How we grade them

3.0GPADGT GTDVery good3.2GPAMyLifeOrganizedVery good
Value for money
AIt's free on Google Play and the listing shows no in-app purchases. The developer's site asks for donations, and they're optional. You can't do better than free.
BPro on iPhone is a $29.99 in-app purchase, and cloud sync is $19.95 for 12 months. Fair enough, each of them. But the Windows app is sold separately and its price isn't on record here, so the full bill is hard to add up.
Free plan and trial
AThe whole Android app is free, and so is the separate Toodledo sync plugin. There's no paid tier to be nudged towards and no trial clock running.
BThe phone apps keep a lot free: unlimited nested tasks, next actions, contexts, reminders and templates. But repeating tasks, custom views and the calendar lock when the 21-day Pro trial ends. The Windows app has a 45-day trial.
Features
BUnlimited nesting, complex repeats, nagging alarms, bulk edit and a task made for you after a missed call. That's a lot. But its Play listing says it's not a full implementation, and the Toodledo plugin is marked beta with a warning that data loss might happen.
ATasks nest with no depth limit, and the app builds your next-actions list from the priority of each task and its parents. Pro adds dependencies, projects that run in order, custom views, a calendar and a Nearby view that knows where you are.
Ease of use
BThere's no App Store rating to go on, as it isn't on iPhone. You install it and add tasks by typing or voice. Syncing takes more work: Toodledo needs a separate plugin, and the Dropbox route points to an add-on whose store page we couldn't find.
BWe have no App Store rating on record, so a B is as high as we go. Templates for GTD, FranklinCovey and Do-It-Tomorrow give you a starting point. You'll want one, because we'd expect an outline this flexible to take some setting up.
Platforms and integrations
DAndroid only. No iPhone, web or desktop version. It does sync with Toodledo and Dropbox and takes Tasker actions, but the app itself lives on one kind of phone.
BWindows, iPhone and Android, with Apple Reminders and Google Assistant hooked in. But there's no Mac app, and a web version announced in December 2024 still has no release date. The iOS app was last updated in April 2022.

Worth knowing

DGT GTD

  • It is Android only, and its Google Play listing still calls it a work in progress and not a full implementation.
  • Toodledo sync needs a separate plugin that is marked beta and warns that data loss might happen.
  • The developer's site says Dropbox and FTP sync need a DGT GTD Value Pack, but that add-on's Google Play page was not found when checked.
  • The website was last updated in 2019. The developer also publishes DGT SODA, which it describes as the evolution of DGT GTD.

MyLifeOrganized

  • The Windows app is sold separately in Standard and PRO editions after a 45-day trial; its license prices are not shown in the store listings or included here.
  • Recurring tasks, custom views, the calendar view, dependencies and project tracking are Pro features that lock when the 21-day trial ends.
  • Cloud sync is a separate subscription, from $4.95 for 30 days to $29.95 for 24 months, with tax or VAT added in some countries.
  • The vendor lists apps for Windows, Android and iOS only. The iOS app was last updated in April 2022, and a web version announced in December 2024 has no release date.

Key features

DGT GTD

Folders, contexts and tags
Tasks are organized by folder, context, location, tag, star and status, and lists can be filtered by status, context and tag.
Unlimited hierarchy
Tasks, checklists, folders and goals can be nested to any number of levels, and a bulk edit mode changes several items at once.
Repeats and nagging alarms
Recurring items support complex repeating patterns, and nagging and insistent alarms keep sounding for a reminder that has not been dealt with.
Sync and backup
The app syncs with Toodledo, on free or paid Toodledo accounts, through a separate plugin, keeps devices in sync through Dropbox or FTP, and backs up to Dropbox.
Quick capture
Tasks can be added quickly by typing or voice recognition, and the app can create a task automatically after a missed call.
Automation and widgets
Llama and Tasker actions can drive the app, it has a scrollable, resizable widget, and a plugin feeds Pure Calendar and Agenda Widget.

MyLifeOrganized

Unlimited task hierarchy
Tasks nest into subtasks without a depth limit, so a project can be broken down until each action is a manageable size. Zoom narrows the view to one branch.
Automatic next-actions list
The app generates a list of only the actions that need attention now, sorted using the priority of each task and of its parents.
Contexts and Nearby view
Actions can be filtered by context. The Pro Nearby view lists actions for your current GPS location, with reminders when you reach or leave a place.
Dependencies and ordered projects
Pro handles sequential and parallel projects, holding back tasks that cannot start until other tasks are finished, and can require tasks to be completed in order.
Custom views, calendar and workspaces
Pro adds custom views with filtering, sorting and grouping, a calendar view of daily workload, project tracking and workspace tabs for switching between views.
Cloud, Wi-Fi or offline
The paid MLO Cloud service syncs mobile devices with the Windows desktop app and lets several people share a task list. Sync over your own Wi-Fi and offline use are also possible.
