Value for money
AIt's free on Google Play and the listing shows no in-app purchases. The developer's site asks for donations, and they're optional. You can't do better than free.
APro is $36 a year, which is $3 a month and under what most paid to-do apps start at, for a full GTD app on five platforms. Monthly is $5. Do be sure first: there's no trial of Pro, no refunds, and nothing back if you cancel mid-period.
Free plan and trial
AThe whole Android app is free, and so is the separate Toodledo sync plugin. There's no paid tier to be nudged towards and no trial clock running.
BThe Basic account never expires: unlimited to-dos, sync across devices and capture by email. But it's capped at 5 projects, 3 reference lists and 2 areas, and repeating to-dos need Pro.
Features
BUnlimited nesting, complex repeats, nagging alarms, bulk edit and a task made for you after a missed call. That's a lot. But its Play listing says it's not a full implementation, and the Toodledo plugin is marked beta with a warning that data loss might happen.
AAll the GTD lists, plus a Focus list for what you star. Filter by tags, energy and time required to see what's doable right now. Scheduled to-dos stay hidden until their start date, and an MCP server lets Claude or ChatGPT read and create tasks.
Ease of use
BThere's no App Store rating to go on, as it isn't on iPhone. You install it and add tasks by typing or voice. Syncing takes more work: Toodledo needs a separate plugin, and the Dropbox route points to an add-on whose store page we couldn't find.
BWe have no App Store rating on record, so a B is as high as we go. The lists are set up for you, so there's no system to build first. You do need to know, or learn, how GTD works.
Platforms and integrations
DAndroid only. No iPhone, web or desktop version. It does sync with Toodledo and Dropbox and takes Tasker actions, but the app itself lives on one kind of phone.
AWeb, Mac, Windows, iPhone, iPad and Android, with sync on the free account too. An MCP server connects it to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and VS Code. No Linux app is listed, and the AI assistant has no calendar integration.

  • Toodledo account holders who want an Android client
  • People who want insistent, repeating alarms on their tasks

Worth knowing

DGT GTD

  • It is Android only, and its Google Play listing still calls it a work in progress and not a full implementation.
  • Toodledo sync needs a separate plugin that is marked beta and warns that data loss might happen.
  • The developer's site says Dropbox and FTP sync need a DGT GTD Value Pack, but that add-on's Google Play page was not found when checked.
  • The website was last updated in 2019. The developer also publishes DGT SODA, which it describes as the evolution of DGT GTD.

Nirvana

  • Basic accounts are capped at 5 projects, 3 reference lists and 2 areas, and recurring to-dos need Pro.
  • Pro has no free trial, and the vendor gives no refunds and does not prorate a cancelled billing period.
  • The AI assistant is a beta for Pro early-access members on the web and desktop apps, and it has no calendar integration.
  • No Linux app is listed. The apps page names Mac, Windows, iPhone, iPad, Android and the web browser.

Key features

DGT GTD

Folders, contexts and tags
Tasks are organized by folder, context, location, tag, star and status, and lists can be filtered by status, context and tag.
Unlimited hierarchy
Tasks, checklists, folders and goals can be nested to any number of levels, and a bulk edit mode changes several items at once.
Repeats and nagging alarms
Recurring items support complex repeating patterns, and nagging and insistent alarms keep sounding for a reminder that has not been dealt with.
Sync and backup
The app syncs with Toodledo, on free or paid Toodledo accounts, through a separate plugin, keeps devices in sync through Dropbox or FTP, and backs up to Dropbox.
Quick capture
Tasks can be added quickly by typing or voice recognition, and the app can create a task automatically after a missed call.
Automation and widgets
Llama and Tasker actions can drive the app, it has a scrollable, resizable widget, and a plugin feeds Pure Calendar and Agenda Widget.

Nirvana

Built-in GTD lists
To-dos move between Inbox, Next, Waiting, Scheduled and Someday lists, and a Focus list collects the ones you star for attention now.
Projects, areas and reference lists
Projects group related to-dos, areas of focus separate parts of your life, and reference lists hold material that is not actionable. Basic accounts cap all three.
Tags, contexts and filters
Filter to-dos by tags, areas, contacts, energy and time required to see what is practical for where you are and how much time you have.
Capture and Focus by email
Forwarding an email to your Nirvana address turns it into a to-do, and the Focus list can be emailed to you on chosen days of the week.
Scheduled and recurring to-dos
Scheduled to-dos stay out of the actionable lists until their start date, and due dates can be set on to-dos and projects. Recurring to-dos need Pro.
AI assistant and MCP server
A built-in assistant, in beta for Pro early-access members, runs guided reviews. An MCP server lets clients such as Claude and ChatGPT read and create tasks; updating them needs Pro.
