Who each one suits

Beaver Habit Tracker

  • People who want a plain streak tracker with no goals or scores
  • Self-hosters running Docker, Unraid or Easypanel
  • Ticking habits from an API, Home Assistant or a Stream Deck

Table Habit

  • People who want one free tracker on phone and desktop, including Linux
  • Users who already run Nextcloud or another WebDAV server
  • Scoring partial or over-completed days instead of a plain streak
  • Loop Habit Tracker users moving to iOS or a desktop

Worth knowing

Beaver Habit Tracker

  • There are no store apps: it runs in a browser, with a standalone web-app mode on iOS, and a native iOS client is only in TestFlight beta.
  • On the hosted service, unlimited habits, categories and daily backup need the Pro license, and the Basic plan's habit cap is not published.
  • It has no goals by design: habits are ticked off per day, and the feature list includes no numeric targets or counts.
  • Self-hosting means running the Docker image yourself; the pricing section lists daily backup only under hosted Pro.

Table Habit

  • Home screen widgets for Android and iOS are marked as in progress on the roadmap and are not yet released.
  • Sync works only through a WebDAV server that you provide; other sync backends are listed as planned.
  • There is no web version, and the user guide is written for the Android app with other platforms noted separately.
  • The README describes it as a one-person indie project supported by donations.

Key features

Beaver Habit Tracker

Streaks without goals
Habits are ticked off day by day in a grid and shown as streaks. The app deliberately leaves out goals and targets.
Daily notes and periodic habits
A note or description can be added to a day's entry, and a habit can follow a period such as every second weekend instead of every day.
Habit management
Habits can be reordered, edited, duplicated or archived from a context menu and grouped by category. Light and dark themes and custom CSS are supported.
REST API
An API creates, updates, lists and completes habits. The README links community projects built on it for Stream Deck, Home Assistant, Apple Shortcuts and CalDAV.
Self-hosting
The BSD-3-Clause licensed server runs from a Docker image, with templates for Unraid and Easypanel, and stores data in SQLite or a JSON file.
Import and export
Data exports and imports in the app's own JSON format, and CSV files from other trackers such as Loop Habit Tracker can be imported.

Table Habit

Habit score
Each habit earns a score up to 100 from a curve-based algorithm. A Target Days setting fixes the minimum number of days needed to reach the full score.
Positive and negative habits
A habit has a daily goal and an extra goal. Going over the goal earns bonus points up to a limit, falling short costs less than a miss, and a skipped day costs nothing.
Completion rules
A habit can be due daily, on any X days per week, on any X days per month, or X times within a rolling window of Y days.
WebDAV sync
Devices sync through a WebDAV server such as Nextcloud, Koofr or one you host yourself, so no vendor account or vendor cloud is involved.
Heatmaps and growth charts
A habit's detail page has a check-in heatmap, a bar chart of check-ins and a score graph that can be grouped by day, week, month or year.
Groups, import and export
Habits can be grouped, colored, reordered by dragging and checked in as a batch. Data exports and imports as JSON, and Loop Habit Tracker data can be imported from CSV.
