Who each one suits

Do!

  • People who want a to-do list that looks and sounds like pen and paper
  • Simple daily lists such as groceries, errands and routines
  • Users who would rather pay once than subscribe to remove ads

Listberry

  • People moving from a paper planner to a phone
  • Day-by-day to-do lists kept beside appointments
  • Users who want no account and entries kept on the device

Worth knowing

Do!

  • The free app shows ads, and removing them is a one-time purchase listed at $20.00 on the US App Store.
  • There are apps for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Android only; the vendor lists no web or desktop version.
  • Sync means signing in with the same account in the same app on each device, and the vendor sells several separate editions.
  • Backups are made through Dropbox or email; the listings mention no automatic cloud backup.

Listberry

  • The free version stops at 12 tasks per day and 3 PDF exports.
  • Manual reordering, night mode, weekly and monthly goals and automatic carry-over of unfinished tasks are Premium features.
  • Entries stay on the device with no account, and the vendor says no data is kept in the cloud, so lists do not sync between devices.
  • The App Store version is for iPhone only, and the vendor's page links to the App Store and Google Play but to no web or desktop app.

Key features

Do!

Double-tap to check off
A task is typed in as a line and marked done with a double tap, accompanied by sounds modeled on pen and paper.
Themes and fonts
Themes and fonts can be chosen to style the list, much as one would pick a favorite notebook.
Groups, colors and pins
Work, study and shopping can sit in separate groups, with colors to tell tasks apart and pins to keep chosen tasks in sight.
Repeats and reminders
Tasks can repeat daily, weekly, monthly or yearly, and reminders can be added to the ones that must not be missed.
Home screen widgets
Widgets keep the list on the home screen, so it can be checked without opening the app.
Sync, app lock and backups
Signing in with the same account syncs tasks across devices. The app can be locked with a passcode or Face ID, and data backed up through Dropbox or email.

Listberry

A to-do list for each day
Tasks are written against a date on the calendar, with room to plan the days, weeks and months ahead. A setting opens the app in Month view by default.
Crossing tasks off
A finished task is crossed out by hand, as on paper, and remains on the day's list so it can still be read later.
Alerts, events and repeating tasks
Tasks can carry reminders and repeat on a schedule, and the listing says chores are told apart from events and appointments.
Bold, highlights and color grouping
Important tasks can be set in bold or marked with a highlighter color. Premium can group tasks by color in place of manual ordering.
Automatic carry-over
A Premium setting moves tasks that were not crossed off to the next day's list automatically.
PDF export
All entries can be exported as a PDF for safekeeping or printing. The free version allows 3 exports and Premium removes the limit.
