove the limit on categories.
- Goals
- Reach goals encourage a habit and limit goals cap one, daily or weekly, measured by time or, in Premium, by number of occurrences. The app notifies you when a goal is reached.
- Reports and statistics
- Reports cover a chosen date range and set of activity types, shown as charts and exported to CSV or HTML. The web app also exports reports to PDF.
- Widgets, watch and automation
- Home and lock-screen widgets, Apple Watch and Wear OS apps, Siri and Apple Shortcuts actions start or stop tracking without opening the app. Tasker does the same on Android.
- Pomodoro, calendar and custom fields
- Premium adds a configurable Pomodoro timer with strict mode, countdown timers, copying logged time to the system calendar, and custom fields such as an hourly rate.
- Sync, web app and AI assistants
- Premium Sync shares data between iOS, Android, macOS and the web app. An open-source MCP server lets Claude and other assistants start timers and fetch reports with a revocable token.
Timelines
- Interactive timeline
- Tracked events appear as colored markers on a timeline you pan and pinch, from hours up to weeks and months. Any set of timelines can be shown or hidden to focus on one area.
- Timers and editable entries
- Timers start and stop from the app, a widget or the watch. Events can be added afterwards, given a name and notes, and have their start and end times corrected.
- Statistics and exports
- One tap turns the visible interval into a pie chart with a time summary per category. PRO adds a bar chart of trends over time and detailed PDF and CSV exports.
- Goals
- Daily, weekly or monthly time targets can be set per category, such as 20 minutes of language practice a day, with progress tracking and periodic reports. Goals are part of PRO.
- Apple Watch app
- Timers are controlled from the wrist, with watch face complications, dictation for event names and the digital crown for correcting times. It works without a phone connection.
- Widgets, Shortcuts and Health import
- Home and Lock Screen widgets and a Live Activity show goals, charts and the running timer. Siri Shortcuts automate timers, and PRO imports workouts, sleep and meditation from Apple Health.
