Who each one suits

Loop Habit Tracker

  • Android users who want a habit tracker with no cost, ads or account
  • People who prefer a strength score to an all-or-nothing streak
  • Anyone who wants to export habit data to CSV or SQLite

Table Habit

  • People who want one free tracker on phone and desktop, including Linux
  • Users who already run Nextcloud or another WebDAV server
  • Scoring partial or over-completed days instead of a plain streak
  • Loop Habit Tracker users moving to iOS or a desktop

Worth knowing

Loop Habit Tracker

  • Android only: the FAQ says there is no iOS version and that App Store apps using the name are unauthorized copies.
  • There is no account or built-in sync; backups rely on Android's backup service or a manually exported file.
  • Only positive habits are tracked, so a habit to quit has to be rephrased, for example as a smoke-free day.
  • Version 2.3.1 on F-Droid requires Android 9.0 or newer.

Table Habit

  • Home screen widgets for Android and iOS are marked as in progress on the roadmap and are not yet released.
  • Sync works only through a WebDAV server that you provide; other sync backends are listed as planned.
  • There is no web version, and the user guide is written for the Android app with other platforms noted separately.
  • The README describes it as a one-person indie project supported by donations.

Key features

Loop Habit Tracker

Habit score
A formula based on exponential smoothing rates the strength of each habit. Every repetition raises the score, and a missed day lowers it without resetting progress.
Flexible schedules
Besides daily habits, schedules such as 3 times per week or every other day are supported. A day can be marked as skipped, which leaves the score and streak unchanged.
Reminders
Each habit can have its own reminder at a chosen time of day, and a habit can be checked or dismissed directly from the notification.
Home screen widgets
Widgets for checkmarks, frequency, habit strength, history and streaks let you track habits from the home screen without opening the app.
Graphs and statistics
Graphs show how each habit has developed over time, and the full history of a habit can be scrolled back through.
Data export and Tasker support
Data can be exported to CSV spreadsheets or an SQLite database file, and other apps such as Tasker can add checkmarks.

Table Habit

Habit score
Each habit earns a score up to 100 from a curve-based algorithm. A Target Days setting fixes the minimum number of days needed to reach the full score.
Positive and negative habits
A habit has a daily goal and an extra goal. Going over the goal earns bonus points up to a limit, falling short costs less than a miss, and a skipped day costs nothing.
Completion rules
A habit can be due daily, on any X days per week, on any X days per month, or X times within a rolling window of Y days.
WebDAV sync
Devices sync through a WebDAV server such as Nextcloud, Koofr or one you host yourself, so no vendor account or vendor cloud is involved.
Heatmaps and growth charts
A habit's detail page has a check-in heatmap, a bar chart of check-ins and a score graph that can be grouped by day, week, month or year.
Groups, import and export
Habits can be grouped, colored, reordered by dragging and checked in as a batch. Data exports and imports as JSON, and Loop Habit Tracker data can be imported from CSV.
